How much to spend on a smart home system

I recently attended a course on smart home. Actually creating a smart home is quite simple, if you follow the few steps. Buying of Google Nest Hub, Nest audio, Nest mini , smart  bulb and plugs. 

Cost around $374. Need to see the size of the house for bigger unit, may require more Mini nest to control the room equipments. Think this is only primary school smart home, will try to learn from the 

advance like smart switch and lightings control , gate control . Do you think ID charging additional $2k to $3K is justify?
