Finally getting our ancestral home renovated !

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

We have been living in my husband’s ancestral home. It’s almost 50 years old, and it’s high time that we got some renovations done. We have been considering this from the time we moved in here, but was not possible due to financial constraints. But now, it has become inevitable, and we can’t continue living there without renovating the place even though we still don’t have enough funds. So now, we are planning to get a mortgage , and do the necessary renovations to our home. We are planning to take a home purchase mortgage, because our friend suggested that this would be better than the mortgages for renovations. But, what we are worried about is, can we stay in the home and carry out the work ? Or will we have to move out? We are mainly planning to change the kitchen, and bedrooms, so would that be a problem if we stay there itself ? Or else, we will have to shift to some relative or friend’s home till the work is completed . Not sure about this because we have never done any such work at home. Anyone having such experience please share, what you guys did, and how long will it take. Thanks in advance for your advice.
