  1. i wonder how the new SG LEMON LAW will affect these guys, since they are delivery a brand new custom made product to us. a lot of them will close shop every half year....tsk tsk tsk

yes yes! the new lemon law came to my mind too! but need to wait till Sept to be effective and what the law really covers. It's gonna be very tricky to define things for both consumers and sellers.

  2. Try to "teah" your contractor into changing the crack tile. Or bribe him and his tiler over a dinner and 1, 2 crate of beers. Worst case scenario, try stomp your feet and cry in front of him.

huh...... :jawdrop: erm... he is paid do what he is supposed to do. I believe if he is professional enough he should do what's right. No nd to bribe or teah lea..

  3. Maybe you look too young that why he is not taking you seriously. If over by few days, as long as before move in then should be ok lah.

we worry cox our furniture(S) and all the items ordered stuff will all come in on Monday le. Didnt want to spoil anything :(

keeping fingers crossed!!!!!!!!!!!! wish us luck man :thumbs up::sport-smiley-003:

Add - I just realise you say me look young!!!! thankiew~~~~ :dancingqueen::dancingqueen:

  4. I know.... This is also my first home. Especially we buying alone, loan for flat also so much then on top of it, renovation too. Calm down, ok? U overseas, got to depends on grace and he don't even give her face. Talk to her so rudely?? Hmmmm.....

not say rudely la. Probably sound more like not taken seriously. But maybe also can be he may not be good in communication... haha after discussion w Neo. I send whatsapp alrdy saw 2 ticks = he receive and read... but he just didnt reply... wahahahahahahahahahaha nothing to say hoepfully if his colleague see le will help to advice him to improve bah. i am trying to be reasonable, hopefully we will not be pushed too far. i very scared now cox now like that and Sat is hand over

  5. NeoBY, I'm seriously getting worried too! The workmanship is really bad...

sigh... idk but seriously, maybe depends on person but i felt the way he talk to me machiam fu yan, not taking me seriously after i call him up upon looking at the house today. Even when i mentioned cracked walls, he said tiles actually hard, so is impossible to not have crack.. so he have to check on this... i'm like :jawdrop: HELLO! :bangwall: The paint work looks rushed & the $140 we paid to fill up the gap between wall and trunking doesnt look professionally done, or rather to the expectation. Furthermore, painting works seems to have completed but some spots like, again rush and not covered properly.:furious:

enough said, thou date line is till friday, which he mentioned we can drop by coz everything would be done... we shall see whether all these will be delivered as promised. *benefit of doubt k* sigh...

  6. i think still got 1 month+ before i can see my house getting it's own chemical wash.. cant wait for that day to come.. :sport-smiley-004:

btw anyone know if there is anything that we need to take note of when they are doing chemical wash? i saw people having trouble with their laminate skirting after chemical wash, like it was peeling off. or some metal parts become corroded within a few month. should we ask them to take note of all the metal/wood part of our home?

Chemical wash for what i know when i spoke to the contractor is that for the wall tiles and floor, after the wash some of the fillings may peel then they will fill it back. For skirting wise, am not sure but you may want to check with your contractor if in a case of such, would they rectify for free or smtg. Cox i'm aware that those better quality de may or may not experience that, depends on the workmanship de.

Hope i help. very 2 cents de coz not as experienced  hehehe but yours looking good le! 1 mth very fast one! that time we were saying take 2 months, but look where we are alrdy :dribble: hiak hiak :) enjoy this journey k!

  7. Haha.... It's exciting and seem long. But after u move in, everything will look like very short. Enjoy the last few days.

So if cannot rectified then how? How abt the quality? Good?

hmm quality ok, but the workmanship rather disappointing. Like very "rough" , the work. hahaha but contractor like also surprise this carpenter delivery work like that. he said not the standard for him lea. so hopefully they will rectify it. We went down on sun and gonna pop by again to see lo *FINGERS CROSSED*

  8. DAY SIX

Electrical wires and casements are dismantled

    IMG-20120320-WA0016.jpg

And I didn't ill-treat the workers. I bought them each a Coca Cola to reward them :D

When I was about to leave the house, I saw another worker came up with many other tools. They told me that they will be doing the cement and sand tomorrow, then Thursday will start the tiling works. I supposed I will see the debris gone by this evening or tomorrow morning.

oo! your casement is like build in kind! so wont look so bulky hor! nice! initially got the though of doing so too, but might nd top up if more hacking included, so didn't suggest.. hahahaha your reno looking good!

