  1. gaku, my rectification also not yet complete lor, imagine tat! reno finish for more than 2 mths liao. yesterday uncle fly my aeroplane again, waited 1 whole day at hm, didnt even dare to go buy food, in the end still din turn up. i calle him 6times from 12 to 6pm. he say he is at ur hse later come up to mine. when i called again he say he went to redhill liao. i am getting pissed off! will post the pics of my flooring tat needs rectification in my blog. paisey, jus grumbling here......

Sorry to hear that uncle fly your aeroplane.

ashes02, trust me he is not at my house. I have not seen him since 13th June. Don't know why he keep saying he is at my place when he isn't. Even if he is, he cannot enter the house as he already took back the number lock long ago. Don't tell me he got spare keys to my house!! :jawdrop:

After 2 months still have not complete rectification? That is quite bad. Maybe you can ask Joseph to help (think he is not a pilot yet!)

  2. Oh no, u mean after my 'hacking' problems, I will have problems with scratchings etc

    My nightmare just started.....................

When you have more rectification, you will see more problems like dirty wall, scratch etc. So if you can, be around during the rectification. For me, I personally see the workers drag the metal toolbox with a string on my tiles and really heartpain.

Just to give you an example, the expense of second rectification after partial shift in cost me 2 floor mats, 2 shower towels, some scratches to the tv console and vanity top. Damaged toilet bowl don't count because I made them pay for it.

So I will try to accept those little problem and reduce rectification.

  3. yup, understand. that is why every of my weekend is burned doing all the rectifications and it seems to be dragging on forever. i refuse to waste further leave and the best thing is to get them to come in on sat so i can see them and supervise the works overall.

fyi, i also patch up my own grout!! hahaha im so DIY now. :]

even if laminates, u still got to trim it or else same problems will surface. if u want them to do it at the factory, i think its gonna be tough. that means they have to dismantle, bring back to factory, do it and come up again to fix it for u right?

i did not check on my tiles actually. did not knock all 1 by 1 to check for hollow tiles, so far all are solid. and i have had experience of scratching. my poor sink is very very scratched. initially partly scratched by the workers then after using, more scratches. i expected franke to be better and have less scratches. tsk. [bD if u are reading, any news from desmond about the inox cream for franke sink? :notti:]

and its too much that they use the towels!! i know they freshen up before leaving for the day but towels? sounds scary.. *looks at my towels*

cheer up gaku, i hope your rectifications goes well. since so much money have been poured into rental etc, can u stress uncle a little to get them to change the scratched stuff for u be it to replace or to bring to factory to redo? it is only right that we get what we paid for.

I hope your reno will complete soon and you don't have to waste anymore of your weekends. Weekend should be spent resting and enjoying quality time with your family instead of facing the workers, right.

I want to learn how to fill up the grouting as well. But mine is coloured grout, so should will ask the workers for advise how to do it and where to buy them.

On the laminates, I will ask them to bring it back to the factory to rectify and bring back when it is done. Will be meeting the carpenter boss this evening.

Talked about sink, mine also got scratches and they look like a second hand sink.

The worker didn't use my towel to freshen up. They use it for tiling work because I found my white colour towel became brown and full of cement and dirt. Went to check another towel in the common bath room and same fate. But actually it will be more scary if they use it to freshen up without you knowing... :jawdrop:

For the scratches, actually the carpenter boss ask me to talk to him direct. I will see how it goes this evening.

I am feeling much better these days. Thanks. So you also don't be too angry or upset ok cos it is bad for your health.

  4. huh...I'm so sad to hear that :(

I called him yesterday and told him my rectifications needs to be done in the morning this saturday. He will get the guys to call me.

    Think i was not clear...the scratches u have...if i were u, i can't accept. mine still ok.

I will see if this saturday the guys come and settle my stuff...

No need sad lah. Next time just take it with a pinch of salt.

I will take your advise to see if the laminate with scratches can be changed.

I was suppose to meet the carpenter boss on Monday after work to discuss. But he could not make it at the stipulated time, so postponed. Hopefully can meet him this evening.

You might want to ask for the "guys" number and call them instead. Most proactive. Sekali they learnt fast and become pilots, you can still call them up to direct them to your place.

  5. If the carpenter who is an expert does not know what stuff he is suppose to use, then I really doubt their capability and expertise.

For the edges, I also told them cuttings are not even and they merely use the paint pen. Aubrey you must be an expert already after spending the sat patching the door frame. So now I know who to ask for help to patch my cabinets. :D Just kidding.

You are right about the trimmed edges. Laminate is the easy way out. I will talk to the carpenter boss to see if they can do it in the factory. I have 3 carpenters doing my carpentry. I only know the good one and his name is Ah Meng who did my MBR wardrobe. The other two I do not know their names. Usually I only talk to the carpenter boss.

