Great renovation project with Alan Design contractor

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

We just completed a great renovation project with Alan Design (aka Aian Furniture 9889 2008) so would like to share that experience with everyone who's looking for a reliable contractor. Bought a resale HDB @ The Peak Toa Payoh in March and the place desperately need a complete revamp. Basically, we need to hack everything down and turn it into our interpretation of a sleek modern minimalist home

Like everyone else, we started by approaching many IDs and did plenty researches on Renotalk. Basically we need to hack off all the existing build-in furnitures and false ceiling to create the space, knock down a wall for an open kitchen concept, redo floorings including marbles in the living for a contemporary look, and make balcony an extension of living where for an alfresco dining experience. Our aim is to create a "simple and clean" space where we can gradually add items like furnitures and soft furnishing to make a home. After all we are looking for that "condo" feel :P

We liked the idea of having an ID but the quotation was simply too high to achieve what we wanted. We actually know what we wanted (found many beautiful ideas on Pinterest) and just wanted someone reliable to execute the plan. Then we found Alan Design on Renotalk with good feedback so decided to meet him. After reviewing his quote (we actually went to a supplier directly to check prices and found that Alan's price was much lower due to his network in the industry) and visiting his other project site to look at his workmanship, we believed he's our man!

The coming months were a great partnership with Alan. He's reliable because he delivered as planned (some work was always happening on everyday) and we got the quality we asked for. More importantly he was very accommodating to our requests from time to time as we changed our mind (e.g. adding light points, changing color etc). We worked very closely with Alan and his (friendly) workers on site on detailed layout (e.g. alignment of tiles) and address challenges as they arise (e.g. how to hide all the aircond pipings). Would having a designer better in managing the details? We don't think so as designer would either keep calling us anyway or made decision that we may not like. Afterall it is our home so we wanted to participate as much as we could :yeah:

Here's the floor plan and final results!
