  1. oh a lighter note.. everybody deserves toilet paper with flower prints on them!!! world peace!! :thumbs up:

LOL!! Actually the more important question is - how many ply? Just imagine... happy flower toilet paper in FOUR ply... sure have world peace. Haha.

Glad to see things are progressing well. :) HO in Oct! Just a few weeks more. Whoo hooo.... Can't wait to see pix of your place, esp the kitchen!

Our reno starting next Mon - better go and buy those blue pills for Jason. Heh heh. :P

  2. am at low flr, 4th floor sir

throw in a water heater and is a 6 yr old flat, i buy the plumber's words. ha!

Yo yo.. welcome back. Was wondering what happened to you. Glad to see that the reno is coming along.. "Day Something..." lost track liao??

Wah, so your water pressure is good - going for Raindance?? :sport-smiley-004:

  3. u another dunno DIE how to write is it? say lachesis ridiculous! Later she twist ur ear off! omg, i machiam encouraging all wifey to twist ears..wahahahahaha

HAHAHA. No need to twist ears. No cleaning of crystals = No chef-grade cookouts. :P

  4. wa.. really cannot agree more with your pointers, really. think you have put into words whatever selection and thought processes we went through.

And yea, Hafary is the place to go. ID brought us there straight too cause accordingly to him, hafary has lesser variety but packs more designer-esque kind of tiles.

can't wait to see your tiles! like i said, i think u two will really turn the flat spectacularly

Thanks! ;) The tiles we chose were actually quite simple. We weren't really going for the spectacular look. But Hafary is a good place for variety.

bought my T5s and downlights frm Alex at A Lighting Ent. you're the 2nd to comment that lighting.com.sg selling much cheaper. hai..

Don't sigh Ne0. You misunderstood. Lightings.com.sg is the cheapest in Balestier, but A Lightings is even cheaper! Plus Alex is really nice and down to earth. We're getting our stuff from him. Even found a better light for the kitchen and bathrooms, compared to the what we saw at Lightings.com.sg.

squeeze some of those items in 1. from the place you bought FOC. my was foc except for the pop up waste

as for 2. hai... i gotta buy liao.

Can squeeze meh? Heritage like macam cannot squeeze leh. As for 2., lagi cannot squeeze. HG showroom confirm cannot squeeze. Probably have to buy from Heritage. :P Irene from Heritage is very well informed - impressed with her service.

  5. Hey! I have somethiing like that in my MBR now.. thinking of selling coz wanna get proper bedside tables.... you want?

Heya, thanks for the offer. But we decided against it. Alex from A-Lighting mentioned that the constant bending will create wear and tear for the wires. If the insulation wears off, it could cause the power to trip :( He even demonstrated with one of the lights on display in his shop - it would flicker as he moved the light around.

Going for a regular lamp instead. ;)

  6. 1. WC pan collars and basin bottle traps are not included. When u buy WC and basin, they will sell u the pan collars and bottle traps too. Bottle trap can be pvc( ard $3-$5) or ss (ard $60-$80)

Would you recommend pvc or ss? We'll need to get four - one for each basin, two for the double-bowled kitchen sink. Had a bad experience with pvc at the old place. It didn't 'lock', it just kept turning and we didn't know if it was securely fastened. And this was under the kitchen sink! :bangwall: Not sure if this contributed to the cabinet there being wet all the time.

    2. As for the exposed bracket/0.5" connector, when u buy the mixer, they will give u free or charge u on that depend on the shop u buy from.

Hmm... so we'll need 2 pairs then, one pair for each bathroom. Nothing is free in HG, gotta buy. :P

  7. Went down to Balestier on Sunday to look at sanitary ware, but it turned out to be a lighting trip instead. :P After a few shops we both came to an 'awful' realisation - to have the most impact for the dining light, we'll have to consider one with crystals.

Why 'awful'? B'coz just thinking of dust collecting on those pretty pretty crystals is enough to make me cringe. I was finally persuaded when I wrangled out of the hubby a promise to help clean the crystals. Heh heh heh. :sport-smiley-004:

Went to a few places before finding a dining light we like. The rest of the house was quite easy to settle. Now for the shocker...

For the same kind of downlight, lightings.com.sg was selling it $10 less - per piece! Same finishing, same Australian ballast! :jawdrop:

Now just to make one more trip to see if we can find an even nicer dining light, and one last trip to A lightings to compare prices, and see if they have these kind of bedside lamps.

@Jaskel - Remember these lamps? You said you know where to find. Can you tell us where?

  8. The Harmony of Tiles

Spent about four hours on Sunday selecting our tiles - Hafary definitely is the place to go! Here are some tips we thought to share on choosing tiles :)

Tip # 1 - The tiles should SPEAK to you

The most obvious type of tile in this category - what Jason now calls the "Love at First Sight Tiles". The ones that you just must have, even if it costs thrice what you budgeted. You can then build your tile selection around this tile.