If the hollow tiles are few, I will just close one eyes. But for my case, it is about 30-40%hollow. So no choice got to rectify.

I am really tired of cleaning the house again after few rounds of rectification to the tiles. They also created more problems like damaging the toilet bowl, scratching the carpentry, solid surface and the flooring and using also using my stuff w/o permission.

Remember I mentioned about them using my shower towels, floor mat, vacuum cleaning. I also do not like them to search my store room. Unfortunately at that time, I could not lock it because the floor in the storeroom also need to rectify. I told uncle how the worker can open up my present and use them (vacuum cleaner was a gift from my brother for the new flat). So now after I have shift in, I am really hesistant to let them rectify unless I am around to oversee.

Actually moving new house should be a happy event. I have given up arguing about the reno esp on money matter. As you might be aware, I have spent unneccesary money on shifting and rental due to delay in HO. So in short, we have to bear part of the responsibility for choosing our own contractor, whether it is good or bad.

  6. that will be a long wait loh.. probably a few weeks time.. uncle forget to shift my gas meter, gas man coming today only and ah wei says to run the pipe nicely, he may have to dismantle some part of the kitchen cabinets that are already up. I worry uncle cannot HO in time so I shifted my move in date to 10th july. So that we will have enough time to do rectification works if any.

If you are not in a hurry to shift, then should not be a problem. Unlike me, got to shift many times and the endless problems and rectification cause me to fall sick.

From the lesson learnt, please give some buffer to the committed HO date(s). If you have noticed from my t-blog, the committed dates have been moved several times.

I think some parts of the carpentry that is blocking the gas pipe got to be taken out first. I thought the layout of the pipes have to be communicated with the carpenter first.

  7. I thought so too, but a some forummers thought high is good, cos then will have rain effect. My hubby tried adjusting it but cannot. Maybe i will ask the plumber about it the next time he comes. I will leave it first, try to take a first shower, if I dun like the feel of it then will adjust. If bathe liao shiok shiok then I will leave it.

Ivy, quite true, higher it is more potential energy. Will feel more pressure. Do let us know how you feel after trying the shower.

  8. *hugs* really can't help u much gaku...can only hope everything will be over for u soon...really feels bad to hear both u and aubrey faces problems...

Don't worry about me, I am feeling much better these days after not having to talk to the contractors that often. I am actually happy that the reno is coming to an end. Now I will be busy again planning my mini herb garden.

  9. aiyo...last week they tried to do rectifications for me, uncle mentioned some workers were at your place.

seriously...the scratches and all i can't accept leh. like urs, my rectifications for some stuff still not done :( hollow tiles must change leh...

Tell you lah, uncle smoked you a few times already.

Uncle called me up in the morning and told me will come to rectifiy. I told him I will only be in after noon. I didn't want to call him and see if he will call. If he call early, can rectify. If late, then cannot rectify cos I got visitors. In the end, no news from him. But I did called him yesterday to arrange for the Sat after next cos this weekend going north.

The previous saturday on the 13th morning also told you he is at my place right but actually he is in woodlands.

If scratches cannot accept, then think you might have alot of rectifications. If you can, do be around during rectification, if not they will suka suka knock here and there and create more problems.

  10. chenge it gaku. these will continue to bug u! I also found a spot in my MBR wardrobe door, think the workers accidentally scraped off the white paint on the glass and I am gonna call ah wei to get it changed.

MBR cabinet should be ok to change. But console will be difficult. I will talk to the carpenter boss to hear if it can be changed. Think Ah Wei can change things easily cos he is in uncle's good book. My carpenter is otherwise.

  11. hmm..actually can just change the lamination and solve the problem right?

From my understanding with the carpenter, it's actually not very simple. For shoe rack, due the trimmed edges. I was told they will use another laminate to paste on top of it. For tv console, to change the laminate, need to dismantle some of the wall features. Then again, it might cause damaged to other laminate on the features. Another easier way will be to cut out the damaged laminate and glue a new one. Then you will see a separation between two laminates.

Still in a dilema to change to not to change.

  12. Gaku, how have u been? long time no update le you.

    Hi,

Sorry about that, has been missing in action for a while. Quite busy lately, due to father's day and also doing unpacking and cleaning, cleaning and more cleaning.

All appliances are in place and bed also in. The sofa and dinning will be in probably next week.

However rectification still not completed yet. Still found the many hollow tiles and some are really hollow in the center. I suspect the tiles have not been changed.

I didn't arrange uncle to rectification the tiling and fill the grouting last weekend because I have visitors on Saturday.

