  1. hi! i'm so excited to start the journey to creating our own cozy home and also to share our reviews and learn from all of you here in this forum!

    --------------------------

    Welcome! Welcome!

actually i don't really like parquet flooring but of cos what do i know? cos everyone has been telling me this prevents coldness when stepping down from the bed every morning. and if it saves money, why not?

i prefer tiles too...clean white tiles...well never too early to start cos there's alot to consider...start early so got more time to think carefully...don't be in a rush to place order, shop ard for more choices before making a decision...always disgusted when sales tell us today's price last day, i will switch off and boycot liao... :fire:

I also prefer cold tiles as I don't on aircon so stepping on it is not so cold. But if always on aircon, parquet is more comfortable to step on. If keep then cheaper reno loh.

Hi guys, shoot me...cos I luv parquet...Tangerinez, your parquet flooring is so beautiful... Anyway, I'm antique and old fashioned... I luv marble, parquet...stuff which is of natural colouring/lines/designs that we can't control..To me, that's the beauty. Mashmallow's broken marble flooring also very nice... But due to $$$, I can't afford marble flooring for my new hse living room... So ex loh....

  2. hey hey, me too bought the sand bag and is surprised when we can't choose the material and colour :o

unless buy display, which of cos is out. Even make trip to loyang, hoping to peek the batch they sending then, but cannot be seen at all

i got the sandbag just before cny and is beige with flower print. the material is not bad, just the flower print not really matching with our house, but still acceptable hehe

High five! The price is too cheap to resist right? I like the current display pc which is brownish green in colour.... At first we don't believe that they are so strict about the selection of colour but the sale person die die won't let us choose yesterday.. So now I can only pray hard for a plain colour one... I also will have a headache on matching it to my theme if there's print.... Which Cellini products u bought? Their things quite ex hor...but my bro just smsed me that I got a good deal and he likes my sofa...That makes my night! I start to like the sofa liao....

  3. Wow!!! The sofa does look very good. How much was it? Can customize to any colour?

I got it as a package... The invoice stated that the sofa including the recliner chair is almost $3k... I think it's marketing strategy... Don't think it will cost that much if u were to buy it alone.. The usual colours that can be customised..I saw red, white, brown and black... We opted black... Got nightmare maintaining white sofa for my previous flat... So no more white or cream sofa this time round... Quite surprise that hubby changed his mind to Cellini so fast... Before going there...he was still talking about Hommage; to get marble dining table and bed frame from there... So now is bye bye Hommage... For me, I'm more than happy to buy everything from one place... Less coordination and easier to match...

  4. My hubby was captivated by the Cellini flow series... so we went to neg with a pretty salegirl about the package price... The rest is history... We bought the following:

    1) Flow Series sofa (3 + 1 recliner chair + footrest)

    2) Flow side table

    3) Flow bedframe

    4) Manhatten Dining Set (inclusive of 4 chairs)

    5) Amphibios Coffee Table

    6) Bean Bag

    Here are the photos:

1)Sofa and side table (We selected full black for sofa):

    2)Bedframe(Q)

    3) Dining Set

    4) Coffee Table

    5459611735_c65d62a8a6.jpg

    5) Bean Bag (Colour unknown cos it's at promo price of $69.90, so no selection of colours)

  5. Sat - 19 Feb 2011

Met up with the Electrician at about 2.30pm to talk about rewiring... Gosh...didn't know that the process can be so confusing... Seem like I got to instantly think of the placing on my standing fan & lamp so that the power point can be at the extact spot and realised that my masterbedroom is indeed small... I can't even place a King size bed! Sigh...

After talking to the Electrician and Henry for about 1.5 hrs... we finally decided on the respective points... Headache.. Henry showed me the place where my vanity top will be... The corner is d.a.m.n small loh...(anyway my toilet is super small).. The vanity top will only be 11" (breadth) which is less that 1ft... which means I got to go to Royal Fanco to change my top mount basin to semi recess basin cos there is no way that the top can accomodate my bowl basin... Sob! Sob! So small and I think I can only put 6 toilet rolls, 1 bottle of contact lens solution plus two toothpaste in the cabinet! Worth to built the vanity top? Also, HDB informed us that my main door shd be 1/2hr fire rated type... Wah lau... The previous owner's door not fire rated door leh... How come I kenan this kind of bomb again... Fire rated cost another $500 extra... Henry did appeal again but HDB said no... Too bad the door throw away liao..if not I will carry it to HDB to bang table and chairs...

