  1. spam chop from me too

wah your things-to-buy looks like my wish list leh :sport-smiley-004::wub:

Can go shopping together maybe can get better price.

Sound like you have a good budget to spend for your renovation...I think even though you have friends to help you out with renovation, you still have to be careful because things may become complicated after awhile when comes to compromising and money matter. Hopefully you get a good ID and not a bad contractor like my case...Feel free to post and people in this forum will be super duper happy to spam with feedbacks...haha

Agree, that's why still in touch with Earnest and Home Guide....sometimes things won't be spelt out clearly due to friends, but if got issues.....may turn sour...But my this friend should be OK she knows my late wife too, the boss her big bro also know my late wife....stilllllllllllllll need a backup plan.

    Aggressive budget...spend wisely! :deal:

always when add all up, the numbers look big....some items will buy progressively but.....think itchy hands will still spend, but I do a lot of home work prior to spending, just like my home work for the house design...just my habit.

  2. Hmm My humble opinion. I am quite a particular person when it comes to HiFi, HT...

Best LCD Panel makers are Sony and Samsung, in fact Sony get most of its panel from Samsung.

The acrylic Panel of Samsung is the best in the market.

But the Full HD LCD TV is expensive, I myself is eyeing the 46" currently at $6999 in major electrical store, but I think can get at about $6....hopefully outside and hopefully by year's end price drops

  3. Now on the things I want to buy..

    1. Denon AVR4306 receiver...about $2600

    2. PS Audio A-Trio 100 power amplifier about $1800 or Naim NaiT5i Stereo Integrated Amplifier about $2300

    3. Samsung LCD TV 46" can;t remember the model number but the its the latest 1920x1080 Full HD about $7000

    4. Thiel CS24 Front speaker, yet to listen - $6500 or Sonus Faber Grand Piano Domus - $5200

    5. Sonus Faber Domus Center - $1450

    6. Surround - not decided yet about $1500 to $1600 range

    7. Ceiling Fan...saw this nice ceiling at Parkmall and saw in a US website called G Squared http://www.g2art.com should be expensive...if too ex will drop the idea

    8. Fridge still looking budget $1300

    9. Washing Machine still looking budget $1000

I will forget about toilet stuff, sink, hob, hood for the moment, BUT must have rain shower, I like it so much, maybe pampered by all the traveling in 5 stars Hotel....so nice after a hard day work.

    10. Yes, Oil canvas painting, hmm budget $1000, but if have chance or got time think should go Thailand, sure can get cheap cheap

    11. Saw 1 2 seater in Cellini, about $2000 squarish design not bad and 1 at Castilla 2 seater as well about $3000 which is nicer...will decide later

    12. Lightings as I have mentioned, no fanciful lightings, maybe budget $1000

I guess that's about it....all in all with Renovation at about close to $50k...total will be about $85k....big hole in my pocket come year end, luckily year end got bonus to cover.

Guess have to wait till I sell off my current unit before can think of changing car....sigh.....Civic 1.8 or MarkX or Camry or Lexus IS250 or BMW 323i.......getting more expensive.......scary...luckily bought my watch else have to postpone that as well...hehe

That's all folks, once I get my stupod Imageshack account sorted will post some pictures on some of the items mentioned above.

Any comments are welcome good one, bad ones, sarcastic ones, etc..........

    Cheers

  4. Hi Everyone, I am new to this forum, posted a few general things, thought might as well start a blog to share at the same time keep info for my renovation process.

I am a single parent a widower in fact with a daughter and just bought a resale 3 rm corner unit in AMK will be having 1st appt in early Aug 07 and expecting the whoel transaction to be completed in early Sept 07, so now in hunting mode.

I am quite a frequent traveller since last Nov due to project requirement and thus do not have much time to really hunt, so actually rely quite a fair bit on this forum which I came to know when I Google on ID and renovation.

I been to Suntec a few weeks back on some exhibition and actually saw a custom bedding company and like it very much and actually paid deposit for the yet to be comfirmed design for the bed and pole system closet and I must admit is not cheap, with a good mattress inclusive, it set me back cloase to $6k, but that I would not need to do any carpentry in MBR and buy mattress and bedframe liao.

For my girl, again paid deposit for her Little Mermaid bedroom set with a 2 door wardrobe, a writing desk and a supersingle bedframe and that set me back about $2.1k excluding matress and she wanted the disney princess wall paper and rough estimate for that would be about $800. Sigh.....my little girl.....

