  2. just ask the electrician to treat it as a "telephone cable"

telephone cabes are Cat 3 cables ... whilst network cables are Cat 5/Cat 5e/Cat 6. same concept .. ;)

i just ask the electrician to run the wires from one central location to all the various points in the apartment and to terminate it on the face plate. you may need to supply him the patch panels lor .. cables he can buy from the same location where he buys his electrical cables

Need to do testing with lan cable testers like the one below.

    t3026.gif

Thus better do redundancy and run min 2 points per location in case one fails.

  3. I suppose your cables are not concealed ? You did your own trunking ?

I have seen those tools to terminate the wires. Is terminating the cables easy ? I havent done it myself before ...

    Cables in trunking..

Terminating with key plug (then to faceplate) takes a few practice before getting it right.

I will say Cat 5/5E is easy but not quite so for Cat6.

For Cat6 patch cord termination, still quite ok.

  4. Hello all,

I only started to follow this thread today! And a lot of HT experts seem to be here too.

As more and more Media Players are available on the market, like Popcorn, Dune, AC-Ryan; the battle between Sigma-based and Realtek chipsets. These players can output DTS etc. People are also using software to rip their Bluray into mkv files for storage onto NAS for jukebox-like access.

With the above developments, I am also looking into a Popcorn C200 set. When we move to this setup, are we still looking at the same type of HT 5.1 systems? Because over here, we've been talking about upscaling, HDMI out from DVD/BluRay players.... My assumption today is:

    Popcorn Video-out (HDMI) to TV

Popcorn Audio-out (Digital coax) to AV receiver then to HT 5.1

Pls correct me if I am wrong.

Just connect HDMI from Popcorn Hour C200 (Video and Audio out) to AV Receiver will do..

That's the whole purpose of having AV receiver where its one point of receiving all video and audio inputs.

  5. We are currently contemplating between what mattress to get and have shortlisted

    - Omazz

    - Serta Sophistication

Anyone using these mattresses can give me some feedback to help me decide?

    thanks

I'm using Omazz Fountain Oak for so far 4mths.

No complains at all except that very relunctant to get out of bed. Too comfortable! :P

Mattress does not feel warm at all.

No more backaches and sore shoulders/necks for a 75kg side sleeper like me.

  6. I've got myself an Omazz mattress. Seriously those shopping for mattress should give this brand a try to feel the difference.

I'd tried Simmons, Searly, Serta, Dunlopillo, Tempur, MaxCoil etc. Nothing comes close to Omazz in terms of comfort, body conformance and assurance. Comes with full warranty against sagging which pocketed spring mattress brand cannot provide.

  7. Wow, you seem to know quite a bit about Omazz, do you work for them?

If their profit margin is good I don't mind! :D

Anyways its bcos I did quite extensive reading before buying the mattress.

I'm a side sleeper, thus very particular with mattress body conformance. Else, will get shoulder/stiff neck easily.

Hence, spent months trying/testing out mattresses as I'm quite determined to choose the right/suitable one.

Its where we spend almost one third of our lifetime on isn't? :)

  8. Bro

    My personal advice.

If youre upgrading all your Front & Center speakers, you should upgrade your receiver as well. The Denon 1910 is a bit under power for performance.

Try the Denon 2310 or the Onkyo 707 or maybe the yamaha 1065.

Dont listen what the salesman says. Ive tried using a under powered receiver for my B&W once, & the performance sux until I got a more powered matching

    receiver.

    Cheers

Understand what you mean, regretted not trying the 2310 last week. Will do so before the installation date..to hear for the difference.

But this upgrade bug is so deadly!!

  9. Hi Jervis,

I read somewhere in this forum that an Omazz will sag after 2 years because it is all latex foam. Perhaps you may want to reconsider. Steel springs tend to be more resilient than foam and more durable.

The affected user (fr HWZ/ SgBrides? ) was using Felton Creek (Non-international model)? I prefer international models as they're better tested in consumer market.

From what I understrand, Omazz gives up to 18yrs (5 layers model) warranty against non-body conformance(sagging) with 1-to-1 replacement, thus this should remove worries of sagging.

In fact from what I'd checked, none of the pocketed spring brands covers sagging (can happen also) for their warranty, only covers warranty for their spring.

  10. hihi guys..i've just ordered a Def Pro 600 together with a CHT-8Q along with a onkyo 507..this is for my living room...do you think i should upgrade my only centre to ProCentre 1000? or should i get Pro 800 instead and downgrade my surround to Pro 600 with the remaining items remain? I have not collected the items yet due next week..difference between a Pro 600 sys and a Pro 800 sys is $600..thanks..

I'll say do it if your wallet agrees with your ear. Best way is to audition to justify if its worth your money for the upgrade.

Different people may have different preferences/"weight balance scale". E.g. My budget justification may not be same as yours. There are some ppl who may not hear the sound difference between a $6K and a $3K HTS sound system at all.

For me, I auditioned all Def Tech Pro600, Pro800 and Pro1000 sets before arriving at the verdict to get ProMonitor 1000 for fronts as I can really hear the difference.

PM1000 gives really more punch and details compared to PM600 and PM800 to me. I know I'll be happy with it without regrets and hopefully no more upgrades for me next 3-5yrs?? :P

    Happy auditioning and shopping! :D

  11. Hi is sealy mattress sagittarius consider good for that price range ? Is it a new model and considered as a higher end ?

Price less then 4k is it good?

At this price, I recommend you to go for Omazz Talalay full latex mattress. You can get a 2 layer (Model is called 'Ferme Plush' i think) for the same budget.

I'd tried mattresses from Sealy, Simmons, Serta, KingKoil, Dunlopillo, Tempur and Slumberland... including the highest end models from Sealy/Simmons/Serta and nothing comes close to Omazz.

I tried the 5 layers (FairMont) at Parkmall, its heavenly lor! Lie down and don't feel like getting up...

But no money to buy, thus went for 3-layers one instead with 20%+20% discount, free mattress protector and 2 free Omazz pillows (retailing at $250 each).

I seriously urge you to go try out Omazz mattress to know what I mean.

  12. Bro vicenzo70,

Due to budget constraint, I have to select the upgrade.

The living room is 4.5m by 5.4m, old 4 room HDB flat.

ProCinema 800 come with ProMonitor 800(4x), ProSub 800 and ProCentre 1000.

    Option 1: Upgrade Front L/R speaker from ProMonitor 800 (2x) to ProMonitor 1000 (2x)

Option 2: Upgrade ProSub to SVS or Velodyve

Option 3: Upgrade ProCentre 100 to ProCentre 2000.

which option has the most impact? which has the least?

    Thanks.. :)

I was in the same dilemma as you, deciding between all the available upgrades from ProCinema 800.

Agree with vicenzo70 too that option 3 to upgrade the sub would be the most significant change that can be heard/felt (really can feel the air punching when I tried the SVS PB12 NSD !).

Anyway I end up taking options 1+2+3 with downgrade of rear speakers to ProMonitor 600 after all the poisonous audition of all possible combinations at KEC. :D

*Wallet bleeding* But I sacrifice rear speakers mostly because my listening space (tiny living) is smaller.

    Final system that I got...

    Front L/R: ProMonitor 1000

    Centre: ProCentre 2000

    Rear L/R: ProMonitor 600

Sub: SVS PB10 NSD [Would love to have PB12NSD but its too HUGE!]

    AVR: Denon 1910