Mood super bad after the meetup cos everything is $$$$ so hubby drove to Cellini Loyang to look at beautiful furniture to cool our mood... Boy...The showroom is indeed big and beautiful.... and we feel like buying up everything.... too bad we r not one of the TOTO winners... Sigh...

  6. We are thinking of changing the gas stove to induction hob which is smaller size than current gas stove...hence we got to change away the new solid top...i was wondering what happens next time if the induction hob is spoilt beyond repair and would have to change new...do i have to change the solid top again or the subsequent model of my induction hob will remain same dimensions...

I like induction hob too but I'm not prepared to convert gas stove to induction cos I still like to use Chinese wok for stir fry... So I will still install gas stove and am considering of buying a portable Taiyo induction cooker to test water...

  7. wah... that was bad... but i think it's really unlucky for your case... my hubby was using gas heater all his life until he came to SG... in fact in HK, gas heater is more common than electric heater~

could be due to installation? where you install the gas heater?

Mine was BTO premium flat from HDB. The pt to install gas heater which was in the kitchen was already there when we collected our keys. Installation by City Gas, piping by HDB so I guess no issue since they did it for the whole block... Servicing guy said the problem source is the Gas heater.... The brand no good... but now I too angry to recall which brand liao... They changed it to Rinnai later... They claimed it was better lah but I sold the unit so only use it for less than 3 mths... Can't comment...

  8. then alternative is city gas heater... see, only 2 choices now

I use City Gas heater for my previous Sengkang flat and my hubby and I hated it very much! We experienced cold water on and off while bathing... Best part, it actually broke down during my confinement! Imagine suddenly bathing in cold water during confinement! And City Gas servicing is not cheap. Each time is $50... heater spoilt buy from them still need to pay $50 installation charge on top of paying for the cost of $200 gas heater even thou the change was recommended by the servicing guy... Servicing guy came, just shaked head by looking at my gas heater and said 'Sorry, no spare part for this model. Need to change a new unit.' Just like that $200 plus gone... can't even go other places to compare price...

Now we sweared off Gas heater liao....Maybe we were just plain unlucky but once is enough! Having said that, no matter how unreasonable I was, shouting at the City Gas people (cos that time bad mood mah...everything happened at the same time: just given birth.. cannot cope with baby... bath cold water... short of money...still asked me to pay $$$), the customer service and the servicing guys were awesome! They were very patience, friendly and helpful... Very good customer service indeed!

  9. Lightings

Even though I have been to a few lighting shops to do research but the other day when my contractor brought me to look at lightings, I forget everything that I wrote down and researched. So in the end I bought all my lights and fans at a price which I think it's too expensive, after paying for it. :bangwall:

So for those that have yet to buy lights, try not to go with your ID or contractor. My sanitary wares will be done by myself without him. Don't care what he says.... There could be few hundred dollars of savings!!!

Since I have bought what I have bought from the shop, here is a photo of my light that is costing me so much:

    0f2e330d.jpg

There are a total of 762 crystals....

I know the feeling cos I have experienced it. Bought everything from one shop then realised that another shop is selling 3 items cheaper by $50 - $100 each... Albeit the amt is relatively small, I still can't sleep and ponder overnight... In the end, I called up the shop to cancel the 3 items... Must be thick skinned loh... But for your case, like what u said, just treat it as buying extended warranty from your contractor... Every experience is a lesson learnt... :) In any case, your dining light is awesome! :good:

  10. that's why i just chose to go to the lighting shop right downstairs of my house. true enough, one of the bulbs was faulty... just went downstairs to get it changed immediately. :)

anyway, hommage is nearer to your place mah... just go there ba :)

Clever ger! Come to think about it, yah... the savings might not be enough to compensate the time/$$ spent in exchanging... Imagine u need to travel from your place to Balestier just to change a bulb, I think I wld throw it away... Heng I'm so near both Jalan B and Balestier:) Yah.. need to order from Hommage this week liao... if not cannot make it on time for end March delivery...

  11. Now i feel so cheated.... the downlights i bought was more more ex than whatever you all stated here leh. sob sob....

Aiyah...go with ID/Contractor is like that wan.. They sure must earn a bit here and there wan...That's y my bro said don't go with Henry... Go alone to bargain shamelessly... But on a brighter note, your ID will really take care everything swee swee for u since he recommended it.. He will ensure that your lights is in perfect working cond... u save on time for going here and there if there's defect....

