Our Home - Scandimarble

Recommended Posts

Hi homeowners-to-be,

Last year, we undertook one of biggest, if not the biggest, project of our lives. Owning a home is so rewarding and every step was full of surprises. During the journey, we remember checking on the renovation progress almost every other day as we were excited how it will turn out to be.

I would like to share my renovation journey with The Local INN.terior.

Like many new home owners, we went through a few meetings with different ID mainly to have a feel of what designs the ID could provide to maximize the space we have and also wanted to have a feel of the working style of the ID. Joanne, from the local INN.terior gave us various ideas with the space we had but also not compromising on the design we wanted. We worked well with her as she was meticulous, patient and listened to what we have in mind.

We wanted a Scandinavian look initially with lots of grey and wood but i also wanted to incorporate marble into the house. So we decided with using different shades of grey, wood and marble to keep the Scandinavian look but adding a bit of modern twist like marble. We knew we wanted our living area to look bigger, to have cosy corners around the home where we can relax, lots of wardrobe and shoe space. So we opted for an open concept kitchen, bar top table with high chairs, see through glass sliding wardrobe so that we are able to see all our clothes, functional shoe wardrobe with open niche.

For the whole house, we used vinyl flooring as it suits the Scandinavian theme very well. We wanted the house to look more spacious so we used the same flooring type and color for our home. We also didn't want so many colors so we just stick to 3-4 colors at the living area.

We really loved how our kitchen turned out. We initially wanted marble table top & backing but due to the cost and limited designs out there for marble look a like, we decided to settle for marble quartz table top which is more sturdy than natural marble, subway tiles backing and dark grey laminated for our cupboard. There were different kinds and grains for marble, we took awhile to finally find the one we liked. Initially, we were afraid that having such a dark color in the kitchen will make the kitchen look darker than it originally is. But is a good thing we had Joanne around to helped us play around with the colors, using the kitchen inspiration we had in mind and also coming up with multiple 3D designs for us to picture how the kitchen will look like.

As we wanted both our bathrooms to have contrasting looks, we chose very different tile colors and design. One marble like tile with black fixtures, the other is a stone like tile with light finishes. We were pretty undecided when it comes to choosing the laminates as there were so many kinds, types, design to choose from so after multiple meet ups with Joanne we finally decided on it along with her help as well as she knew the design we had planned.

Having a walk in wardrobe has always been something we wanted before we started on this renovation journey. We wanted to have a lot of wardrobe space and also to be able to see our clothes at a glance. So we have been going back and forth with the idea of walk in or no walk in wardrobe. Due to family planning reasons, we decided not to go ahead with converting one room for walk in wardrobe. Instead, Joanne proposed we hack the wall, push it back to the the room beside, to create a slightly bigger master bedroom for our wardrobe needs. Also, to incorporate the walk in wardrobe feel where we can see our clothes, Joanne suggested we go for glass sliding doors, as it helps to create that aesthetic feel without letting in dirt and dust to our clothes. We also have a small area for TV and also momentos from overseas as we love to travel.

Overall, our renovation journey with The Local INN.terior has been pretty smooth though there were a few hiccups along the way, Joanne was there to rectify and resolve the situation as quickly as she can. I am pleased with how our home turned out, I can finally have a place to call home.
