    mould is related to the humidity of the room, the plank (what type of wood), and a number of factors.

    my suggestion as follow:

    1) take out the plank and sun them if possible

    2) buy a can of clear lacquer, those that look like spray paint of different color. but choose "clear lacquer"

    3) spray on all sides of the plank.

    it should be able to resolve or at least be able to prolonged the it greatly.

    simple rule of thumb. just treat them like you are the delivery guy.(just imagine you are in their shoe) kindness begets kindness, politeness begets politeness.

    if you dun like to meet some arrogant fellow who think he is the king, neither would these common folks who are just like any one of us.

    just say nicely everyone would understand.

    its actually better for you to QC on the spot so that if there are any issues, it would be easier to rectify since the guys are there. even if they cant rectify on the spot, it will be easier for them to understand what is the issue since they are there.

    i think what you are referring to are "cultured marble" in fact a number of those in the market which are very popular are not marble.
    to a certain extent those you are referring to are plaster with a layer of laminate.

    however they have the pros and cons.
    "cultured marble" are easier in term of maintenence, more resistant to coffee stains, however, they also scratched very easy.

    the best time to buy furniture i would think its the earlier the better.

    (however it still depends on a number of factor)

    generally prices are going up across the board, from mattress to sofas to wardrobe etc. (most things in singapore the prices are gng up)

    though i think we do not need to go into details and discussion of why they are going up.

    assuming the sellers are looking at a same amount of profit, if the cost is going up i see no reason the selling will be going down, unless maybe clear stock or new model coming in etc?

    so maybe there is not really a best time, but a time and shop and salesperson you are comfortable with.

    every brand got their high and low end mattress available.

    king koil and magic koil belong to 2 different company, with no relation to each other.

    in singapore the standard sizes are single,super single,queen and king.

    you can always custom make to the size you want for both the bed frame and mattress.

    however do note, super single mattress is 42" and queen is 60".

    for custom make the cost would be higher than the standard sizes available.

    anytime you like to change mattress, you need to customize again, and you might have problem looking for bedsheet (or you can use queen size for your slightly smaller mattress)

    you shld be able to view this sort in major showrooms, the 1st and 3rd image look like part of sectional sofas.

    for example the chaise portion of some models of L-shape sofas

    if you are the more hands on type, you can always also consider going to hardware shops to get the L-metal to the sizes you want.

    then fix up in the storeroom so that you can cover the full length if needed.

    things needed:

    1. dimension before going down

    2. how many of the L-bar needed (for the vertical and horizontal)

    3. the triangle corner plate needed for fixing up the rack

    4. size of the plywood needed

    the last time i ask about 3yr ago when i do up my house and i ask ard for the long square handle but quite diff to find. then i ask 1 guy about custom make it and they quoted about $600+. very very ex....

    so gave up and get the normal type wan

    its definitely cheaper to buy from there...but do take note of a few things before deciding to purchase from there...

    1) in the mall there, there are thousands of outlets there selling stuff

    2) usually 1 outlets are more specialise in a certain type of items, eg some sell sofa, some only coffee table and console

    3) get ready someone who can help you transport back the stuffs and able to unload the things and delivered to your house

    4) the charges involve in transport

    5) alot of them come to singapore in packing form, i.e box form..thus must have someone to be able to fix them up (do note it's not that easy to fix up some of the stuffs) not like ikea way of fixing, sometime i may take 2hr jus to fix up a tv cabinet or shoe cabinet

    I did go to Lorenzo, casa italy and Cellini. But it is not easy to get a leather sofa that fits into my budget. Perhaps i need to wait for the promotion....

    1st determine your budget.

    then wat's your preferences.

    synthetic leather has 2 main type, the PVC and PU

    myths:

    Leather are not less warm than synthetic leather but rather, to be more precise, it takes you longer when you start to feel the heat. eg. you sit on pvc you take 10 min to start sweating on the back, on leather sofa you take 15mins to start sweating, both will sweat.

    Leather will have mold and not PVC? not true.

    moldy or not depending on house environment, if your house is very humid no matter wat sort of material will have mould.

    i have seen solid timbre getting moldy too...

    leather must take effort to moisturise and avoid soapy water and even normal tap water only...if after clean water to wipe, please moisturise it...

    you dun really need full leather sofa, can consider half leather if you like to reduce the cost

    1st when in air con enviroment i think watever the material also feel cool and comfy...

    1 thing i realise whichever the material of the cover, one thing to note is for a sofa of the same material, the softer the back and seat (plush type) though its comfy, but they will be warmer cos when its soft so more of your body area will be covered thus warmer...

    so when more fibre fill it tend to make the sofa softer so do take note...

    though if comparing a sofa of same softness of fibre n sofa of soft foam, then fibre is less warm lor...

    Wanting to get a red L shape sofa for my place, anyone can advise whether the L shape side should be next to the window or away from the window? If you know what I mean. Thx

    1st question is how big is ur living room?

    if it is small then i suggest on the window side to have more walking arean and thus the place dun look so cramp

    if it big enough

    2nd question is wat do you prefer?

    by placing away from the window it could create a feel of having a seperate living area thus when you look at overall living room it would give you the feel that it is a dedicated area to watching tv and resting. and when u wanna dine or work it @ another area.

    thus putting where would depend on size and then preference

    Hi

    Some of my furnitures, TV console and wooden doors especially, look old but still in good condition. I wonder is there services out there to help revanish/repaint to give them a new look? Do those professional painters provide such service? I can't and have no time to do DIY and throwing away is heartache. Please advice. Thanks.

    1st n foremost you might want to check whether are your furniture real timber type?

    cos the solid timber type then they could b sand papered and re varnish.

    if laminate type, i dun think can re varnish

    most painters of houses they will only varnish with a layer of lacquer but not sandpapering the thing and repainting. the results would not b tt nice but still acceptable in most instances

    Hi

    I m going to start the search for a sofa(Probably a L-shaped that sits 4) for my living room. What are the things to watch out for in the selection process?

    Should be looking for a sofa with fabric material and removable covers as I heard that sitting on a full leather sofa will be warm in our climate.

    there are always pros n cons for each material, its a matter of which is a lesser of the evil for individual usage habits or preference

    Fabric:

    cons:

    1) will have a hard time washing and cleaning,

    2) when putting back the covers its always a hassel for me,

    3) if the fabric its not of good quality, it will still b warm, esp suede material

    4) easier to trap dust within if not cleaned regularly

    however if 1 have maid or not the lazy type like me, most of the cons of fabric could b ignored

    pros:

    1) if good quality fabric, less warm

    2) can make another set of covers to change the look now n then

    genuine Leather:

    cons:

    1) genuine leather have to b maintained regularly e.g applying leather care or moisturizer to prevent cracking

    2) some may not like the leather smell

    3) not as warm as synthetic leather

    pros.

    1) not as warm as alot of people think, less warm then synthetic

    2) easier to clean compared to fabric

    A 4 seater sofa usually range from 2.4m to 3m, thus alot of the new 4 rooms out there may not b able to fit a 4 seater L shape nicely.cos most of the newer 4 rooms are smaller in floor area and small living rooms.

    however if the older type of 4 rooms usually 100 square meter or more type, there should not b much prob.

    take note that the sofa always look smaller in showrooms compared to when at home.
