  1. WOW! Nice Transformation :D :D

Looks like a cosy boutique hotel now :yeah:

Especially this set of windows reminds me of a Chic Peranakan Residence

    Congrats :D

    ... oh ya...

    LURVE your Loo too... :yeah:

Altho is sounds weird... typing it...:P

haha thanks kor69..:) the boutique hotel thingy never really struck me till you said it. that must be the biggest compliment we've gotten so far. thank you! :D and the windows were designed by my hb who is peranakan, so i suppose it makes sense..lol..

I kaypoh come about... LOVE the before and after photos!!! I love the kitchen and the toilet area! GREAT difference! :)

thanks pinkpetter! yes the kitchen and bathroom have the largest difference (and the largest cost as well)..its hard to pinpoint my favorite place in the house though. i love the hall as i spend so much time on the couch watching telly, but i also love the bathroom and the MBR (bare as it is right now) since i love to sleep :P

very easy to DIY one, cordless screwdriver, power drill with different drill bits, just take out out...hehehe.... cos if i leave it to my contractors i worried may just take shortcut, those predrilled holes never clean out the wallplugs and just putty over.....

reno gg to start after the seventh month ends.... ;p

i left it to my contractors to remove the fixtures on their own..cannot imagine having to do it on my own! just cleaning and unpacking the house makes me want to peng san already..you are really :good::bow:

Hey, I like your total revamp!!, very nice indeed, esp the kitchen/bath area.

May I just ask how much was the total reno cost, excluding furnitures?

I am sorry if this has been has aksed umpteen times..

    Many thanks!!

thanks your nick makes me happy! :D the total reno cost is around $23k without fixtures & furniture..

  2. yupz, 3I in Toa Payoh... :) really need to cut down my reno budget  cos my flat is 40yo, one of the oldest flat in that area.... pple (my new neighbours) have been saying not to spend too much becos the flat might undergo enbloc within the next decade... nothing has been done yet, besides DIY removing all the fixtures, iron grilles, heater, curtain rails, shelves, getting rid of the wallplugs :D

oh tpy! good location..lots of amenities! wow you actually did those stuff on your own? :jawdrop:

so are you planning to start reno soon?

below your block.. that means blk 7 ah? i always have my dinner at that coffeeshop :P

i think should be blk 7 ba..haha i dun keep track of the other block numbers but there's only one coffeeshop in the neighbourhood. how come always have dinner at that coffeeshop? u live/work around there? the food's pretty ok, drinks are really pricey and zichar no standard. but as i said, only one coffeeshop so just have to make do..

  3. wow!!! then i'm more confident when i do up my reno next few weeks.... my existing utility tiles are an eyesore with wide grout lines...

are you referring to the neil road and spottiswoode park rd (hongkong street zichar)??? that one is good oso.... nearby sells those crispy bread.... ;p

we'll actually be carpeting the utility room so the tiles are gonna be covered up eventually anyway.

    is yours a 3-room too? no t-blog? i like to read 3-roomers' t-blogs :D where's your place?

yes, i'm referring to the hongkong zichar, can't remember the exact name. think its famous for their fish head steamboat.

  4. ok will try if i am the chance. ya, am also trying to have home-cooked meals if possible in order to save money but if lazy to cook, can have more options liao...hehe.

ya, after you have been to the one in bukit merah, you will know how small the one in tp is... :bangwall:

indeed! we were thinking how big it was before we actually realised they had TWO levels! :jawdrop:

we realised it was a bit difficult to cook dinner after getting home from work so we're now trying to cook on sundays for the weekdays. like last night, we cooked a few dishes and stored them in the fridge for mon-wed. may need to fine tune this arrangement. but for now, think it works better than rushing home to cook dinner..

  5. cosy cosy feeling. :) looks spacious with the open kitchen! nice transformation!

    thanks babe.. :yamseng:

    nice!

the utility room flooring is preserved or done up with new tiles?

thanks! no changes to the utility floor, just a few rounds of cleaning that made the difference.. :D

got gd food must recommend hor cos i will also be exploring the surrounding areas for gd food...btw the hokkien noodles at the tanjong pagar mkt is not bad, you can try during the weekend when there is less crowd.

yes i will! can try the neil road zi char i mentioned..tons better than the zi char at the coffeeshop below my block. i haven't eaten at the tg pagar market yet leh..we're trying our best to have our meals at home..save $$! btw, we went to the jln bt merah NTUC. omg you're right - its mega!

  6. wonderful transformation! great work gal! so nice to see ur eeky pre-reno house transformed into something so swee. Love the toilet to bits!

U using the common room for study? thought ur hubby wanted the utility room for study? better do up some curtains cos ur windows to corridor is clear glass...tempting crime to happen wor.

thanks sammy.. :D the common room is our recreation room. hb is using the utility room as his office. we've installed blinds at both the hall & common room windows, the blinds were up when we took the pic but its the same as the blinds you see in the hall.

    wow!finally its all over...hehe...

And now u can enjoy your beautiful house!

