Ideas for 4room Resale Reno

Recommended Posts

hi all, am looking to move into this 4room resale. however the master bedroom seems way too small to fit king bed, side tables and some bigger wardrobe. thought of hacking to combine bed room 2 but then my kids would not have sufficient rooms (3 kids btw). kitchen is kinda big as we dont really cook much, but the master bedroom/kitchen wall has those structural beams on top so even after hacking, cant really place the bed there (beam will cut thru the bed) any ideas how to modify this to ensure sufficient rooms and sunlight in the house? and also we definitely need a storeroom to store the whats not. any help would be appreciated.

You could consider using some of the space from your kitchen/dining area for your MBR's wardrobe. Or move the store room into the kitchen/dining area and then the MBR use some of the space from Bedroom 3 for its wardrobe or bed placement (in this case will require shifting of both rooms' doors).

Another idea is to shrink the size of the kitchen/dining area to either move one bedroom or the living area there (and then the living room area becomes another bedroom). But this will result in a newly created space that doesn't get much air circulation because no windows there, even though MBR becomes much bigger through absorption of Bedroom 3.

Last idea from me is redesignate MBR through either

1. Redesignate Bedroom 3 as MBR. Move the Store room into the kitchen/dining area. Absorb some of the space from existing Main Bedroom into Bedroom 3 to connect it to Bathroom 1 so that the new MBR continues to have an ensuite.

2. Redesignate Bedroom 2 as MBR. Expand its capacity by using more of that space between Bedroom 2 and Kitching/Dining Area (and even some of the latter), for a much larger wardrobe. Connect Bedroom 3 to Bathroom 1. Bathroom 1 hence becomes redesignated as Common Bathroom for use by your children who will be in the previous Main Bedroom and Bedroom 3. The new MBR will have no more ensuite bathroom with this new layout however.

a king size bed would only need a max 2m by 2m space. you can tuck your bed in the space between the corridor wall and toilet wall (which is 3.1m wide). so after deducting the 2m (actual width of kind size bed is 1.82m), you would still be left with 55cm on each side of the bed which would be sufficient for a small bedside table.

your wardrobe for the master can be on the wall between the master bedroom and bedroom 3. the master bedroom width should be about 3.45m wide (after accounting for wall thickness). so after catering for the bed length of 2m and wardrobe depth of 60cm, you would still have a walkway of about 85cm which would be quite ok to walk through.

these older HDB flats are designed quite spaciously so there's actually no need to do any major hacking. if you want bedroom 3 to be bigger, then hack away the store room and build a new one in the kitchen instead