For those on a budget, stand at the shelf where the tiles are in your budget range, and wait for something to speak to you. There will definitely be some that appeal to you straight away, colour wise, or texture wise

Tip #2 - Let there be HARMONY

My star sign is Libra, so harmony is important for me. ;) The in thing now is having more tiles to create funky designs, but imo it should look like some thought had gone into the design, not just a rojak selection of tiles that you like.

    Harmony in TEXTURE

Choosing two tiles with the same texture but a different colour creates harmony in texture. Conveys a sense of deliberate continuity since our brains naturally seek out patterns.

    Harmony in COLOUR

Choosing tiles in the same colour family (can be different in texture) creates harmony in colour. Having shades of the same colour is aesthetically attractive and again conveys a sense of deliberate continuity.

Tip #3 - LESS is MORE - most of the time

Choosing more tiles for one room (e.g. bathroom) does not always equal more funky, more interesting. Don't forget - when selecting tiles we only see one small section of the tile, not a large area covered in the tile. Choosing 10 different tiles for say, a bathroom will end up just looking like rojak. The selection should look like some thought has gone into it, why certain tiles match others, or why this tile and not another one.

We really have to give credit to Jason who gave us some really good ideas on how to play with colours and textures. After we'd chosen about three or four tiles, he noticed that the hubby and I were picking 'cosy' tiles, i.e. matt, warm, earthy tones. But we didn't let the theme ('cosy', 'modern' etc) limit us - we just decided to keep an open mind, and just have fun! In the end, it's our house... so as long as WE like it... we'll go for it! :P

Stay tuned to see how our cosy bathrooms turn out... ;)

  9. hahaa yes... odd that he likes blue M&Ms only!!!! wifey what you tinking!?!?!? hehehe..

LOL. No worries - all of us were thinking the same thing as your wifey..

haha you spelt quality and quantity correct but haiz wrongly!! yep agreed, but again i don't think paying more for the same item is gonna make it better since.. it's the same item? :P went to compare a few shops and for the exact same light, lightings.com and A lightings have it cheapest.. The rest of the shops tend to offer higher range stuff and were jaw-droppingly few k more cos they are swarovski crystals etc... We are also bought over by the sincerity of the guy at A lightings too :D

Yup, totally agree. Cheaper is better IF everything else is the same - same item, same quality etc. :) Just thinking of light shopping headache already - will have to go check out A Lightings. :D

  10. "Little blue pills"??????????? :notti:

Hee hee, check out Jason's post on his little blue pills on our T-blog.. :P It's not what you think it is!

Anyway Hubby and I have started scouting for lightings.. Think we shall buy from A Lightings Enterprise along Geylang Road.. Got good reviews plus the service is quite good. They even offered to help us source for lightings in the designs we wanted - just need to show them a picture! And i think they are slightly cheaper than lightings.com.sg. :yamseng:

Oooh, sounds promising. So far lightings.com.sg seems to be the most popular shop. How is the range at A Lightings? Quite impressed that they can even source for you based on a picture.

  11. hey hey hey........ finally huh! ...remove all the window grills AGREE! and i'm prepared to get all the nagging...Master Bathroom - also needs major overhaul - first to go, the bath tub. AGREE! concentrate on a gd rain shower!

Yeah, finally. I guess being really busy at work was a good thing for once - kept me busy enough not to fret over the waiting. HAHA. Er, nagging over the grills?

Yup, for the MBR bath, if the pressure is enough, can consider the Raindance rainshower. :dribble:

am bloody convinced that many owners previously went to buy the tiles together, LIKE REALLY TOGETHER. otherwise, why is every ex owners used almost the same kind of tiles!

 makes you wonder doesn't it...you know 15 yrs down our kids will be saying the same thing about our selections too ;)

Haha, exactly. Guess that was the fashion then, just as rectangular tiles are the fashion now. Things always come back in fashion again though, just like mosaics are making a come back. But am not going to hang on to the current look of the bathrooms hoping it comes back in fashion! :P Seriously though, think it's safer to go for simple designs that won't go out of fashion too fast.

keep your options open about the tiles yeah! have a look and get a feel of what you like before picking it!

I'm anticipating that there will be an overwhelming amount of choice (= more headache on what to choose!), but yeah, gonna keep our options open. Hope that if we see any we "die die must have" won't be too pricey! *note to self - bring magic calculator along for Jason.

Stay tuned - going to select tiles this Sunday. Gonna make our selection ahead of time so once we get the keys, Jason can hit the ground running. Go go go! :sport-smiley-004:

  15. And so it begins...The Extreme Makeover

After what seemed like an impossibly long 8 weeks, and a long list of "prelude" posts, our 2nd appt is upon us, and we finally got to go inspect the place. Jason came along to take site measurements. Interesting observation - some of the windows in the house were sliding, some were casement. Going to leave them that way, but remove all the window grills. The general condition is still decent, but the overall style doesn't appeal to us. Going to have to undergo an EXTREME MAKEOVER.

Here's a look at the original state of affairs:

The Main Gate - looks to be in decent condition. Can't decide whether to replace or revive it with a new coat of paint.

