  1. NTUC Income is tough .... the once only cleans are only done on the weekends, and the cleaners speak almost no English. The quality is very varied.

The Clean Homes recommendation above is a very good one if you want thorough .... I've also just gone through the process of emailing a lot of different places. I settled on SG Cleaning Service, and they were pretty good, but Clean Homes is better.

  2. Okay, I got this recommendation for online beds from another thread in this forum ..... I used it, and they were REALLY good. They sell other things, not just beds. Fantastic customer service, on-time delivery, can read website for user reviews, etc. Very good prices! I bought three beds from there, and bed linen, pillows, etc.

Check it out! I wasn't disappointed.

  3. We've had a microwave with grill/bake function for 6 years, and it works fine. We use the grill/bake about twice a month, to roast a chicken or bake cakes. We bought it from Mustafa, but I've seen the same things in Mega Discount Warehouse. Cost was about $300 (6 years ago), and I've seen then recently for $500. I would say they don't last as long as a traditional microwave if you use the bake function all the time, and certainly not big enough to be baking lots of muffins and biscuits etc, but they're pretty good for the occasional user.

  4. Yeah, mind boggling isn't it! I don't know how IDs can charge so much premium!

You sound like you know what you want, and if you have pictures of the exact style etc, if I were you, I wouldn't waste money going to an expensive ID. But, you do need someone who can properly project manage all the work.

What you're doing sounds a lot like what we did.... I chose a very simple ID firm, which is really more of a contractor who does everything. I gave them a clear list of what I wanted, and photos, etc and we got exactly what we wanted. I also tried doing a few things on the side myself because I thought it might be cheaper (ie contacting someone separate to do the doors, someone to do the mosqituo netting, the painting, the curtains etc). What I realised though was that it all needs to be phased very carefully .... eg cannot replace the doors before the plastering done, and must do it before the painting, etc etc, and this could clash with what the contractor is doing). So, I would recommend just go with one person which you trust, unless you really have A LOT OF TIME and patience to coordinate all the separate elements yourself, and also be willing to pay more to fix up things which may go wrong.

I was happy with my chosen firm (which was priced more like a contractor, since they are Malaysians in Singapore). PM me if you want the details! Good luck!

And yes, you can relaminate, or replace the doors. I think replacing doors is a better idea, as they'll last longer and price won't be too much difference.

  5. On a related topic, has anyone attached the sides of wooden crate wine boxes to the wall to make a feature wall? I'm thinking about doing this, and wondering if others can share their experience. In particular, I am wondering if the wood needs to be treated, because sometimes in Singapore wooden items become mouldy, and I'd hate to attached something to the wall which creates a mould problem! Any clues on how I would treat the wood?

  6. I have a bed like this. I got it from Forty Two (a great online Singapore store, by the way). It can be used by adults, although I guess it depends on the type of bed you saw. The one I have is actually called "3-in-1", but it is exactly like what you described. It makes a queen size, not a king. The thing to be careful is whether there is a gap between the two beds when they are joined, and also to make sure that the mattresses are the same height. I would recommend it as a guest bed, not for something you use all the time.

  7. Hello folks .... I have the same question! I've seen a few places onilne (Mr Sparkles, SG House Cleaning, Singapore House Cleaning Services, A-Team Amahs, Amahs on Wheels, etc), but I want to know if someone has recommendations! Their prices vary so much. For my 5 room place, I've been quoted $100 to $500 for 4 hours x 2 cleaners. So, I wondered if someone can give me some guidance....

  8. That is only affecting PR

Citizen don't have buyer stamp duty for resale.

Unless you sell and buy, then you need to pay BSD first then rebate back.

Hang on! Every buyer needs to pay stamp duty. The rates just differ depending on whether you are local, PR, first time buyer, etc etc. The rates are clearly stated on the HDB website, if the purchase is in regards to an HDB.

  9. These days many come with a 5 year warranty, or even a 10, for ALL parts. I choase my washer based on the warranties primarily, not the brand. In the end, I got a Samsung, as it had the most comprehensive warranty for 10 years, including motors, etc.

  10. Okay, here is another idea.... this company called Ministry of Door make very nice aluminium cabinet doors. Maybe give them a call and as the price. I've used them for other doors, and the quality is very good, and they are professional and quick. Have a look www.ministryofdoor.com.sg. ‎

Otherwise, there are plenty of decal places in Singapore. You just need to work out what type of decals you want :) For example, if you want something small, try a company called Art Decal Singapore. Or if you want a full size mural across the whole cupboard, try Creative Wall Decal. Both are in SIngspore, and have good websites to browse. I have bought successfully from each of them.

Be creative and I am sure you'll end up with a dream kitchen. Good luck.

  11. For haze, it needs to have HEPA filter and a good air flow rate ..... think of Honeywell, Blueair, Sharp. Don't get something cheap. Also make sure its capacity is right for your room.

The plasmacluster / ioniser function doesn't really help haze. It is for viruses and bacteria in the air. So, it is a helpful function for minmising flu, etc. Most of the best air purifiers also have an ionising function, and a humidifying function.

  12. If you google about painting laminate it is possible, but I woudln't recommend it. i think ganglong is correct - just replace the doors, or some of the doors... or, have you considerd making them look different with decals? it could be quite unique and cheap.

What exactly don't you like? Maybe post a picture and you may get some creative ideas.

    Feel sorry for you.

  13. Hi all, i do not what choose you guys keep finding ID,to be honest all ID is the same and just the experience are difference, but the most important point is their contractor come from and ID responsibility. if an ID without experience but his show that he got resposibility and willing to listen y dont u let them have a change to try. nothing is imposible is how you work with the ID only. Think of it and dont be haggle over then all the things will be done with happily.

Undergo, I don't think you can seriously say "all ID is the same". Just by visiting a few and seeing the quotes they provide, there is a clear difference there in price, let alone attitude, style, reliability, etc. Also, I think it is important to agree and debate the little things, so there is full alignment, and less room for disputes down the track.... I certainly do not regret doing all the research I did, and I had a very pleasant experience overall.
