  1. Hi all, it's been almost 2 1/2 years since we completed our renovation and we have not been active on this forum since. However, we felt compel to contribute once again. We had some issue with one of the hinges of our bomb shelter which is mainly due to wear and tear. Today, we called our contractor Ho Bee and they were fast to arrange for someone to come by to have it fixed. Note, we were prepared to pay them a service fee as the loose hinges it's not entirely their fault. It was only 1 hinge that gave way but they tightened and fixed up all the hinges for the 2 bomb shelter doors. In addition, we requested for a door stopper to be fixed at our main door and they did it obligingly. What really shocked me was that they did not collect a penny from us. We felt bad but was truly touched. Our renovation was so long ago and they are no longer obligated to do all these for us. This is what we call responsibility and also after sales service. Till date, we have not regretted our choice to choose Ho Bee as our contractor and will continue to recommend our friends for their service.

  2. Anybody has any good recommendation on this. The gap between my main door and the floor is really small. Most door stoppers cannot go through smoothly. I bought a weighted door stopper from Zone but it doesn't seems to hold my heavy door well. Please let me know if you have a solution for me

  3. Hi ilmare612 and everyone

I'm new to this forum and chance upon your boutique design home thread. it strikes me immediately as we r thinking along the same concept for our nest.... I'm totally impressed over your house and is DIY!! well done!! may i know how you hv inked your first concept? I've some ideas bits and pieces but not sure if they match.. u knw wat i mean? lol :P

btw you bot voodoo knife block overseas ya, from uk?

Hi, yes the knife was purchased from Europe. For seeing if it matches or not, you have to cut out the picture of that furniture and 'paste' it on your plan to see the match. That can be done with a computer of course. :) Have fun on your process...

  4. I just wanted to comment on Neo Garden's poor marketing skill. They entice customers with the 1st time "no transportation" charge offer. How about their returned customers? Ok, I take it as they are only interested in a one-time business kinda deal.

To top it off, the vouchers and promotion offers they gave away are with tons of terms and condition. Either:

    (i) valid on Mon-Fri only ~ how many of us here have the time to organise for buffet parties on Mon-Fri? Even if we do, how many can make it? As if we do not have to work.

(ii) valid with a minimum order of $350 and above ~ ya right!!!

To me, if you are not willing or generous with your offers, might as well don't give.

Anyone have any good caterer contacts? Someone who can cater to smaller groups say 15-20 pax. I am talking about a few groups of 15-20 pax. Come on, we are all leaving in the newer generation of smaller flats these day. Splitting your groups is the way to go when hosting. No?

  7. Helo ilmare,

got things to ask you.. hope you can help :)

    1) How much u pay for your curtains, and who is the curtain maker - Curtain, we have very long story leh but please don't be like us. Should have gone to Sin Hup Seng Bamboo from the beginning. Ok, here's a quick summary.

~ Day Curtain: HOME's Harmony Bed & Bath in JB as we were shopping there then (approximately $128 for MBR & LR)

~ Night Curtain: Living Room - Mum sewed it for us. Material bought from Clementi Central.

~ Night Curtain: MBR - 1 x curtain and 2 x blinds are from Sin Hup Seng Bamboo. (approximately $500 but that's because it's a friend's father's company). I seriously think they are FABULOUS...not because of the lobang but for everything.

** In between those saga, we have made some purchases from IKEA and Spot Light, in order to save money but we noticed that their length is not right. It is not long enough and we do not like curtain which are 'not long, not short'. Short curtains are even WORSE. A definitely no-no for us. Thus, we abandon our purchased curtains to stick with custom-makes. They are still the best. Really!!!

    2) your shoe cabinet, each slot should be able to put in 1 pair of shoe not 1 side right? - Each unit has 1 divider meant for 1 pair of shoe. Total 25 pairs for my design. Would have made a bigger one if we have more space & budget :P

I super love your house! - Hey, thank u so much with your generous compliment :P I am sure your place looks superb too.

  8. Hi, does your $21k include titling works? Fixtures refering to what items? Thanks

Hi, joschia. $21K does not include the tiling as we took the HDB main tiles for our flooring. We top-up another 1.2K for both our toilet wall & floor tiles, done by HDB. The $21K was during the first closure of the reno with Ho Bee. We added some work along the way. By the end of our reno, our final invoice was an additional $1,760 (after discount) for our wardrobe and additional $800 for our shoe rack. Fixtures and fittings refers to taps, sinks, curtain, etc etc :paint:

  9. Hi All,

Thanks for the contribution. We are begining to see 'light' now.

Why we put our laundry in that room is purely because the sun shines into that room. We thought the sun will be helpful. What we did not do is probably because WE DID NOT OPEN THE WINDOW...for fear that the rain (if it rains) will come in and wet the clothes and room. That's probably the reason why it created that smell...I guessed :bangwall:

We are experimenting now to have the top part of the window open and hopefully this will make those smell go away. If it's still so difficult, I will resume to use the dryer more regularly bah

Pinklady, that method of airing the clothes on bamboo pole outside the window in the night is what we have been doing too. The next morning, we bring it into the room to dry indoor, near a window where the sun shines in. What we did not do is open the window. So got smell lor. :(

  10. Hi leen & yoongf, I have checked...I am also using TOP laundry detergent but it's the blue packaging one for coloured clothing. I walked pass that room this morning, you can really smell it boy! Think my unwashed laundry also dun have that smell. You think if I put the air dehumilzer thingy in that room will help?

  11. With immediate effect, PUB will be increased by 7%. We are happy with our city gas dryer so far but I am trying to cut on small little areas as such. As both me and hubby work in the day and will be back when the sky turns dark...how do I air my laundry? I can't possibily hang my laundry out of the windows as it's been raining almost every afternoon. By keeping the laundry indoor (which we are doing now...we converted one of our bedrooms to a 'laundry room'), our laundry gets a funny smell each time. The kind of smell your mum will tell you "Girl ah, lack of sun lah. Must sun it".

Is there a solution to prevent these smell? Even when I don't get to sun it?

  12. Before they have their webby, there are two emails which they have been operating from. Patrick admitted that he is not that IT savvy. His wife is assisting him with all the IT and admin related stuff. It doesn't matter to us as we needed a contractor to fix our place, not a IT gig. Suppose he knows the power of technology and is hoping to move towards that direction...which is good. You have to be patience with Patrick as he is really super busy. What we needed was a contractor to be good and reliable. I do not mind being patience to get my work done well. Although we just had our shoe rack done by them, our reno is way done about 2 months ago. There were some small issue that needs addressing and he gladly took on his responsibility to have them fix for us.

  13. We have been putting off having a shoe rack due to the tiny space of our home. But we came to a conclusion that we cannot do without one recently. Next question was…to buy or to make? After shopping around, we decided to call our contractor; Ho Bee, describe and drew to him what we want and wala! Our new shoe cabinet is born. It blend in so well with the design of our place that both my hubby and are happy we took the plunge.

  15. Hi ilmare62, the 1st pic you posted....is that gas dryer from citygas that you are having? How do you find it? Can share your views please?

Also how much did that stainless steel backsplash (the wall at the hob) cost? Thanks!

    Hi hairypawter,

To be honest, this is the 1st time we own a dryer so I have no comparism to make from. But we bought this with the understanding that it's less expensive then using a normal dryer as this is a gas dryer. I have not much of complain about it so far accept that it is noisy at some point of time. But not disturbing to the extend that it gives us any stress. hahaha. Hope these comments help :P

The s/steel back splash is S$400.
