Hi,

We bought our executive apartment in August last year and was looking for a good ID firm to help us with the renovation (Our previous renovation contractor for the old house was rather lousy so we decided to do a bit more shopping this time round). I remembered that few months back, we attended the house warming party of my wifes friend and we both thought that the design and quality was rather good. As such, we contacted her friend and got the contact of her ID. The ID firm was Summit Design Studio and *** was the ID.

We met *** subsequently and could sense that he was very professional and non-imposing. He was also patient and listened to what we had in mind though at that time we were still undecided as we were planning to do a Fengshui audit of the house. When we invited him to be there during the Fengshui audit, he readily agreed though at that point, we had not sign up for his services yet. On the day of the audit, we were quite taken aback as the Fengshui master suggested an overhaul of the existing design (We bought the house because we like the design and had paid a high COV for it) though the house Fengshui was good. Knowing that this will be a massive project (in terms of cost), *** suggested to come up with 2 set of quotation for our consideration; one taking into consideration cost (do the critical ones but not everything the Fengshui master suggested) and the other the total revamp (according to the Fengshui audit).

As we wanted more options, we decided to source for other ID firms. However, after looking at a few others we still prefer *** service. Infact, we waited for more than 2 weeks for a quotation from one ID firm in Balestier (also found on Renotalk). *** reverted quite promptly with the quotation a few days after the audit and I must say that we were quite troublesome as we literally went through the quotation line by line, item by item to try to reduce our cost. Throughout our discussion, *** maintained his patience and try to accommodate our request within his means. At the end, we decided to sign up with Summit Design as we felt more comfortable with him and we were happy with his design and service attitude (and price as well).

We started our renovation in Nov last year and we were happy with our decision to use ***. We could see that he is a very detailed ID with high expectations of his work and would immediately rectify any work found to be unsatisfying. On many occasions when we called him in the night to feedback on the work, he was prompt to response and would see that something is done the next day.

In terms of the design, he also gave many useful ideas from design concept to furnishing. As we wanted to move in before CNY and on the date given by the Fengshui master, we would always pressure him to expedite the project. He would tactfully tell us that he would try his best but would not compromise the quality and standards of the project.

Our renovation was completed in Jan, a week before CNY and we were very happy with the work. We also received good comments from visitors on the design of the house.

Overall, we are happy with *** work and would not hesitate to refer him to our friends. Keep up the Good Job ***!

These are some pictures of our house

I had my reno done up by james Chew, pretty efficient and very accommodative so far. Just started hacking work, looking forwards for the good services to come.

As there are quite a number of designers in SDS, hence its your call of who you engage(ie manager level or other). Pros and cons.

I personally go for the designs(50%) and service(50%), afterall you want to engage someone who will solve your problem and handle a good job with your Reno that why you engage an ID firm. No point engaging an ID and still have to let you take time off from your work, if thats the case might as well you manage the Reno yourself and engage varies contractors.

I got my house done up by James Chew too, almost handover already, and will post some pictures when I am free.

Anyway, I agree hes very accomodating, cuz my wife and I are very picky and often want to make changes. But he did not show even a slight hint of unpleasantness. Also, he is very responsible, and could almost reach him by phone even late at night. Overall, I am quite impressed by his project management skills as he is always able to get someone to do the additional stuff I want for me.

Oh, and my mom loved the workmanship, praising him like crazy.

Cool bro, congrats to your coming completion. Mine just barely started, long way to go.

What I like is when he can provide me with practical stuff for the house without compromising the design

Hi everyone, I also met up with an efficient ID Yesterday...her name is Suparnee. My hubby & I went to SDS office and was served by her. First impression, she was warm and friendly, soft-spoken too...didn't actually give me nor my hubby very deep impression cos she doesn't really share much. Their showroom also nothing much only a kitchen concept near their entrance. After the meeting, the only thing that shocked us was her confidence of giving us the quote the very next day!excl.gif We didn't really took her seriously thought it wasn't really possible haha...cos we went to 8 ID firms, non gave such promises, mostly about a week!!

Surprisingly this afternoon I really got Suparnee's quotation and layout!excl.gif Not bad :good: really efficient!excl.gif and the quotation wasn't far from my budget! Seems very sincere.

Nevertheless, I won't guage so fast la, haven't seen her work and design yet. Too early to say anything. Will meet her this week again and ask for more haha...will share again if got good stuffs!

Hi all,

After reading through the many reviews here at RT, we are excited to share our experiences with you all too!

We are almost at about 70% completion, less the carpentry, electrical work, painting and touchup. Still remembered that we had met William from SDS when it was about Chinese New Year. With even the tight schedule then since everyone rushing for completion, he still managed to set aside sometime to show us a few places to view his workmanship. Can feel then that he is a very confident man of his works. That makes us choose him over others.

Straight after CNY, we started with the quotations and layout planning. Many changes before the quote was finalised as ideas kept flowing and Kudos to him for his kindness and patience everytime we had proposed some changes. Seems like this is a trademark for SDS designers :sport-smiley-003: . During the initial planning, he had also tried to propose cost effective ways and yet do not compromise on designs.

We are also very impressed with the schedule being kept on the dot. William will always update us with his sms once a major step has been taken. That is important to us as we are very busy with our work but we still like to take time to finalise the details by being there personally.

There was one incident that we remembered. We were finalising the details for the false ceiling and all parties agreed upon a certain detail. However, alas halfway through when I came in to check, it was different from discussed and the elec trunking was left outside at the curtain pelmet. Immediately I called William and this was rectified on the very same day! :yamseng:

Like many reno, there are bound to be some rough patches. William will discuss with us on it and proposed some new ideas to counter them. Still pending some problems now but we are positive William will take care of it! We also like the attitude of their guys too, esp Ah Soon, the electric guy who have been very accomodating. His guys also work with brains as they always think what is the best thing to do before action time.

On the whole, we are very happy with the works for SDS and William so far. :good: Will be coming up with our own t-blog soon to share with all the pictures taken at every phase once everything is completed. Will post our final reviews about them then!**Stay Tune**

All the Best on your reno journey!
