Recently, purchased a very old 3 room resale flat, almost 45 years old.

The kitchen had to be totally redone. The floor tiles were pink mosaic and there was a big

yellow old-fashioned cabinet that had to be removed. The stainless steel sink top had to go too, as it had seen better days.

Going to the flat was like a blast from the past. Because of my fixed budget of about 30k to do the renovation of both the kitchen and toilet,

we did not go with any designer but decided on a contractor instead. Welcome to view the before photos of original flat below.

First preview of the kitchen. Blast from the past!! Notice the odd pipe on the left side of the kitchen wall which will make carpentry work a challenge!! The right side of the kitchen is the big 4ft yellow cabinet that had seen better days!! Lastly, towards the window area is the stainless steel sink structure.

Toilet Renovation Plans

Firstly, as we are working directly with the contractor, we had to tell him exactly what we wanted done.

For the two separate toilet and shower areas, we decided to combine it into one area with entrance from the dry area and then the inner shower area. We had to have HDB approval before we hacked the wall between the toilet and shower area. We only hacked enough to make an entry way to the shower area, not the whole wall. By sealing up the door to the shower, we were able to have more wall space in the kitchen area outside.

Secondly, we were able to have a larger vanity area outside since the entrance was sealed up.
