The Haiku fan is really pretty to look at. It provides a cool and natural breeze as opposed to blasting wind.

Suspended headboard and desk with led lights, I love the reflection on the cement floor.

I love it, the whole place feels like an art gallery or shrine due to the shiny cement floor and cove lights. Can't wait to see the finished product!

Let there be light! Finally the lights are up this week so I can take some pictures of the renovation in progress. Non visible cove lights are the designer's trademark, as you can see from these pictures.

The ID designed the whole apartment and selected all the furniture and fittings, but to cut cost we decided to leave my parents' room alone. Who knew built-in custom made furniture are so expensive? So I get to play designer for my parents' room! I'm a big fan of Japanese minimalism and Muji, so I selected the following pieces for the room. Minimalist Muji Ash bed with high headboard. Minimalist Muji Ash chest of drawers. Minimalist Muji Ash dresser with stool. It was fun playing designer for a room. If I had my way the whole house would be filled with Muji furniture.

There's only one minimalist fan in the market and it's the haiku ceiling fan. Got this for the living room and bedrooms.

Won't be having a feature wall to reduce clutter and to keep the space clean. There are gaps on the floor between each room (living room and bedrooms) to allow the cement floor to expand and contract.

Found my minimalist Sony TV.

Went appliance shopping today and keeping in mind the tiny kitchen space, chose this skinny Hitachi fridge to fit in with the minimalist theme. Straight clean lines and no obstrusive handles on this fridge. There really are no good looking washer/dryer combo washing machines, the only design I can live with is this Hitachi front-loading washing machine. More functional than minimalist.

Reno finally started last month, these are the furniture picked up by the designer. I like the colour palette but the swirly legs of the coffee table aren't really minimalist, don't you think?

Miinimalist master bedroom with walk-in closet. Walk-in closet was ID's idea for more storage and to make the MBR look bigger.

A skinny sofa makes the living room space looks bigger:

Example of a minimalist look with concrete floors, recessed lights and dark wood furnishings:

Yeah I did tell the ID bottom cabinets would suffice, but I guess the cove lights are his trademarks and you need top cabinets for that. Lol

Or I can shorten the kitchen cabinet to leave some space to fit the fridge in the corner, what do you think?

Not at all, I welcomed all suggestions. I don't cook so there will just be a microwave oven and kettle pot on the kitchen counter, hopefully that will help reduce clutter. If you look at my floor plans the wall between the kitchen and living room cannot be knocked, the only way I can enlarge the kitchen space is to knock down the service yard wall, should I?

The fridge goes besides the bomb shelter door. I hate that door actually, can't put anything in front of it, and the kitchen is already so small!

As you can see from the pictures of my flat, all the wires and pipes are already hidden. This is a standard feature of new flats - HDB has come a long way! I also have pure white wall tiles in my kitchen and almost all white tiles in my bathrooms. Even the doors provided by HDB is a nice natural wood colour. Initially I was thinking I don't even need an ID - I just need a contractor to help me lay white tiles, construct white kitchen cabinets and built-in wadrobes and I'm done. Furniture I can choose myself, surely it can't be that hard? But pictures of The Singapore Apartment blew my mind away and I can't help but want the same look. Initially I was a little shocked when Desmond suggested concrete flooring but I am willing to consider other possibilities. After all, anyone can do an all white apartment and call it minimalist, but not all can do the same with concrete. Take a look at the following apartment with concrete flooring, it's different don't you think? http://nicholas-burns.com/_cavenagh/images.html#
