  1. LWT you can try MR Albert 94243939 than other contractor, cos he can always follow up ur thing, go to jobsite and give you good explaination. Price also not bad.

Home Design ahh... 1st thing you need to consider is the price lor... Heard from fren, their price is quite $$$

Actually from what i know is, they using the same worker group, like (tiler, carpenter, painter, electrician).

Hmmm, design ahh... sure Home design can give u better Look...

But if you already have a design in your mind, why dont use LWT, they will do actually what you want...

Example, if when u read magazine, if u like that design, can just cut out and pass to Albert, he will according to your floorplan and fix the design in the 3D drawing, If u feel ok... then just proceed to do, If u feel not really match your house space, then can call him recomand or call him design for you what actually suit your house.

Just try to call him, see what he can help you.....

    Cheers......

I dropped LWT...when I visited their Jurong East office, did not really leave a good impression on me....Home Guide is still ok but price is a concern...but I quite like the design and the professional showroom...

I think the best to identify..If its the correct ah soon.. sure can view from T-blog right anot! :P

    OMG! IMPOSTERS!

Should have identify the person in this forum...so that ppl will be aware....

  3. Wah I finally found a little time to read... mmm lemme see

Pink ones are by me. :)

    ****************************************

I reckon I should do one of these in every page of this thread... so that newcomers will not happily ask for Uncle's contact, all rosy-eyed and expect to have a smooth boat ride. I prefer to think of renovation as a month-long roller coaster ride. haha :)

For newcomers, people who intend to renovate and people doing homework early.

    1) All renovation has its hiccups. Simply because we are humans. Some people experience more hiccups, some less.

Same goes for Uncle's clients. Some of us had more problems than others. If you look carefully and actually note down, you'll notice that

it's not consistent. This could be due to a number of reasons... some of which involves Uncle, some not.

    2) Do your homework. Not just which ID/contractor is good on the forum... but as you read, you should take note of little tricks and tips

that people do when they are having their reno... write them down so that you can also do them when it's your turn. Stuff like labelling tile

samples and leaving them in the house, drawing the actual electrical points on the walls of the house, marking crosses on stuff to be

    hacked.... Small stuff.

These will come in useful not just in dealing with Uncle but with ANY ID or any contractor... especially when some of them try to

spoonfeed you with rubbish information. :)

    3) Get as many quotations as you can. I know it's tiring and it's troublesome and sometimes even humiliating... I've been through all that.

But get them. At least 8? 10? 15? I had about 20 I think. I can't really remember and I trashed them. Get enough to convince yourself

that you have seen enough to say that you like the person's mannerism, work style, reputation, workmanship for that PRICE.... so that

you will regret less later on.

I've come across some owners who insist on getting Uncle's contact and want to engage Uncle with just very few quotations in hand. I

advised them against this and really beg them to go get more.

    4) There are plenty of contractors and IDs in Singapore with different range of services, different approach in dealing with people and different prices to offer.

The only reason why you keep seeing Uncle Soon's name around this forum is not because he's the ONLY contractor but simply because it just so happens that a number of forummers are currently having their houses done by him. Please go look through at least 3-4 of the following T-blogs - mrspiglet's, smallboy's, fondue's, familyof4's, ivy's, aubrey's, jesperbg's, ashes02's, Native02's, pinkpetter's, Metalsubzero's, gaku70's, growler's, guy77's, blue_diamond's, apples'...... if I missed out anyone.. SORRY LA... very difficult to remember leh.

    5) Everyone has varying standards of carpentry. What you may find acceptable may not seem so to another person. Don't take someone's word for it. Go see it for yourself and decide if you think it's acceptable. By that, I don't mean viewing showrooms. I think showrooms are trash. They put together the best stuff with a big budget, which may not be what you will be given anyway. Go see someone's home. It's even better if you manage to get the owner while you're there so you can have a glimpse at whether the owner is happy with the contractor. :)

MmM is that all? I hope so. :) lalallalalala

Thanks Pinkpetter for your posts. Finally I hear some objective posts from Ah Soon's client thats comes with no emotion tag!

I remember I came to know about Ah Soon thru your nice blog though eventually I dropped him.

