  1. Hi all, just bought an old 2-storey interterrace which I'll be starting A&a in a few months. In the process on selecting an ID or Builder for the work and encountered contrasting advice from the few that I've met. The compound has a large yard which I'm hoping to extend the level 1 maid/store room into a large multifunction room. Due to cost reasons and that this is an old unit, I've no intention of making a double storey extension.

The 2 ID companies I approached said it is possible and mentioned PE cost and submission to BCA etc. The 2 builders I met up to discussed both advised that for first level extension, submissions is usually not done. I know BCA had some guidance on light weight roof lean to extension vs concrete extensions.

As much as not making submission saves cost, I'm wondering if this will risk issues with BCA that bears penalties to the home owner or issues should I sell the unit in future since the blueprint will not show this extension. Any thoughts or am I simply over thinking 😅

Yes, our current builder is very experienced so if I had known them before, I guess I would consider engaging them directly if I know exactly what i wanted to do and if it is not complex. Although $40K for architect is a lot of $$, but I observed actually it is quite a lot of work for the architect so far. He met us weekly in the "design phase", and we are meeting fortnightly after construction starts. The architect did the full specifications (thick book & drawings) and managed the tender. Besides progress meetings, he has to attend to technical issues separately with the builder and engineer, and ad-hoc meetings on selecting finishes and interior.

    Hi AnneY,

Hope this message finds you well. I chanced upon your blog on renotalk. I read that the builder that you have engaged is a good one.  I am currently at the stage of deciding which one (builder vs ID vs architect) to go for,  and would like to get from you the contact of the builder and architect that you have used.

It would be great if you could share their contacts with me.

    Best regards.

  3. I dun believe in Feng Shui until recently when my mum got a stroke, and we got this Master Wang from a friend. Whatever he says happened exactly (good and bad ones), and he even predicted what will be happening based on the current place my parents stayed, and indeed, all came true. I thought its just coincidence and asked for him to view my current place since my parents believed in him and is staying with me now, I just try out.

To my suprise, whatever he predicted about our past and even near future came true... (all the very good and no so good things). Best of all,we didn't pay much for the Ang Pow cos he is charging standard rate, $168 per session for viewing a place. Even if we are required to place some Feng Shui items at certain places to neutralise things, the items are all at affordable prices (I paid less than $200 for 5 items all over my house). If interested, drop me a PM and I will forward the contact.

The new house I bought was also viewed by him before I OPT. Not saying my current house is no good, its good for me also with lots of luck. Whoahahahahaaa.... just that I need a bigger house, and my new house Feng Shui suits me almost 100%, including my family. So right place, right time, right person, its fate. Cheers.

Hello Ernieliew75, can you PM me the contact for master Wang please? Thanks!
