Bugs On The Terrace

Hi!

My boyfriend’s new place has a great terrace, but now that it’s summer there are all kinds of flying insects that land on it. It’s on the 16th floor, there are no plants, and no food left there, so what can we do to prevent them from going on to the terrace? We saw mosquito-like insects in a swarm, large ant like insects with wings, and other gross bugs. Is there some special light, spray or something anyone can recommend that will work on a wide variety of insects?
