  1. Hi there , Usually for house reno quotation the most take 1 to day to complete ... Unless the contractor is new .. Good luck...

    Nah not really.

Unless the company has a standard format or package, else they have to calculate one job by one job which takes more than a day definitely. Not to mention if alot of ppl are requesting for quotation.

Send emails to ask for quotations are easy, but to calculate and find the best deal for clients is not easy.

  2. Hello,

We've moved in for a few weeks and slowly defects are surfacing. I suppose this is to be expected because you won't notice all of them in the final walkthrough. We have a one year warranty for defects after our renovations. The contract specifies they will be rectified within a "reasonable time."

What's "reasonable time"? It's been over a month since the defects were reported.

And is it acceptable for the ID to keep postponing the date and making promises which are not kept? I mean by itself that's already not right, but the industry is so unregulated, I'm wondering if that's the norm post reno, after they've already been paid, and you have no more leverage over them, so they boh hiew you.

This is what owners are scared of. Once you paid fully, they boh hiew u already. That is why it is important to engage a good ID or Contractor. There are many cases of such incident happening already.

In ur case, if you said u reported to them and nth has been done over a month, this is taking too long already.

  3. I'll be redo everything in my 2 bathrooms. Btw hacking completed n now in the process of puting up the tiles. Will post photos of my reno soon. Find it troublesome to upload pics at over here.

if redo eth, including hacking, lying of tiles, changing of bathtub, installation of WC etc, 2 weeks is kinda very fast to me. hope its not lousy work (no offense but if they engage tilers from certain countries, their workmanship sucks big time!)

  4. Hi, I would like to give caution to customers who would like to engage TEAM ENGRG & MARKETING which did my house reno few months ago.

    1) They said they will only do light works on the first day. To my horror, they remove the cornices without notifying me because I could have taken down the curtains first. While removing the cornices, they broke the bar which is used to hang the curtain. They didn't admit or inform me until I discovered it myself. Only then they went to buy and fix a replacement bar for me.

    2) They quoted me $1.8k to repaint my entire 4 room flat. Not sure if they really paint 2 coats over. Within a few months, I could see the white base on some parts of my wall.

    3) The workers used my toilet (which I didn't use it since I took over the keys from the previous owners) when they were carrying out their works. They did their 'big business' and left it unflushed until I discover it few days later.

    4) They retiled my kitchen wall tiles with have some simple line designs. There was one tile which was placed at the wrong direction which was very obvious if the worker placed the tile one by one. They only redone it after I pointed out to them.

    5) Practically, the lighting switch is always position in the same direction as the lightings, i.e right swich for right lights, left switch for left switch. They did the opposite.

Overall, very unsatisfactory over the work done and the attitude of the workers. Shody work.

thanks for the sharing! so sad for you bro. =(

  5. most ppl see nice pics from reno mag but dun realised that they are looking at the curtain/lighting/furnitures/deco instead of the reno done.....a bit misleading....

which is misleading? the pics? IDs is more on furniture and fixture selections. w/o them ID wont look as attractive. normally ppl don look at the renov quality but more on the nice furniture and color matching. haha.

also, quite useless to look at those mag unless u got budget to spend. not cheap at all!

  6. Well you can't do anyting to the bomb shelter.wait kanna fine by SCDF.

Normally people use it for storage purpose =X built all kind of shelves and cabinets inside. You cant hack or cover it up, but u can utilize the space inside. Also, there are number of ways to cover the door up so wont be that ugly if look from outside.

  7. Anyway, thanks for all the advices. I done up my current house kitchen, and is doing the rest of the place by stages cos I dropped the idea of getting the 4rm resale.... too small and feng shui not suitable...

Did a lot of research and concluded that find my own direct contractor is too complicated to handle, and lots of uncertainty cos if got problem don't know who to find for follow up. Tried initially for my powder room but failed cos very bad workmanship, and never return call after collecting money. So sad.

I engaged an ID recommended by my cousin, and only talk to one person. Better and never regret for doing that. Now doing my study room, next, bedroom 2, then ... ... will post updates when done. Cheers

What do you mean by ur own direct contractor is too complicated to handle?

  8. As for me, I feel that ID is not really necessary. Unless you have totally no idea of how u want ur house to look like, else get a good contractor should be pretty much enough. I agreed that there is no such thing as lifetime warranty. Often than not, once money is paid, they will siam till dunno where. Hence normally I find contractors thru recommendations, especially thru friends or relatives where you can actually see the workmanship or quality. Free 'showroom' for you to view! =D Touch wood but so far the contractor I engaged is very responsible. not to mention, he also know about designing and stuff (just that not into 3D or computer stuff. purely hand sketches) so as for the fees for designing and drawing wont be that much compared to get a pure designer. Lastly, of cos, trust must be there between both parties if not cannot look forward to long term engagement. my 2 cents worth here.

  9. Hi guys!

I just found out about this site and saw many great recommendations and advices here. So decided to share mine. Sharing is caring! :D

Recently I engaged an ID firm (well not purely ID but ID+Renov) called Domeco Interior. Was recommended by my friend. Decided to 'try' them as normally I only trust WoM (words of mouth) for this kinda service providers. They did a minor renovation for my office (partitioning, changing of ceiling, electrical rewiring, changing of signboard, space planning etc). I can only say they truly provide one-stop services (bao ga liao!). I don't have to worry about stuff like Tai-Chi (ie when thing happened, u call one place and they direct u to another place and vice versa). All i have to do is just to call Domeco Interior again and they will settle it. All in all, was very happy and satisfied by their services and support.

I also engaged them to do minor renovation for my house. Changed the tiles for my bathroom (both wall and floor), bathtub, shower screen and cabinetry. Also did for me my kitchen (changing of tiles, kitchen top, hoods and hobs, cabinets, shelvings etc). Never disappointed me yet again. Very good workmanship and professional services rendered. So far no problem (Touch Wood!). Will definitely look for them again if I wanna do some more renovation.

A good ID firm is hard to come by. Heard many scary stories about unethical and unprofessional contractors / IDs. So just want to share and recommend them to you guys.

Note: No recommendation or referral fee hor! Purely just want to share good experience. I don't earn any referral fee from them. So whether you engage them or not I don't get to benefit! :)