    All the best yar!

  9. Hi grace, just 1 cabinet having this problem? Other than that, everything ok? Can't wait to go see....

yup only 1 cabinet. but the problem is it is made in a way where its like 1 unit with 2 doors. Thats why contractor say cannot rectify.. :bangwall:

:) we also very excited to see everything nice and clean after acid wash soon ! :dancingqueen: hahahaha now i understand how the rest of you all feel. the journey seems long if were to look back yet very short coz always counting down the days to see final product :drunk:

  10. LOL... love your logic.

The most beautiful things dont need much cleaning, it is usually the ugly (or lousy) one that does.

I want to use Quartz tile for flooring... anti-bacteria, dont stain, wont melt, very tough (diamond hardness is 10; Quartz is 7), scratch proof, wont chip, wont crack but my wife rather use the money to buy more bags and shoes.

so you end up never use la? think your wife smart la. Reno little little things add up an be rather a big sum. Not many of us can afford, even if can, frankly speaking hor, maintainence can be a really PITA lea.. . so economical abit :)

Why not start your own t-blog now? i see you already have much photos and ideas that other bloggers/future house owners can learn from your experiences, which is the purpose of this blog :sport-smiley-018:

This is a friendly t-blog on Lukie's home so hopefully let us all be a little considerate :yamseng:

  11. sorry folks, accidentally replied using NeoBY's acct.

Anyway just a quick update... the kitchen cabinet cannot be rectified and thus looking for other alternative to place the rack inside it. At the moment is kinda stupid to have a pull out rack to need to walk around the cabinet door to take sauces while cooking right..... sigh.... gonna let the contractor propose liao.

On a cheerier note, we are informed that chemical wash is on thur & by fri be clean clean !

  12. Today we went up to look at the house. quite happy with the result. Looks bright hor....not like previously

I like your living room pendant light! I was thinking to use something similar for my MBR, as i want to save cost by not doing L box / false ceiling in MBR. But wonder whether is it bright enough to use as a main light?

Hi Valerie, you may want to take a look at the last picture. That is taken with all the down lights off. Only pendant light is on. It's more cozy feel, but it is bright for us coz its warm lighting :D

  13. Before make payment, need to ask these suppliers to list out the costs first. Negotiate before payment. If not end up pay for miscellaneous amount, though doesn't look a lot, but add together can be a huge sum.

i agree. Neo's reno seem to have other cost like trunking plastering, door knob change, though doesn't seem like much but add up also few hundred plus liao...

Another question... is it common for contractor detached / remove window grill to do tiling.. but charge $ to fix it back ? :jawdrop:

  14. The citygas heater is up. I wasn't there to see how the gas pipe installation is.

    img20120305wa000.jpg

    I don't like Citygas's charges.

The heater cost 168 with 60 free pipe installation. And they charge another 100 for cooking gas pipe installation?? I thought entry gas pipe should be the same? Anyone can advise? I mean I still have not seen the installation.

Notice also the grilles were removed to facilitate the tiling works. Got the quotation from contractor it's 130 to install the grilles back.

Previously I intended to remove the grilles and change windows but I changed my mind just before work started.

Renovation all talks $ mah... they dont rob you (us) now then when wor... :notti:

  15. i hate the $100 charge to "CONNECT" the gas pipe to the hob.

i mean when they come to "CONNECT/INSTALL" the gas heater it was a lot more work, and it's free.

so when you compare the "connect gas to hob" which takes only 5 minutes, you don't see that rationale, other than it is a monopoly pricing.

the gas heater is also pretty unstable. (it may be just my unit) i had the gas setting "perfected" two weeks ago, and suddenly it does not work anymore. i had to change the settings to get it to work the same way it used to be. very frustrating if you are in the middle of a bath.

Oh is that why you ask May_dream how she adjust to find the suitable temp? hmmm didnt know gas heater like that lea...
