The chest or box that I have in mind is basically using the framed tiles(E.g. configuration of 9 tiles) as a door for the opening side, be it on top or front. Another option will having small boxes with single tile pasted on top of it...to make the box more interesting, you can add a padded frame wrapped with fabric to conceal the rough edges of the tile. Hope you get what I meant...hehe If you really like the tiles so much, try not to bond it permanently to a surface....try to think of other ways or else you will damage the thing when you rip off. I found some of those tiles at an antique shop at Arab st but I find it very expensive...3 pcs like $70-80. Find it kind of over-priced.

The tiles looks WOW! Where did you hubby get them? I have been searching for such tiles for quite a while. Apart from using the tiles as coasters or framed, you can also display them flat in a wooden tray and have some small potted plants or an oil burner on top of it. If you want to do framing, frame them individually in a frame with some depth to create a pop-up visual rather than the flat picture frames, try the IKEA's Ribba series frames. Erm...how about getting a nice wooden chest and mount the tiles on the covers?

Erm actually I never buy those items directly from the As-Is section...I spotted this set of frames with a damaged print on the shelves. I asked the IKEA lady if I can buy it at a cheaper price and she say can be sold as an As-Is item after her superior's inspection and approval. Her superior was reluctant to sell the set of prints to me at first because he questioned me why I want a damaged print for. I kept quiet but in my mind, I was like saying who wants the prints, it is the frames that I am eyeing for.

Some new fabric canvases for my dining area. Got the canvas frames as As-Is items from IKEA, it costed me less than $20 for 3 small square and 1 long rectangular frames. As for the fabrics, I bought the floral and circle fabrics from Vietnam and the vintage print from Spotlight.

Oh yah it is common...many people cannot understand why a piece of plastic artifact can cost so much. One of my auntie thinks it is totally ridiculous have such an expensive plastic lamp in the living room....even knocking my lamp hard to see if there is anything special, I am really angry at that moment. Have to educate people why a designer piece is so expensive, for example the Kartell products...the materials used are of better grade and clarity, nice product design, good workmanship for joints in plastic...it is seamless, and lastly the recognition of the creator. I am very sure many people are very happy when they found a replica because it is cheap but the design proportion, material and workmanship are mostly different. The most obvious faults are the design proportion and joints of the artifacts. My darling also has the same problem in accepting expensive designer furnitures initially but after my explanation, she is fine and can appreciate them already.

Thinking of getting a ghost chair for my study room but I do not have any spare $$$. Managed to get a good price for a ghost chair from SPACE through their management but in the end never buy...wat a waste...sigh. Now I have a tulip chair in replacement of the ghost chair, its an old piece that I sprayed with white paint. hehe....

Looks like you are going to have an exciting home coming up! Looking forward to see the real thing! I love the Kartell Lamp maybe can consider to have them as my wedding lamps rather than the traditional battery operated ones...is it bright? Any other big lamp to choose?

I am suppose to go there to buy some things but until now I still have no time to go there or probably too out of the way. Most of the shops there are wholesale...so price is better. Post pics of what you have bought leh....

Hi Air, Glad that you have found the things that you like. May I know what is the name of the shop you went to?

There is no expert here lah...aesthetic is very subjective. Some people may not like what I think is nice or vice versa. Everyone has its own way in appreciating design and art, just be yourself and do whatever you feel is good...do not bother with what other people say. I also learn about design and art through education, books and surfing loads of websites. I always feel that a home is more homely and has more character when the owner personally put in the effort to style his/her home.

Erm...the theme "Modern Contemporary" can mean alot of styles, the range is very wide. Very difficult for me to visualise the home setting and to tell you what is best for her coz her taste for art appreciation may be different from me. The safest graphic choice will be pictures like flower and plants. Speaking of modern home, it is not necessary to choose accessories that are modern too...she can create a contrast by using something that is ethnic like the Indian Sari...it is a beautiful fabric then she can mount on frames or just hang on a pole fixed to the wall. Wall graphics is not neccessary to be in framed format, just be creative. Another thing that I have realised in modern homes is that many people restrict themselves to colour choice, like everything must be red, black and white...actually can add another colour to create a contrast and a focus point in a space... If she want some paintings, she can try the art galleries at club street, dempsey road, Park mall and Holland Village areas. I think there is a shop at the old turf club selling quite a range paintings at a very reasonable price. 1K is quite alot leh, can let me get alot of things for my home...how i wish I can have 1K to spend for my home. Hope my thoughts can help you a bit...

