yup kitchen cabinet is carpentry..oh like that ah. has the carpenter came to ur hse to measure already? if yes..then its reasonable to give the 40%.

if the carpenter havent come, i duno how they can start the kitchen cabinet at factory..

u need to be at ur hse with the carpenter also, so cannot be that the carpenter come to measure himself without u

ya.. tot so too..i told him i'll pay after cny. then he says if tat's the case the project will delay by a few days cos carpentry will only start 2.5 wks after cny (tat includes my kitchen as well)..

yup agree with apple. Its too fast to pay now. And infact till now when my carpentries are almost done i only pay 75% of the reno amount. He keeps asking for chq but my hubby and I are kinda pissed off with all the delays. Since he delays us. We'll delay his payment.

normally ppl will put it in the kitchen cabinet below the hob or in the middle of a full height cabinet. the latter is more recommended as u wont have to stood down to use the oven. in future, when ur wife gets pregnant, it's easier for her to use the oven at eye-level. (<-i designed a part of my kitchen to b full height cabinet for this reason. Must think of future mah.. hehe. )

i also dunno wat kind of concept my hse is.. hmm.. tot it was modern-contemporary.. more of modern i guess.. hehe. my living/dinning rm's carpentry is glossy black with black mirrors.. wallpaper'll be gold-tone-base (plain gold with a little texture as nt to "overkill" my small living area).. sofa's glossy brown.. curtains black/dark grey (still dunno wat kind of colour & material.. organza or velvet?)

btw, here's a pic of my sofa.. will be giving the cushions black-furry-clothings. hehe.

Floor in bomb shelter. the colour is a bit off (lousy hp ).. hehe. this is actuali 60x60 pure white homogenous tiles.. the cement filling is nt in yet. my hubby & i tot the workmanship was quite gd, even without the cement filling.

the common bath's wall taken sometime last week (without cement filling)...

this photo is juz taken. sorry for the lousy resolution. will take pics using a better camera (not my hp cam) in future. hehe. they r currently still doing the floor (wall tiles' gaps are filled)..

the mosaic tiles on the opposite side of the wall is up as well.. but i forgot to take a pic of it!

my kitchen is using the same wall & floor tile as my common bath.. do u think the colours r a little too contrasting?... reali hope the colour goes well with my white kitchen.

i love them a lot too.. hehe. in fact, my id was quite against my living room's lights at 1st, cos he says they may be too loud for his design.. but i din care much less...

i've yet to get the ariston appliances in the kitchen. but they're more or less cfm. wondering if i shd get the oven now though.. heard there's always some "mid-yr sale" thingy gg on during apr/may for mayer where prices r slashed..

handed the keys over to my id on 26 dec & signed the permit application, but hacking only started 4 jan (takes 10 days to get permit?? as so claimed by id.). last sat when i went over, the guys were doing the kitchen wall tiles. bombshelter's floor & common bath's walls were already done. reali wonder how's the works getting on.. prob will drop by this noon.

my carpentry works for the entire hse will only commence after cny. sad..

my sa investments made min 15% returns/yr last 3 yrs with aia. now sa's interest is still nt too bad at 4% (+1% for 1st 40k in SA & Medisave), but come 2010, everything will b tagged to 10yrs SG Bonds. dunno how things'll b then. by then, due to the "tie-down", it may be too late to invest. try to find out more from ur financial advisors/insurance agents. they shd b able to advise u further.

[Any Good Recommendation For Lightings Outlets]

Lumiere provided extremely poor service for me. Went in with my gf, was ignored the entire time. Asked a salesperson about some of their lights there, gave me a curt answer then continued ignoring me. Then an ang mo couple came in, the sales staff immediately flocked to them. This happened to me not once, but twice...

Will never step in there again with such biased and poor attitudes, surprisingly though, in contrast, I bought from their "sister" shop Eurostar, Danny provided excellent service for me.

I'd recommend Chan Huat, reasonable price and I made exchanges for some of my lights 3 times (due to my ID getting his measurements wrong and design changes...) without problems!

i went around many many shops along balestier. like u, i personally think the sales people at lumiere were quite arrogant.

i also went to lightology. helpful & gd service, but price wasn't very attractive.

Eurostar has exactly the same lightings as lumiere & lightology. i would recommend paul for his gd discount & great advises, or danny () for his patience & advises.

however, i do agree tat sometimes it's the salesperson whom u liase with tat makes the impression. it's always gd to shop ard & compare.

i think i've seen these crystallized glass panel top in classic kitchen before. but i was not sure if it was merely sandblasted glass or something else. it does look really pretty. but looks very 'fragile' too. imagine if u drop something heavy... *ouch* how is the resistence like? does it come in 1 single long piece for your entire top?

but wah.. $180 pfr is a heafty price to pay for a kitchen top. but i'm sure it will look great!

thought the norm is usually 10% on work starting, 40% upon completion of all wet works (or delivery of sand & tiles), 40% on delivery of all carpentry materials

and the remaining 10% on completion?

my contract says 10% upon confirmation of reno works, 40% upon commencement of reno works, 40% upon measurement of carpentry, 10% upon completion. sigh.. nvr read these fine prints b4 committing..

my id agreed to reduce it to $25k instead. though nt too much of a diff, but better than nothing. hehe. thanx for all ur advises. =)

i've chosen a crystallized glass panel top (white) for my kitchen top- it's call nero paris if im nt wrong. fell in love with the colour & shine. it's man-made & non-porous. my ID (the interior place) quoted me $180+pf run for it. now reno juz started. will update in time to come if this kind of top is gd.

[Advise Needed For Renovation Progressive Payment]

hi all.

i need some advises. after reading some threads in forum abt contractors running away & job nt done after payment, im quite worried.

my reno works cost ard $60k (wet works + carpentry).

my id told me to give them 50% of contract amount - deposit 2nd day we start work (which is next tues). the thing is, as cny is approaching, all carpentry work will only commence end feb 07, as he claims workers will only start work 2 wks after cny.

is it safe for me to give him so much now? anyone can advise wat the norm is? thank u in advance.
