  1. we need to be careful here about using energy saving bulbs.

most of us like to do false ceiling and install 10-15 such bulbs.

and we have the habit of switching many bulbs at the same time

imagine one bulb is 10W-15W. if u switch on just 6 bulbs. that's how many watts already? 60W-90W total.

so isn't it higher than using a normal 60W flourecent lamp?

so what energy saving are we talking abt?

in order to really SAVE energy we need to use lesser wattage each time.

it is only energy saving if we use just one 10-15W bulb each time. But in the hall, do you think u will use just 1 bulb?

so, let's not get caught in the wrong concept.

Well totally agreed with you. Actually find downlight (especially small square type) the most in efficient bcos the light beam angle very narrow which means we will have to put more to cover the whole room. Tats y i choose to have cove lights with very minimum downlight (for asthetic purpose) for my living rooms. :)

  2. Finally after weeks (only 2 weeks lah) of discussion with Max, tomorrow starting work liao. But due to my area having electrical maintence by HDB Main-Con, my work got to delay 2 days...

Also saw my 1st 3D liao but dun like that color scheme so Max said he will change the whole proposed design ,so paiseh... anyway Max's good cos till now we change so many things but he never complaint... :)

  3. Hi. Anyone got such experience. If they have already done the tiles for the bathroom and we dun like the effect, r they still willing to change at no charge? We dun mind the tiles but we dun like how the colors were laid. There were no 3D pics so we cldnt visualise but nw when we look at the final effect, dun quite like it. How??

U mean I-Deal got no 3D for you to view 1st b4 ur work started?

  4. has anyone seen or heard of EcoBulb in Singapore? Or are they not suitable for local use? Its average service life is 10,000 hours & its Power Factor is 0.93.

Most fluorescent lamp without integrated control gear can last 10K-12K hours.

As for most reliable brand's energy saving lamp, it can last 8k hours.

If you on the lamps 7hours daily (6pm-1am), a 8k hours lamp should last you around 3 years. And how much will a energy saving lamp cost you? Less than $10 which means each year only cost $3.33 or $0.009 per day..... :)

But for LCD TV, we buy a few thousands but never ask or concern so much... tats us lah.... cos i also same same... ha ha ha :)

  5. Hey henry and all,

mind sharing where u bot all the energy saving lights? or any light shops will have rite.. haven went to any 1 yet.. soon... any pointers?

    TIA :)

If u just wanna buy lamps, most DIY, NTUC, Carrefour etc sells reliable brands like Osram & Philips. But if u r talking about complete fittings for your new home, then u really got to walk around to do ur own homework.

Most lighting shops are located in Jalan Besar, Balestier, Geylang etc. Most of them carry Philips & Osram as long as you ask for it.

  6. Hi jtek,

Actually what i meant was that though the light bulb is said to be the same as like for e.g. a 16W = 60W conventional light bulb, but the brightness of the light bulb is somehow different in the sense for e.g. for warm lights, the 60W conventional light is more "warm" than the 16W. This is what my wife and I felt when we saw other family using the conventional lights. Well as for the brand, just for your infor, I am using Osram Aust light bulbs, so there should not be any issue regarding the made of the light bulbs.

Really, I don't really know how to discribe it, you should go see for yourself to know what i meant.

But since nowadays the elec. tariff is so high, I really strongly suggest getting the energy light bulbs.

Anyway. this is the effect of the energy saving lights.

    Hope this information helps.

    Cheers

WOW Bro, ur home very nice leh. Nice lighting too, bright and warm.

As for the brightness visually, its very personal. So no right or wrong unless we are talking about the actual measurement of brightness in lux level, ha ha ha.

But i sure agreed that we must all switch to energy saving lamp to save pocket & save the earth... :)

:good::good::good: well said. looks SAME but doesnt function the SAME :sport-smiley-004:

Just stating facts cos a lot of products in Spore have imitated MIC (Made in Chxxx) ones liao. If we consumer do not start asking for real product, the $$$ hungry business man will keep bringing in fake or lower grade but same outlook products to sell us at attractive price.

  7. Well I think you should have seen that most shopping centers are all using energy saving bulbs. So you should know about the brightness of the bulbs.

