    Hi Tamcamwan,

I have relaminate my kitchen cabinets to a colour I like. The jointing part has obvious black lines when view close up. According to carpenter, he says it's bcoz he paste the laminate over so it's thicker and thus result in a black gap. If u choose dark laminates, I suppose the black gaps would not even be noticeable. My kitchen laminate is white and I will paint over the black lines once I settle down so I am ok with it. If u can't accept the black lines, then have to do a new cabinet.

My previous contractor did mentioned that the pasting of laminate will not last in the long run... But in my point of view, I will b happy looking at laminate I like everyday then to sulk at the ugly laminate everyday. Just gotto be extra gente n careful when handling the cabinets hopefully can prolong their life span. I try to see if I can upload pics here for ur reference. Damage is $900.

    All da best!

    Hi Berrycherry,

can recommend your contractor as well. Desperately needing to change my laminate coulour for my feature wall and cabinets inthe living room. My contractor is not willing to do now and say that its better to dismatle and make new ...

    Buying fan in JB

Alot of t-bloggers mention they bought their fan in JB which is much cheaper as compare with the price here in Singapore. Therefore it's a no brainer that we should also purchase our fan in JB. So the next day morning, we drove all the way to JB to buy our fan. I have not drove to JB for quite sometime and I didn't know that nowadays the weekend traffic going in to JB can be so bad... We were stuck in traffic for close to 2 hrs just to clear singapore and malaysia custom.

Luckily the return traffic was not as bad cos we decided to come out early to avoid the jam.

When singaporean go JB to buy fan, usually they will go to tampoi lighting. We decided not to go tampoi lighting cos their pricing is much higher as compare with other shops selling fan in JB. Our friend recommend us to this shop, HT lighting at Bandar Baru Permas Jaya instead. Indeed the pricing is cheaper by a few hundred ringgit as compare with Tampoi lighting for the same fan.

We purchased 2 fans, one for master room and one for living room.

Master room fan - White vento fino

    fino 2 WH-600x600.jpg

Living room fan - Aeratron AE3 black

When we finished our purchase, it's about lunch time therefore we scout around the area for our lunch. Found this korean restaurant and decided to give it a try. Was surprise to see some korean dinners inside the restaurant and I tell my wife, I think the food here should be good. Indeed the food is pretty good and affordable. We order their set lunch for 2 persons (RM$95) but couldn't finished all cos the set lunch consists of quite a few dishes.

Fellow singaporean who drop by HT lighting to buy fan and love korean food, can give this restaurant a try :)

Can PM me how much are your fans? I intend to get the exact same fans in your picture both Aeratron and and the vento fino. JUst want to know costing before i decide to go in JB. Thanx.

    Hi guys,

    My renovation is 98% done.

I am fully satisfied with my electrician. He is a flexible guy (in terms of price) and also in attitude. A very easy to talked to guy.

I bought ALL my lightings from TaoBao and some came in batches, my ceiling fans were from Tampoi in JB. He is OK to install bit by bit for me, example my first batch of lights came first, he sent his worker nearby to install just that batch for me, and he told me when next batch of lighting come, he send his worker come to install again. This is how flexible he is.

He doesn't even collect a single cent from me until my job is FULLY done. (You go around see which electrician will do that. Haha)

For those of you who want his contact, please PM me with your Name and Contact Number.

I will link you both up. :D

Just for reference his pricing (per point):

These prices are just for reference, trust me, can go lower

    • New Lighting point: $32
    • Single Point: $45
    • Double Point: $55
    • Install Lights: $10
    • Install ceiling fan: $50

    Disclaimer first:

I understand that many people in RenoTalk is afraid of self-promoting scams.

Due to the fact that there are too many self-promoting contractors, etc, I must say I am not a clone account nor this recommended electrician's self promoting. I am just a satisfied customer and I think I should share around the good work and helping anyone who is looking for a trust worthy electrician.

Just see my past posts and joined date can verify my profile already :D

    Zio,

Can't PM you. Can pm me his contact? Thanx.

  5. Hi,

Your house turned out looking quite nice, Never really thought of that theme before. Looks super cosy. Looks like Mr J did a really good job. You mind sharing his contact? I am getting my keys hopefully in July. My wife and I have an idea on what we want the house to look like so we are not sure to get ID or contractor. But looking at your blog, we might just go for a contractor. Hopefully we can click with Mr J. One more thing, i travel a lot for my work so in terms of visiting and checking the progress i might not be able to do it. Is Mr J reliable enough to be left on his own?

