Surface can be renewed with the use of sanding machine that strips away the top layer, exposing a new layer that can be repolished and resealed.

Some tips I read about wood flooring:

1. Sweep or vacuum as often as necessary to remove any loose dirt or grit before it scratches the floor.

2. When moving heavy object like furniture, slip a blanket or a carpet under each foot of the object to prevent scratching and gouging.

3. Use floor protectors on the leg of your furniture to prevent scratching and gouging.

4. When buying new furniture, pay special attention to casters or wheels.

5. In areas with busy traffic, like doorways or corridors, make use of runners and area rugs. For floors that are beginning to show wear and tear, recoat before the damage is too heavy.

6. As the wood in your floor ages, it will change colour. Certain species of wood, such as cherry, change colour more drastically than others. You should periodically move carpets and furniture to allow the floor to age uniformly.