    Gate.jpg

The Foyer - this used to be the corridor - bought over by previous owner, but it doesn't feel like it's part of the house. Just looks like a private corridor. Will need to add some design elements and integrate iit with the living space. Perfect place for sitting down to wear shoes - a luxury we never had in the old place.

    Foyer.jpg

    The Utility Room (aka Storeroom)

    UtilityRm.jpg

The Living Room - paint on the walls was peeling. Cornices and ceiling lights way too 'busy'.

    LivingRm1.jpg

    LivingRm2.jpg

  16. Yet another quick update (I feel like a Twitter account):

Permit applied for. Hacking starts 30 August.

I still have so many things to pack... oh. my. god. I'm really freaking out right now.

Don't freak out! You have about 3 - 4 weekends left. This weekend is a long weekend, so you have 1 extra day - must make full use of it! Break it down into one room at a time.

Of course, pack the things that you're still using or still need last. :) Oh, useful tip - for things in bottles, your glasses, or bottles that might leak etc, buy those big plastic boxes and pack those breakables inside. Less likelihood of them breaking in transit.

Jia you!! You can do it!!

  17. Display cabinet (finally :dribble: ):

    day32studyroom1.jpg

That's a nice looking display cabinet! Think you mentioned you have toys to display - that must be a LOT of toys. :) Hee hee.

The reno is really coming along nicely. :):good: Like your use of glass at the study and kitchen. Looks like you'll be on target for your 7 Aug move. :D

  18. moral of the story: always put in ur shoes before the man does so. i hadn't unpacked my shoes yet when he came to me with big big eyes, "aiya, i forgot i got boots & rollerblades, how?" then soft-hearted me give him one cabinet, thinking i had enough place for my shoes. obviously i don't have enough. but too late.

We are such suckers when they do the big big eyes, pouty lips, looking like lost little boys lar... :P

haha ok la, u're still better than me. ytd i counted another 18 pairs of shoes which have not been brought over to join the current 19 pairs in the cabinet. :P lucky i only have 1 pair of boots which can fold cos it is fabric, but i like those knee high boots i always see on the VS sites. :dribble:

Hahaha. The 11 pairs are only the ones I brought along while was are crashing at my in-laws. Still got another 10 pairs in storage.. heh heh.

Oh, boots, yes.. I bought a pair in Hong Kong, Pikolinos Knee High Heel Leather Boots... fell in love with it when I saw them.

    PikolinosKneeHighHeelLeatherBoots.jpg

Plus they are not too tight around the calves as I've got runners' calves :( Only problem is, haven't worn them much here in SG. Wore them to work under a denim skirt once on dress down Friday and EVERYONE asked if I was going clubbing that nite. :bangwall:

Should invest in a pair - every woman needs a good pair of kick a.s.s boots....

"These boots are made for walking,

    That's just what they'll do,

One of these days these boots are gonna... walk all over you"

  19. Heya,

Keeping fingers crossed that your stuff comes in on Sunday! If it doesn't, make sure you scold them till their ears fall off! H.e.l.l hath no fury like a woman who doesn't get her furniture!!!

  20. ne0: Not quite... although my sinus is now unclogged.... from time to time it still hurts when I blink. But mostly okay now. Spending my MC working from home...

    Hi Yuene,

Get better soon! :( Really not fun to be sick and try to pack.. Got hit by tonsil infections two days before the last big packing push.. GRRR.

Aiyoh, why are you working from home if you're on MC!! Go and rest!!!

  21. i recee liao. Daiso is $2 per stacker. The Japan home one is slightly cheaper I think.

Pinktini, the boots and rollerblades are not counted as shoes in his opinion. one is a necessity, one is a hobby...so in his mindframe, it's still he has 3 pairs of shoes nia! haha...

Wah, the shoe stacker looks v cool! So far have only seen those transparent shoe box-shaped type, which is quite stackable also.

Also realised that men have very few shoes needs when we were packing up our shoes before the move.

Hubby - one pair of Birkies to wear just about everywhere, one pair work shoes, one pair casual shoes

Me - one pair of Birkies, one black slip on, two pair pack heels, one pair brown slip on, one pair white slip ons, one pair brozne slip ons, one pair FANCY bronze slip ons for dinners etc, three pair ballet pumps for dress down fridays and casual outings... 11 pairs... heh heh heh :P Boots and rollerblades tucked away in storage. ;)

learn from me.. for our place, the built in shoe cabinet each side has about 8 shelves, each shelf is able to put 4 pairs, i gave my fiancee 2 shelves and told him the rest are MINE :)

Patsy - EXCELLENT advice for all the ladies out there. Heh heh heh. :good:

  22. U know those price tags on gifts we buy, I have seen a salesman using a lighter to sort of heating the tag very quickly and peel off. Initially when I saw him taking out the lighter, i was  . I tot why he needs a lighter to wrap present?

The tag came off nicely but with our furnitures, better try with cautious.

Err.. don't think will try that. Might end up burning fingers, or setting the item that we just bought on fire! Woooossssh..... hahahaha.
