Is this the right mattress for you?

Recommended Posts

*Results may vary according to different person and I am speaking according to my real-life experience. It does not apply to everyone that slept on the same mattress/brand.
In January 2020, we were recommended by the sales at a prestigious mattress store to purchase the so-called premium Suite series bed. This brand is marketed as Singapore best mattress with revolutionary technology that provides orthopedically correct support. On top of it, it comes with 10-year warranty.

We were given opportunity to test on various models where we get to lay on them. We tested 3 mattress of different range, and we were convinced by the sales that the premium collection which is  popular amongst those who have stayed in five- or six-star hotels is the best choice. As they are they are the subject matter expert when comes to mattress, we took the advice the went ahead to purchase it.

After sleeping on it for less than a month, both my husband and I start to wake up feeling back ache. At that point, we convinced ourselves that it could be our body adjusting to the new mattress or could be our sleeping posture maybe be incorrect. The onset of our pain went higher starting March 2020. The back pain recurred almost everyday and even after message and physiotherapist exercises and stretches, it did not improve.
This is when we seek professional advice and went to consult a specialist on 19th Feb 2021 as I no longer could walk or sit properly without feeling painful.  As a result, from the diagnostic from my specialist, my tenderness over my paravertebral spin was severe and needed u/s guided paravertebral myofascial injection to provide pain relief. The entire procedure cost me approximately $12,000. Add salt to the wound, I do not have any insurance rider which resulted I have to pay them in cash.

I then request a letter from my specialist to report this event with the company. We all know that it is very rare any doctor would write a letter with content stating the injuries may have somewhat related to the mattress. The first response I received was that the comfort of the mattress does not covers under the warranty. And importantly, we choose the mattress ourselves. We were then offered to have their technician down at our place to check the mattress and the findings was that there was some noise however that noise produced by the mattress will not cause my spine to be in that condition. I continue to pursue further with the company and the 2nd option given to us was to head down to their flag ship store to try other models and they will discuss further within their management once we shared our choice of model. Despite what happened, we want to believe that the company is customer focus and care for their customer, we proceed to their flagship store and managed to short-list the firmest mattress. We shared our shortlisted model to their management, and we were told that we must top up another $1,200 for that model and it takes between 4-6 weeks for the mattress to be delivered. If we are not willing to top up, they are willing to refund the mattress amount as per invoice.  Of course we choose for refund so to use that money for a better mattress from a better company.

Some may say I should be grateful that the company is willing to refund me the amount I paid for the mattress. But the willingness to refund me the amount I paid for the mattress does not return my back and spine back to the condition.

I hope my experience allows you to understand that by testing on the mattress for a short period of time proves nothing that the mattress won't cause you unforeseen medical condition. I also hope that by sharing my experience, it can create a better consumer awareness that when choosing mattress, do loads of research and don't just depend on what the sales expertise recommendation or flowery marketing content. Mattress used by hotels may provide comfort for a short period of time, but long time usage may not be suitable for everyone. Importantly, buy from a company that really cares for their customer, not just some company that are willing to splurge on marketing collateral or sponsorship. Also, 10 years warranty means nothing at all. 🙂
Again, I want to elaborate that results varies from individuals, maybe others will have great sleep and perfect spine using that brand, but definitely not for my case.

The medical letter quoted " On March 2020, I have been seeing a specialist for my lower back pain recurred almost daily even after massages and physiotherapist exercises and stretches. My tenderness over bilateral paravertebral muscle recurred and become chronic. My tenderness over my paravertebral spine was severe and needed u/s guided paravertebral myofascial injection to provide pain relief. Her pain improved after injection procedure but noticed that my secret lab chair is not providing good support for my back. Please kindly assist with above matter "