Nevertheless, I still like your reno done and thanks for your wonderful reply.

    Cheers.

  4. ya marvin... i am flooded by all the saliva riaos... haha...

    which ID u choose ah?

I have not finalised yet though after close to 2 months of intensive searches (I also for Cheap and Good ones...hehe), have shortlisted the 4: -

    1) Home Guide

    2) Ideal Design

    3) Mr Yeak

    4) Inzen

So far, experiences with them are quite pleasant and quotes are competitive.

  5. On 18th May 2009, 666 mentioned in his post "I juz became a fan of ah soon group...". Today, 31st May 2009, you mentioned "Well, im not really a supporter of Ah Soon ..."

You further mentioned "I believe his popularity here have caused some "red eyes" here...i knoe sooner or later there will be someone to put him down."

I think all forumers here would like your clarifications. Posting not so positive comments about a firm or contractor means "red eyes" or in which para or sentence that the past threads by the few forumers putting him down? Comments from Ah Soon clients themselves said Ah Soon fly them aeroplane etc, does that means putting Ah Soon down? Bad and good comments, are found in almost all the other posts in the renovation firms sector. That is what a FORUM is all about.

Your statement is worrying, and forumers here may misunderstood that they cannot post anything bad about anyone here.

If you do find GOOD and CHEAP contractors, do post here too. I also have not confirm with anyone yet.

    Thanks.

  6. What there a minimum size required in the toilet to install shower screen?

Can do it in a 1.5m X 2.4m toilet? There is already a shower area with kerb in the toilet, but not sure if can install shower screen  .....

I think I read it somewhere min. is 800 x 800. Though it can be a bit squeezy.

  7. I am still thinking I want to post on this thread or not. Like I said, I believe there are alot of people reading for the threads for these few days, either laffing it off seeing a free show, OR, simply have not plucked out the courage to reply to the thread because it has proven............the saliva from Ah Soon clients indeed will flood and drown us.

Anyone who can read and understand simple English here will be able to read and sensed the nature of the threads. Its self explanatory.

I just hope once again to rest this matter as started by Ncy (Sorry I am not related to him/her in anyway) who did so with good spirit and intent by giving objective views: - (I think I did mentioned in previous threads as well)

Go for Ah Soon or other contractors if

    1) You want slightly cheaper quote

    2) Can have time to jagger and oversee the project.

    3) Knows exactly what designs you wanted.

    4) Threshold level is high for waiting.

However, I personally met up with Alan , do not bother to waste your time, his quote is 30% higher than a reputable ID firm.

    Go for ID if: -

    1) You are a design nerd like me

    2) Can pays slight premium for more attention.

    3) Wants to have an avenue to seek redress for botch jobs (As I previously did mentioned, IDs companies are usually more afraid of bad reputation.)

    4) Needs someone to help you oversee, and he is the only one contact point.

Lastly, we do recognised the good work done by Ah Soon, its seen on all your beautiful blogs. But we just hope you understand that no one is trying to be malicious here. You can read from our previous threads that Uncle is also one of our potential renovators that we are asking quote from too. :)

  8. I read the lengthy discussion in this forum for these few days.

I think that ncy comments are just trying to be unbiased and objective. i dont think she is trying to put anyone down. Maybe the word idolising is wrong. So be it.

To be honest, when I post in this forum, I also have to try hard to think of proper words, otherwise I simply know the saliva from Ah Soon clients (Now, we dont use supporters or fans) here will be sufficient to flood us already.

Correct me if I am wrong, I do sense heated or defensive arguments coming from Ah Soon clients that I think are uncalled for and unnecessary.

As pointed out correctly by you all, we are all here to share our experiences. We are also real people.

I believe we are all here, just or going to get keys to our new homes, embarking on renovation to our dream home. It is a happy occasion. Lets be happy and move on.

I hope this episode will come to a close. However, comments (good and bad) about ah soon can still continue to pour in :)

  9. Personally does anyone here think that this Ah Soon guy is overrated? I mean you get 1 person talking and it starts to spread like wildfire. I am not saying he is not good or his price is unattractive, but what I am trying to say is that he is not the only contractor in whole SGP. I see some ppl posts are like idolizing him like........