For carpentry, rectification done last weekend but the condition became worst. For my shoe rack doors, there were many scratches and the carpenter merely use a white marker to touch up. I am not happy with the carpentry because paid so much and get lousy quality. There are also white spots in the MBR cabinet and upon asking the carpenter to clean it, he realised that it is caused by acid wash and cannot be cleaned. So he has to talk to his boss to see if can changed.

I also checked with the carpenter about my tv console which is slightly dented and has lots of scratches and was told they cannot do anything about it. It will be too difficult and big job to replace and also the scratches are not caused by them.

For electrical, seems to have some problem with my tv reception. When the installer try to adjust some channel like Channel 8, the picture quality is not very good but other channels are ok. The installer suspect that there might be some problem with the electrician joining the scv cables. Coincidentally the installer mentioned that he has just went to install another unit in the same block without problem.

I forgot about curtain and now looking for someone to make the curtain rail. Budget constraint and thinking of getting the curtain from North.

  13. fed up now so need to rant. carpenter is unable to give me the glass for my table top so i cant pack my things again. very fed up. keep delaying and delaying and only told me a while back. planned to go home early today to settle it once and for all but not needed anymore. so much for allocating time for that from work.

n when i tell my mom she is gonna nag in general about them, which i hate to hear. nag them not me!!!!

3rdly, my table top was scratched while they were cutting an O shape for the wires. they patched it with silicon and now that the silicon has dried, it looks like yellowy white from the white table top. i told ah liew, he just said he will "chup" for me. still can tell me cannot be seen when glass is placed on it. if he is gonna give me all these excuse about CLEAR GLASS COVERING and i cannot see from my sitting angle, i am seriously gonna chew some heads off! I am getting this first hand, not some second hand furniture. either gimme the whole thing nicely or i rather not have it at all.

some basic standards in workmanship ought to be there. sad to see people with no pride in their work.

Aubrey, just to share my experience. When you have more "chup", you will definitely see more problems. Remember I was talking about my hollow tiles. After rectification and inserting chemical, still can find hollow tiles. Never mind, the worst part is my tv console, shoe rack have lots of scratches and knocks. Very heart pain. When I complain about it, guess what, they use a marker to just paint on scratches and knocks. Wah lau eh, looks really cheapo and that's why I do not want any major rectification anymore. The more rectification, the more damages introduce. I was so heartpain to see the workers drag the heavy toolboxes from the kitchen to MBR. So think I have had enough.

  14. familyof4: I will do the same if I were you. Sometime I arrange all my stuff to come in on the same day. Like this Friday, im arrange some delivery because they could not delivery on weekend. If I take leave and wait at home and they don't deliver. I will be very angry and @$# them.

I do agree it will be more effective to go down and talk to them face to face. Talk to the decision maker, not the sales guy. Let him know your displeasure. I am sure something can be work work.

Hope to hear good news soon.

  15. ya man, this sat is THE DAY! come on faster faster!!!! hahahaha.

Aubrey: Functional is more important than aesthetic. When I plan my reno, I also think when the folks are around they would not have difficulty.

Glad to hear that carpentry will be done on Sat. I am sure yours will be nice. Actually the more simple the nicer. Looking forward to your pictures.

  16. That's because Uncle Soon almost completed 6 projects but their bank loans not approved yet so he needed cash to pay sub-contractors!

He asked me to pay him 10k cash with less than 24 hours' notice.

No wonder he called me up again after lunch. Ok sure if since he has cashflow problem, I will definitely help him out.

  17. Hi Gaku,

Hope everything's getting better. Hang in there man, hope everything gets settled soon then you can have a well-deserved break and recuperate.

Thanks adrian_join. Hope things will be better. This week I have arrange all my stuff to come in and so probably next week can have some rest.

I am impressed by your hollow tiles knowledge. Can even describe the sound. "Pei fu Pei fu" But thanks for sharing your knowledge with everyone here.

  18. how did the "money talk" goes? did u manage to agree on a fair settlement for you?

The "talk" will be this weekend. He merely ask me for partial payment and I told him will pay him this weekend and also the amt because already quite late.

  19. it took us 4 rounds of mopping... two of which I went on my knees which I find more effective. There was a suggestion in Mace's blog before.. to use feather dusters but I'm not sure how it works. You might want to read his blog?

If I were you I would take a lonnngggg break before i unpack. :P

One round of cleaning body already aching. 4 rounds very "siong". Someone suggested to use magic clean, the cloth type. Will go buy and try it out.

I still have many things at folks place and in the north that need to pack and bring it to my new place. So really need lonnngggg break..but not enough leave. So can do only abit on every weekend.

Yesterday was surprised to receive call from uncle to talk abt $$. Thought usually he will talk abt it one week after shift in.