    When are u moving in?

thanks rondy, we've already moved in! will try out the western place at maritime house like you've suggested soon..last night we tried out the hongkong zi char along neil road. pretty good beef and sam lo hor fun!

    very nice~! congratz :yamseng:

    thank you!

    Hi hi Lilithfiend,

Waw, nice house. bright and cozy.

I love your choice of color, orangie wall tiles and blue tiles for tub. Red iron gate match nicely with the main door wor.

Your house looks spacious, does not look light a 3 roomed! Smart planning. :good:

thanks pcomaster..planning credit all goes to hb. i'm just in charge of buying stuff hahaha...the door and gate were custom made (but still cheaper than what our contractor quoted us for).

I like the toilet the best! Like a hotel toilet!

thanks gals_mama! we spent the most on our bathroom so yes, its probably what people like the most..

    wah nice house after transforming!!

u have the same layout as my parents place.. wah feel like asking my parents do "re-transform" the house after seeing urs.. haha..

i love your bathroom, so clever to combine both as one...

hey and the door of the first room you shifted? coz when i see, how come so near the main door.. =)

anyway, ur new home is so nice and cozy... welcome to everton park! =)

thanks emiahma! very flattered to hear that you wanna ask your parents to redo their place after seeing ours! *blush*

yep we shifted the common room door so we could put our tv console along that wall..most 3-rooms will have their tvs at the window which wasn't what we wanted. with our current layout, the tv viewing distance is a bit short but still ok..

  7. NICE!!!! So much better than before. Good Job!!!

Please take a nice pic of ur battub!! Esp when it is filled up!

thanks zelly! will try & put up more pictures soon..the place is still pretty bare as i haven't started on my "decor" phase yet. that will prob take some time..

    nice! :)

like the red door gate.... and oh the windows are nice too! very unique. :)

    *thumbs up*

    enough storage @ kitchen cabinets..?

thanks gimz! the red gate was designed by hb, inspired by the golden gate bridge in san francisco (our favorite city). and yes, the windows have been a talking point for family members who have visited us..

for now, storage in the kitchen is sufficient. but we think we'll run out of space soon, i suppose we just have to buy/store less stuff! luckily we've got a big fridge.. :P

Great transformation ger.... So so much better than before, love your open concept kitchen! :dribble:

thanks infinitie..yes the carpentry worked out well, we're happy with the workmanship..think you are too right? :D

this is really nice work - hiding the pipe as well the shower piping, ingenious! :good:

thanks titanax, that was purely hb's idea to maximise the bathroom space..we have an open-shelf cabinet on the other side of the wall which makes use of the gap between the pipes. shall put up pics of this soon.. :)

Finally! Picutures!! How I love your loo!

Hey do you find your kitchen cooking prep area a little dark? My light placement is similar to yours ,near the fridge and washing area and I find the cooking area not bright enuff with shadows cast over the prep and hob area, so am comtemplating adding more lights...

So good, all of you done already.. mine haven't finished... :( (Now having issues with main gate and leaking pipe...)

thanks! i know, we love our bathroom too! in fact, i love our whole house. its just such a great feeling to finally be able to have a place of your own, especially one which you have thought so long and hard about.

our kitchen prep area is pretty compact. yes, without the top cabinets, we lose the ability for undercabinet lighting. so far, we've relied on the light from the hood and a standing lamp that is placed behind the sofa which can be turned to shine on the prep area (and then be turned back to shine over the sofa when needed). actually, i would suggest installing track lights which can be directed to shine at different work areas of your countertop. i would have gone down this road if my hb liked track lights a little more.. :bleah:

  8. hmmm i just saw their manual, there's supposed to be an egg box. maybe tt's the one u have? funny, i didn't have one in my fridge.

edit: oops, ok maybe i have it, didn't expect tt to be the egg box. i just stuffed it into one of the compartments. hahaha.

oh so that is the egg box la...felt weird when i tried putting eggs in it. ok shall start using that then..its now currently just stuffed into one of the compartments like yours.. :P

ya, it does sound good to feel the whole outlet is to yourself when you shop in the middle of the night...no queue, no human jam etc... :) but we have to be contented tat there is already an outlet within walking distance from our house.

ya, am living at the new development there. haven set up any blog yet and still owing sammy jie something.... :D

i will be going there later, let you know if i see any hand foam there.

ya not a big fan of dodging the crowds when trying to get my groceries..they are opening a new kopitiam just below the blocks leh! you all very lucky. maybe should petition them to open a new shopping mall. lol!

    er.....

Why must be kirei kirei har? :P

hahaha cos i like the smell of kirei kirei..dun wanna buy another brand cos use very loonnng and i'll never get to replace it..

  9. wahahaha, i got 1 extra actually. u can have it if u wan. :P and yes, no egg tray, only found tt out aft it was delivered. which plastic thingy? u're not referring to the wine rack right? anyway, i realised those 10eggs-tray u buy can fit nicely into one compartment, so i'm fine with tt.

wah so nice of you :D ..but its ok you keep it for spare la. i'll buy one..

i'm referring to a transparent plastic box (with open top) that they left in one of the racks on the door. not sure what that is for? for now, i left my eggs in their original plastic tray.