Woohoo...sound interesting! Consider the gnome stool by Philippe Starck, it is totally quirky! You sound like a crazy home-maker but I like your style! Where is the shop Comfort and Gnee Hong? Heard of their name but dunno where and what they sell. So far I have only explore old neighbourhood stores to hunt for those retro furnitures! My home is over populated by chairs or seatings, I think I am addicted to chairs! My wife is irritated by the numbers of chair...hehe

Ahhh...Good Good! That is eclectic spirit, refurbishing! I have collect a few pieces of old furnitures too, some from grandparent's home and roadside. So far I have convert a tulip chair to a low table for my Kartell table lamp, resprayed a tulip chair to white, and a chair waiting to be send for refurbishing. I do not have much time for refurbishing right now. Gotta be on full force in preparing for my upcoming wedding in early november.

Any style, artist and budget in mind? What is your friend's home theme and the colour scheme of the home especially the place where he/she want to put up the painting? You can also check out one of the forumer's thread, Diva79, she customise painting for people.

Eclectic theme is very rare in Singapore maybe because not many people have the exposure of such home style. I love the victorian kind of eclectic theme too but just find it too serious and sophisticated looking...prefer to have the more fun type. I am still hunting for things to add on... Please post and share more pictures of your home....looking forward to see more! Cheers

Well...I think many of us has taken many things for granted or probably have never notice the unpolished gem among the junk. Those rubberband chairs do not appeal to me when I was young and in fact I find them ugly and old fashion looking, thinking only my grandparents will have them. But now I am seeing the chair differently, it is a "designer" chair to me or maybe it is the application of the chair that make it look different.

I have been moving things from my old home to my future home and I have managed to find many of my hidden treasures that I have been keeping for years. One of the item is the IKEA lighting for shelving system, NON(I think thats the name). There are 2 packs and they were bought 6 years ago but luckily still working fine. So instead of using it for shelving, I have use it as a floor light to highlight my bamboo arrangement at the corner. Mrs Sumobear loves the highlight.

Hihi... Cool idea on eclectic, finally found someone in RenoTalk who is interested in this home theme! I love that style too. I styled my home with a modern electric theme! Good luck with your new home! Cheers...

Hi Apple, Check out this website... http://www.central-iron.com.sg/ourstory.htm My chair is distributed by this company. I called them and they redirect me to the nearest shop to me that is selling their products. You can call and check with them for the nearest place to where you are staying right now. Their products are kind of old fashion but I think the some of them still retain its classical beauty like the circular rubber band chair that I have. Hi Air, Concourse is a good place to hunt for things...quite rewarding. You can find artifical flowers and plants too. Your home is looking good too...I love the platform in your living room, can do modelling catwalk show. Hehe...I love to reshuffle my home furnitures to create the best visual and comfortable layout, so I will avoid having any permanent fixtures like cupboards or feature walls. Interior fashion trend changes very fast, so I do not like to constraint myself to the moving trend. I prefer to do it my way...

erm...does it really feel boutique? Hehe...I dunno leh, I am just developing the Modern Eclectic theme for my home. You can find such vases at concourse building, top level. I think it is about $50-60 for a tall one...but you must get the thick glass kind coz some have thin glass in the center and the vase will crack and spilt when you have heavy things. Such chair is not easy to find because there is no demand and most shops will not display, have to ask the shops whether they sell. The chairs are purchased from a shop at Bedok Reservoir but I do not have the address...if you want I can PM u when I am back home. Initially I have a blue colour one but after that my MIW bought the red one and both Mrs Sumobear and I love it so much and we just swapped hehe.... Some of these chairs are made in M'sia, so the production may varies....both of my chairs are different heights and the sitting posture is different too.