I posted a thread " Advise on my layout design or something...." receive a few comment and will post them here as well...the picture I mean.

As I was saying, went to the Suntec exhibition and so happened to meet my ex-colleague and friend known her for more than 10 years and her family is doing renovation business, anyway had already started discussion with my friend's company, she promise to assign a very reliable person, Earnest Interior and Home Guide Design.

As I had mentioned no time to really hunt though a few of you actually recommended me your ID, thanks very much for your input.

So should settle among these 3 companies, quotation wise receive first cut from my friend's company and Earnest Interior, comparable I would say though will never be able to do side by side as materials, etc mentioned are different guess that's how ID firms dare to challenge others quote, a bit here a bit there we as layman not in the industry will not know how the dealings are not, profit margins , etc

Will be visiting Home Guide Design this Sat before flying off.

I would say the house would be about 70 to 80% deisgn by me with 20 to 30% by ID on various elements and of course their professional views as I am not an ID afterall.

Like my place to be simple, clean, don;t like woodgrain, like solid color and those with fine lines.

Hmm would like to have whitest possible Homo for floor, but I guess would 2 shades off the whitest as I learn many problems with very white Homo, gloss black kithen cabinets, off white kitchen top, for hall cabinets, off white gloss with off white with fine lines, no fanciful lightings, just PLC lightings white to brigthen the house.

Whatelse? dull color for by wall where the TV will be mount, no main ceiling light for the TV area just a few downlights..so that the main focus will be on the screen with minimum distraction.

Hmm so much on the general thoughts.

More on the items I intend to purchase which is ALL within my control....hahaha as ID will definitely not have much influence on most of them....I like that....

  5. hi fteocs, i guess becos your thread looks very chim to comment on?? :~

are you in this line? from your graphics and details, very impressive if you are not.. :)

Hi Thanks, I take that as a compliment.

Nope..I am not in ID line I am in IT for 14 years or so.

A detail person, work habit perhaps and actually it is pretty easy to drawing to scale plans like those that i had with visio...i found out after spending a few hours playing with it...hmm not only for flowcharts, etc

anyway just some of my personal ideas, i like to know in detail what i am spending on and like design work,,software of course so itchy fingers for my upcoming house reno.

    Cheers

  6. Hmm over 100+ people view but only a few commented. Wonder Why?

Anyway, visited a few ID shops and found that many in fact all uses LamiTak.

never know these days laminates can be so nice and the edge finishes are pretty neat. Behind time liao.

Downloaded the LamiTak catalog, very nice laminates, 1 ID told me all same price...that's a nice piece of news for me.

you can get to LamiTak site http://www.tak.com.sg/ and view the catalog at your now leisure as part of your research and design thought process.

    Cheers

  7. Just got a initial quote from Exxxx Intxxxxx (there is a separate thread for this ID company). The quote is based on the version 1of my design with a few things lesser than the latest design I had posted.

The total is $41400. Not too far off my personal estimate, within about 3k range.

I guess with the added things will easily another 3k additional.

I had signed up for a custom bedding and closet (pole type) with sliding door for about $6k. with Co'xx xxxx they have a show room in Furniture mall NOT with Exxxx Intxxxxx; which includes 6ft closet with very good material I must say for the poles and sliding door very solid frames, custom made bed, with ordeopedic mattress (queen), shelvings and study table. Its ex but great flexibility in design and closet material is very good compared to cheaper ones, the aluminium is easily 2mm thicker, very solid.

Many thanks to a few members that PM me with their comments and suggestions.

I would like to receive more comments and suggestions

    Cheers

  8. Hi,

I am new to this forum. Just bought a resale 3 rm corner in AMK Ave 10. Will be having 1st appt at HDB 2nd Aug, transaction and keys should be by 1st half Sept.

Am sourcing for ID at the moment. I have some ideas of my own and I had drew them out using visio, to scale.

need some advise and input on:

    1. Design, what do you guys think

    2. Layout ok?

    3. List of task, comprehensive enough?

    4. What do you think the cost might be? Based on your experience

In return for those who are into HiFi and/or Home theatre I can share the speaker placement formula to give you an idea and head start in placing your speakers, of course for those who are audiophiles you would know that speaker placement is only one of the many aspects and need trial and error as different speakers, systems and room acoustic are different, however it will give you a good starting point. If you are using those out of the box mini home theatre then you would not need to go thru the trouble, i guess, no offence.

    Many Thanks