  6. Hi Michelle,

I am not sure which system configuration to get. Will need recommendation. Will like to install aircon for my 3 bedroom and one living room. Living room abt 35sqm(so is 18kBTU enough?) For bedrooms looking at  2X 9k BTU and 1X 12K BTU. Please give me a quote based on various brands/models and the type of piping etc. Thanx.

  7. Hi rapala1982,

Want to ask about your flooring. I have been to floor xpert n evorich and innovar, all offering vinyl at $6-$7/sqft. Did you check  these companies out? Want to know what is the difference between the vinyl? Price difference because of quality or because i was overcharged?? hehe..

Can give me the contact for your ID as well? And a few other IDs that you dont mind recommending so that i can get a few quotes to compare as well. Thanx so much.

  8. Hi,

I am looking to get my own flooring for my BTO flat instead of thru ID or contractor. We want to have Vinyl flooring for our 3 bedrooms. Still can't decide whether to have vinyl or tiles in the living room. Any pros and cons of having either one in the living room. I like the look of tiles, the glossy part but I am bringing my 2 elderly parent in laws and they are not really fond of tiles as they find it extremely cold for their feet especially in mornings and nights. Is there any Vinyl type of flooring that looks like tiles ie. have that glossy stone like effect?

I have gone to Floor xpert, they quoted $7/sqft w/out GST for their belgium vinyl(quick step i think). Like the textured feel and will like to have it in the bedrooms. Got a quote from Evorich also, about $6.90/sqft and theirs is more smooth. Got another from Innovar...same pricing as Evorich but theirs is thicker. Need advise if the quotes are expensive or is it ok? I saw some companies offering vinyl $4.xx/sqft. Is it the same quality?

Or if anyone can recommend good quality vinyl flooring please do let me know. Main concern is price vs quality, toxicity(i have 1 child in the crawling/walking stage and wife might be pregnant with 2nd one), the look(would like to have the 'tile' look or something close to it).

  9. Hey pipsqueak,

I am getting my BTO in Q3 2016. Not sure if its too early to get ID/Contractor but anyways my wife n I are already looking around. We are not too sure to get ID or contractor. Some say contractor cheaper but not very reliable. Some say ID more trustworhty but still depend on luck. Unfortunately I travel for my work so visiting IDs is a bit of a luxury for me. Have been relying on this forum for recommendations actually. From your experience so far is Nick reliable? if he is then he is definitely someone i would like to engage as i cant reallly monitor the reno progress. Do share with me his contact if you strongly recommend him yeah.

Also whats the rough budget for your reno so far? I see that u got evorich flooring. How does the coordination works? Nick will liase with evorich or u need to arrange urself?

  10. Hi,

I am getting my house in Q3 2016. Not sure to get ID or contractor. Considerations for me is of course pricing but also looking at how responsible and reliable the contractor/ID is. I travel a fair bit for my work so most likely i wont be around much to monitor. Based on this, do you recommend your contractor? If you do, can let me know his contacts? Thanks.

Looking at the way your reno went, it looks good. My wife loves the kitchen tiles. Does it come in any other colours as well?

    3D drawings

As you can see from the 3D drawings, I am not doing everything in my apt. I am most focused on my living room, bedroom and bathroom. Living room coz I am quite a couch potato. I like to watch movies a lot and spend a lot of my non-work hours in front of the TV. My bedroom is my sanctuary and therefore, I want it done up very well, coz if I am not in my living room, then I am in my bedroom. And finally, my bathroom, that is the third place I spend time in. I want it to feel nice and comfortable. I don’t cook, so the kitchen is not a big priority. But I needed to do it up as the old kitchen was very dated and did not fit into what I want.

    http://FB_IMG_1459474513110_zpss7dahpq2.jpg

The wall will be much darker, almost black. And I will do away with the floor to ceiling cupbaords. Instead, I will do half height cupboards and create a storage platform in my living room.

    Bro,

I like the design you have. Something which my wife n I is looking to do also. I like the colour but the wife just made me promise not to get these colours. I am a batman fan and if its up to me, would like to have dark cave like colours. Still negotiating for it to be in the MBR.

Anyway i saw you intend to do storage platform in the living room. Is your ID doing it for you or are you getting any other contractor/vendor to do? Possible to share with me the cost ? If the ID is good, let me know as well who he is please. We are not getting our BTO that soon(Q32016) but already started looking for IDs. Unfortunately I travel for my work so have limited time to meet up with many IDs. Will be following your progress. Hopefully all turns out fine for you.