And yes indeed they are very energy saving, but one word of caution is that the light produced will not be as bright as the conventional ones.

    Cheers

Hi bro, wat type of conventional lights r u referring to? If it is Incandescent Lamps that ur conventional is referring to, then you might be wrong.

Cos those so call energy saving lamps in the market (Philips or Osram) are measured as energy saving because they are as bright as 8 pieces of Incandescent Lamps by at a much smaller wattage. That is why its called a Energy Saving Lamps.

So using energy saving lamps (Reputable ones) will really saves energy bcos they did a lot of R&D to ensure the products saves energy then they print on the packing boxes. Those house brand ones may differ as most shops gets China Factory to OEM for them a similiar outlook lamps as Philips or Osram but less their technology.

  8. BTW, anyone heard of Mitsuibishi Heavy Industries Air con? went to IMM and the sales guy recommend this... saying that it is more energy saving than Mitsuibishi Starmex.. but i never heard of that lehz.. and not sure if thats true... hmmmm.... think doing up a house takes a lot of effort in researching on the nitty gritty stuff ... siong man.. hehahhah... :bangwall:

Heard that Mitsuibishi Heavy Industries Air-con not really good. Seems like many complaint of noisy.

  9. Does Max and Steven and the new guy still work as a team ? Or do they both now work independantly?

Heard from Max that he's partnering Steven.... "New Guy"??? Never heard leh... what name?

Thats very near my place :P Think max has a few job in that area now. Do start a t-blog to show us your progress!

He told us he's doing a few there too...

T-Blog??? I;m very new here... care to teach me how to start one, what to put up etc???

  10. nope, it doesnt work this way

when a ballast says 13 watts - what it means is - it is able to supply UP TO 13 watts not fixed 13 watts.

there is no such thing as overpowered.

Underpowered exist when you use a lower wattage ballast to power a higher wattage bulb.

    _____________________________________________________

it's much more convenient to just get a downlight without ballast - so you can just screw in/out those energy saving bulbs.

design/plan your house to look like house, unless you are some billionaire who has a 24x7 techician to change ballast/bulbs for you.

    _____________________________________________________

For magnetic ballasts - my take is - dont bother about brands. most would last at least 10 yrs or more except for those cheapo dunno made in where ballasts.

For electronic ballasts - you better stick to osram or philips. I have yet to try ATCO.

Oic, maybe i'm wrong about it. But do agree that screw type energy saving lamps are much user friendly to home user.

As for the magnetic ballast brand, i think its better to choose good and known brands like ATCO, Philips etc. Reason is because of safety for homes. Those in-house brand or Malaysian made are made from those $$$ eyed factory who only think about making $$$. ATCO & Philips are big MNC which reputation are at stake so must comply to international standard.

Look at ATCO & Philips from the following link, they are not just a local lighting shop or backyard factory making ballast. Both of them are over 50 years history in making the best lighting parts for the world.

Well thats all i felt about it when it comes to electrical items, SAFETY. But doesn't mean I'm right. :)

  12. Sounds like you kena ripoff? You had better feedback to your ID, as brightness may differ quite a bit, and may affect your overall lighting (too dim?). Not sure if there is much diff in brightness between 10W and 13W though. If it is between a Philips or Osram 10W and 13W, maybe some diff in light intensity, but if it is between Philips or Osram 13W and some other brand 10W (e.g. Sakura), I dunno. Never heard of Sakura anyway (post a pic?). Most reliable shops are using Philips or Osram (but other known brands do exist). Finally, if your plc is meant for a 13W, not sure if it affects a 10W plc light's lifespan. Experts can advise on this...personally I would demand on 13W lights and Philips or Osram.

Lumen Output (Brightness) between PLC 10W & 13W:

    PLC 10W = 600 Lumen

    PLC 13W = 900 Lumen

    PLC 18W = 1200 Lumen

    PLC 26W = 1800 Lumen

*Figure base on major brands like Osram & Philips etc. For Sakura, no details as its not the common brands in this class.

For lifespan, if you use a 13W ballast to run a 10W lamp, of cos the lamp will still work but the 10W lamp will fail earlier as its been over powered. Under powered like using 10W ballast to work on 13W will either lamp not working or fail early too.

    Hope its helpful.