As i know, for french door, there is a certain part of the doors that cannot be dismantled. but he is confirmed it can go through, then should be fine loh. hehehehe... your flat is not as old as mine so your main door might be bigger so not a problem.

when are you moving in? we are quite near to each other. :)

I'm targetting end Mar... if i can settle my furniture... yesterday went S&C... Think hubby prefer Hommage.. This weekend it's Hommage again..

  12. I like your fridge!!! Just that my main door is too small so cannot get this French door type.

Where is royal fanco? Maybe i should go have a look too

    Btw what is ballast?

I wanted Samsung fridge but fell in luv with this beauty when *spam recommended it. The sales person claimed that can dismantle the doors to go in my flat leh when I also express my concern of not being able to fit thru my main door... Royal fanco is just slightly opp a two storey food centre.. Nothing much to see... if not for my bro's recommendation, I will not even step in the shop... Anyway, I very cheapo one... not willing to spend more than $80 on tap, $200 on WC and $150 on basis... If u are looking for 'branded' stuff, maybe not suitable... Ballast as explained by my bro...

Personally , I never visit b4 ... so take this chance to take a look what they are selling actually :P

Win liao... Use my $$$ to see see look look...

i've gotten my philips downlight (2 tubes) at $27 each and i think there should be even cheaper ones around... but maybe your downlight size is different? hmmmm.

i also got my kitchen and toilet stuff from Royal Fanco, the shop has nothing much on display, but they are like Doraemon... once you tell them what you want, they will take out the items one by one from their storeroom, even help you do mix-and-match of the items hahahahaha :) yup agree that the bosses are very nice pple :)

I like to way to describe Royal Fanco. Yeah.. Doraemon...

I got my lightings from Palace Light (Balestier), along the same side of the road as the balestier plaza, after the famous chicken rice, near a junction. My downlights completed with a white 4-5" frame cost $18 each. I bought 16 of them

Thks. will also get them to quote for my particular model. I think I need to buy 16 too... Can save a lot....

  13. Very busy week... Work plus baby also sick... Heng now better..at least me and hubby can concentrate on reno stuff....

Sat 12 Feb 2011: Met my brother aka Supersimon to buy my sanitary stuff and lightings... Three of us (incl my hubby) met around 12 noon to start our day... We walked to Poh Joo Hardware as our first stop. Poh Joo has a very wide range of selection... The person who served us was very helpful and friendly..even when we told her that we will need to go a few shops later to compare prices, she still served us with great patience. Thumb up for great service! Maybe due to the fact that Poh Joo is very popular, there were also quite a no of out of stock when my brother specifically described the designs he wanted.

Then we walked to Lighting.com.sg to see the lights... I wld say the range is quite limited but okie lah... I need cheap lighting anyway... However, I still can't find the perfect dining light that has the punch! So we didn't confirm on lighting... I think most likely I will go back to purchase the downlight, bedroom and kitchen light. I was quoted $33 for each Philips downlight (without ballast). If any kind soul got a cheaper quote, please pm me the store and price... Thks in advance!

Finally, we went to Royal Fanco to check out the sanitary stuff again. Not much of good impression cos the store is so small and cramped! Not much of stuff on display either....BUT the boss Henry and the lady who served us are very knowledgeable. Actually, they carry a lot of brands.. The tap, mixer they recommended seems very solid and are very heavy.. Maybe due to the prolong standing and walking... I decided to buy most of the stuff from Royal Fanco. I also bought my WCs, sink and basins there. Total damage is around $2k... Sigh... these are 'hidden costs' of reno... Few small small items can rank up to thousands too...

Sun 13 Feb 2011: Went *spam to get my KDK ceiling fan... then thru talking to the staff, decided to get fridge from them. This is my fridge: Hitachi R-W691EMS!

    http://www.hitachiconsumer.com/sg/products...s.aspx?oid=2909

Okie... got to sleep... so tired... and many special thanks to my dearest brother who spent so much time with me:)

  14. Went to the shop where my designer brought me. The dining lights is the most ex, 1.4k. That's why total is so much... How many lights you have? Oh also incl 3 fans.

Where you buy your sanitary? I also need to look for a good place to buy those.

Now I know y I can't find my dining light liao... The ones I looking at all less than $500. Yours 1.4k sure got the punch. Mind to pm me the shop name? I need to get inspiration by going to this kind of designer store to see see look look. I went Poh Joo but end up buying from royal fanco... Cos they carry the hood I want.