  10. then got trauma dunno Torres leaving or staying...*sigh* imagine if he had left, my home cannot be called El Nino's Anfield ler... :~

muahaha if he had left, i think you need to change your name too. i put $20 on him to stay..lol. i had a strong feeling he wouldn't go, not this season anyway.

♫ his armband proved he was a red, torres, torres ♫

sorry sam, for hijacking your thread.. :P

  11. yes! tt's the first area i filled up. it now has boxes of magnum mini in it, frozen nuggets, fries, sotong ball, prata. wahahaha.. and yup, same fridge! and i love the ice tray. i bought a small scoop from Daiso for the ice.

hey, the small scoop is a good idea! i shall go get one too..hehe..

btw, do you know if the plastic thingy they left in the fridge is meant to hold eggs? cos ours don't seem to have any egg tray leh..

  12. actually i dun require a 24hr outlet la, i would prefer a bigger outlet like those 2 storeys one in bukit merah.

is it sold out? i tot i saw it on the shelf tat day.

i like 24 hours..then can shop when everyone's asleep! imagine an empty NTUC!! :jawdrop: lol..i like.

are you a pinnaclet? i can't remember + you got no tblog..if the outlet is too big, means many people, means no good. aiya we're just being fussy.

the only kirei kirei i saw is the body foam, no hand foam. i already went twice - monday and tuesday. both times dun have...until now, i dun have hand soap at home.

Congrats on the move-in!! So exciting!

thanks babe, your turn coming in no time!

    :) waiting for your pics!

eh dun pressure la...haha..i can't remember where i threw my card reader. plus i can barely find the energy to look for nice angles to take photos. plus, our dining table's not there yet and so is our wardrobe. we eat on the sofa and live out of boxes until next weekend when our wardrobe arrives. dining table - no end in sight yet. very hard to find one i like..

    Fill the freezer with lotsa...

    MAGNUM ice-cream bars...

1 for 1 until end of August...

    :o:o

AND haagen dazs tubs! 2 for $23++ until dunno when...

my freezer is stocked with those.

just dun forget to compliment those with a daily 2click run around the neighbourhood yah. ;)

no ice cream for me, thank you very much. my hb try & "contaminate" the freezer by suggesting we buy ben&jerrys last night. omg have to stay away!!

  13. congrats in moving in. i feel tat the ntuc is too small and limited variety of food to support the increasing population in tat area. wish one day there can be a bigger outlet with more variety.

i was just mentioning to my hb last night that hopefully one day they will make the NTUC a 24-hour one (we used to have one in Whampoa at our old place). in terms of size, yes it is a little cramped and would be good if they expanded. the only complaint i have is they never sell the kirei kirei hand soap!!! :bleah:

  14. hey guys, sorry for the brief MIA..yes we have officially moved in last Friday. It has been a very tiring and strenuous five days. Hb and I are still trying to recover from the cleaning and unpacking! We still have one room filled with boxes which have not been unpacked. We cooked our first meal last night, we've already walked twice to the Tg Pagar NTUC to buy groceries. Pleasantly surprised that they open till 11pm daily. We're very happy with our place..finally we have a home after years of renting and moving..

Anyway, will try to take some pics soon!

  15. been quiet around here! so shall make some noise and have some updates

wifey has photos of our hacked house!! havent uploaded yet so gotta wait for her :paint:

today went toilet bowl shopping (and wifey refuses to try... women  ) and saw some really cheap packages like $188 for a two-piece Baron WC and sink.. So likely might get that for common toilet! still deciding what to get for MBR sink and WC...

any advice where I can get cheap and good ones! don't intend to spend a bamboozle on a toilet bowl!!

go to GR Link @ 155 Jalan Besar, look for Jasmine. they got cheap and good WCs.

  16. Wah Lilithfiend, the unit looks like new, is it a tv console? $80 is really good buy wor :D

Hey I like to check with you whether you know where can I buy BLUM hingers for cabinets? Something like a shop in Kaki Bukit selling them? Never pay attetnion at that time while some renotalkers were discussing! :P . Thank you.

thanks pcomaster! yep, we intend to use it as our tv console.

your question about BLUM is answered by infinitie below..*actually i have no idea cos i had no plans to buy them* :P

Wow, great deal! Where do you go to find these deals?

Why is it when i trawl sites for secondhand furniture, I see old secondhand Ikea furniture or antique rosewood, while you get such gorgeous stuff?

Quick! 'Fess up! Which sites did you go (besides gumtree)?

hey both, this was a very lucky find on gumtree.sg. i drop in there every once in a while and luckily for me, the ad for this was posted up two hours before. i was very kan cheong to view and secure it so quickly made arrangements to view on the same evening. confirmed on the spot once i saw it..(and managed to get a $20 discount somemore :P )

besides gumtree, other sites i go to are ebay and craigslist. and curryqueen, you're right..half the time, the stuff on there are really crappy. just hv to wait it out..something good will come along!
