Clueless on what's next after key collection.

Recommended Posts

Dear all,

We are clueless and would like to ask some questions here.

Ehh... What's next after collecting the keys?

Do we engage a contractor, ID, or can we engage separate suppliers (eg. Contractor for kitchen (Blum), contractor for flooring, for lightings, for wardrobe, etc...)

Is it more expensive to get them separately and which should come first? Flooring? Electricity? Painting? Others? Which one?

Hope someone can give us some pointers for now.... because we have load of questions to ask actually. Lol.

Thank you in advance.

after collecting the keys, first thing is, check for defects. if there is, ask hdb to rectify.

u can engage either contractor or ID, or even do things at your own. see which one u are more comfortable, and if u have lots of time, can liaise all things yourself.

of cos, engaging contractor or ID will be more costly as compared to doing all things yourself, cos they are providing a service in return for money.

1. Check for defects! Here is a guide.

2. Get the defects rectified, pls refer to the link i have shared.

3. If you are not experienced, and simple look and feel for your place, you can look for a main contractor to settle your renovation works. He will coordinate with other sub-cons.

4. If you have money to spare and want to have a designer look, you can look for IDs, they have 3 d renders done up for you to visualise the design they proposed

5. If I remember correctly, they will do flooring first, then do the electrical and ceiling works, followed by plumbing works painting and carpentry the last.

Thanks for the useful tips, kangaroo168 and diva79. Appreciate it.

Fast forward abit....

May I know how often do we have to check on the renovation progression? Is it everyday? If we are busy, is it more advisable to engage the ID to monitor the progression and quality check the renovation for us?

Tanny, responsible contractor or ID will update u on a daily basis even if u are not free to go down. Ask them to send photos on the progressing works to keep your mind at ease

Hello, does anyone know if we could change the look of the toilets for new BTO flats? I heard that we can't do major changes like hacking for the first 3years?

Does changing the tiles on walls, doors, position of sink, etc permissible?
