The Amway is an expensive air purifier, has a average performance rating and needs expensive filter replacements often. I live in a large apartment in a city full of dust and chemicals. I looked long and hard before I decided on my air purifier, being concerned that I would get the wrong one. I finally bought the HealthMate Plus. It is guaranteed to last 5 years with no filter replacements. I found many who claimed that it does a great job of remove particles and gases. It was also less than $600 us dollars. It seemed to be one of the best I could find that was fairly priced and had a lot of satisfied customers.
Yes they do work in my opinion if you get a good one like the one I have. I could tell the difference within a few hours of plugging it in.