I recently got my home done. I cant say I found the cheapest but what I can say is that aft doing my whole home, 4 room flat (86sqm) changing the floor tiles, hacking incl hacking the storeroom and rebuild a new one, painting/plastering, rewiring, building kitchen cabinets, master bdr cabinet and many other more, my bill come to about $25k . And its not Ah Soon. So folks out there, do keep your eyes open for other contractors too. Like mine, he has been in the biz for 10yrs now, no showroom, no fancy 3D drawing or anything, just him, his service, good price and also above all good aft sales service.

I disclaim any interests on any IDs. I initially decided to give Ah Soon a miss since he din respond etc. However, someone called me and I decided to give them another chance, and I met up with one of the so-called Ah Soon asst, and guess what, the quote comes up to higher than an ID firm of more than 30%, and on a piece of paper with no company letter head (thats ok...based on what the rest have said). I left after 5 minutes, DISAPPOINTED!

I agree with ncy that we should stop idolising Ah Soon, and to Ah Soon supporters out there, with due respect to all of u, by loading and recommending him with more projects I think is doing more harm to his reputation, cos he really cant cope and his so called "asst"............really and simply cannot make it.

  10. Yar, I think I have to give up Ah Soon too. Din get to speak to him, only his "asst" or subout....And till now, 1 week plus still did not get the quote or phone call....

    IMO:

Go for Ah soon or other contractor if: -

    1) If you designs and knows exactly what you want.

    2) Tolerance level is high and can understand the standard of services that you will receive.

    3) Slighly (or alot) savings...

No doubt I recognised that Ah Soon did good works at good prices as seen in some of the forumers blog, I guess I am going for ID becos: -

    1) I am a design idiot and needs to be spoon fed.

    2) I cant tolerate waiting and poor response from contractors.

    3) Id allows me to have an avenue to seek redress or complains....(they usually more afraid of bad reputation compared to contractors...)

    Cheers

  11. I agree with stagger. By-passing the sellers' agent after viewing the property that he/she has just shown to the buyer doesn't seem right... If the seller happens to be a family member or friend of the agent and the buyers' attempt to contact the owner directly is exposed, then the situation can be quite awkward. The deal may be jeopardised also.

If buyers are already gonna pay 1% comm to their representing agent, then they might as well get them to negotiate the deal and handle the situation. That is provided this agent is also the capable, ethical and professional type. The more experienced agent who represent you, the buyer, should have some tactics to counter such rouge agents. Will check with my property agent friends and see what they have to say about this situation and share in this thread.

As for the sellers, you pay peanuts you get monkeys. Selling your property involves BIG $, so scrutinise and choose the right agent.

Oh Sorry, I think all along I forgot to add, I am not represented by any agent when buying. One more thing, I think that agent is silly enough......it is simply so difficult to get direct buyers....to earn 2 sides comm.......but they simply dun treasure it...The scenario is talking about is to counter the seller's agent when you are purchasing without an agent.

Another thing, if you are adopting the strategy, like what was mentioned, the relationship can get soured. So, if you are so keen on the property, better dun do it. I use that when I can afford to miss that property.

  12. THis method still doesn't eliminate horseplay by agents who have the intent to do so simply because the agents aren't obliged to play by your rules when there are other bees out there waiting to sting. Only the ethical ones would do it. Correct me if im wrong. Yea the owners can be a pain too...

Yar, I oso think these bad agents, if they come up with those silly tales, they will not bother to give u a rejection notice etc. Best is to write to the owner! Tell them your offer and ask them to call u if they are interested. In that way, they may really know the true colours of their agent!

  13. i think is based on preferences lo... i stayed in lots of hotels.. and had used both the rain shower and massage shower... still prefer the massage shower leh.. the rain shower.. looks good though.. but the shiokness lvl is just not there.. and it is "fixed" as in.. u can't remove it.. whereas for the massage shower head.. u can turn the dial to select the type of water flow u want and u can take it off the handle.. which i prefer.. cos i think i m abit psycho.. lol.. i like to remove it to bathe at times.. lol.. thorough cleaning.. wahahahahahaah

Yar I think I will go for the massage panel instead....hear from quite a few forumers here that they regretted getting the rain shower....