  15. Went to buy lightings today. Didn't know it can cost so much for all the lights. My heart pain when I saw the total. :(

Where did u go? I went to lighting.com yesterday to work out the cost with hubby and bro, it's about 1k plus, almost 2k I think... But didn't confirm cos we still can't find the dining light which got the punch! Also, I bought my sanitary stuff Liao. $2.5k... Hubby and I almost fainted!! Didn't know that a few taps, toilet stuff can cost so much!!! But I'm lucky to have a bro who does all the research and save time of going here and there.. But bad point is my bro is too knowledgeable liao.. I seems like an outdated fool in front of him... Ha. Ha.

  16. Hi, we are planning to lay new homogenous tiles for our living room. However, recents news reported that several HDB flats owners experienced that their homogenous tiles had popped. Reasons given: expansion/contraction due to temp changes.

Is it still safe in laying homogenous tiles for our living room? or we have to use something thicker e.g. marble ? Thanks in advance for your adivse.

    Regards,

    Jim

I think it's still safe to lay homogenous tiles. My previous Sengkang bto flat tiles popped before. When hdb came to redo the living room.. We saw a lot of empty gaps/holes on the cement flooring... I think they did not use enough cement while laying the tiles so resulted the popping. Hence, I think it's not the homogenous tiles issue rather is the workmanship and skill... Heng, hdb replaced it foc...

  17. Hi may-dream , thanks for liking my photo . At least you r better then my sis .... she din even go in to my facebook to like them ... lol ....

Wah lau... So late still talk behind my back? Busy mah... Can U pls check your fb? I have just left a comment cos I'm only free at this hour to go thru all the posts...Anyway.. I'm not into photography... only into food...Kekekeke.......

  18. really ah? then i better go and have a look before april. saw some stuff i like the last time i went there but then didn't really order anything yet. shall go and see again....

Which items do u intend to get from them? I still can't find my 'perfect' TV console and study table at the prices we want. Those super nice ones r so ex... Hubby was saying that given the price, we might as well order from Henry... As least we can indicate the exact measurements we like. We shall see his 3D drawings to see if the designs are worth the price:) Didn't know that wardrobes nowadays are so cheap... All less than $1k... Maybe baby's room can get those cheap cheap one....

  19. Went to Hommage Furniture over the weekend... The boss and his wife are indeed very friendly and helpful. No pressure selling and even shared with us great tips on selecting furniture... Their prices also very straight forward...No GST and delivery charge. But the boss informed us that we need to buy b4 April as they are registering their business with IRAS on the GST thingy... Come April will have GST... Luv their dining tables, chairs and bed frame.. Think will most likely to get from them after CNY ... Brother asked me to go IFC and S&C to see see look look more choices...

Also went Audio House to check out their fridges and washer... Somehow I like Samsung design very much... Aiming for RT-77KBPN fridge and WF-9904 washer...

Nothing much to update as it's CNY....So wld like to wish u guys Happy Lunar New Year! Huat ah! Huat ah!

  20. Welcome to T-Blog... I'm also a newbie here... Wow... Cool.. U actually bought big bulky items from China?! So u need to arrange for shipping or the company will do so for u? Will it be expensive cos when I do online US spree... the shipping already $50 for a bag...

  21. Went to check the flat yesterday & today. Hacking completed and the stack of tiles we selected were placed neatly in the living room. There were also bags of sand ... The 5 Doors frames were hacked... The hse seems to be very ugly... with big cracks due to the hacking of the doors frame... Also, gate was removed with temp door now set up... Henry told me that the workers have officially stopped work today due to CNY and will only be back around the 10 - 12 Feb to continue... Aiyoh... the break seems a bit long leh... Guess it's the norm for reno to stop work for 8-10 days just for cny? Then we saw the barriers for CV have been removed and decided to go there to see see look look... Wah Lau... there are nice wardrobes in every room of CV!!! Now I regret buying resale cos need to do so much things for reno.... Got to decide on tiles... the layout for the respective placement of fittings... colours...Still need to bargain with contractor. Almost everything.. CV owners are so lucky... Collect keys..put a bit of furniture and can move in liao....

Now still thinking whether to proceed with most of the carpentry works or just buy ready made furniture to cut costs... Didn't take reno loan as the interest is simply 'bo hua' leh so now all the electronic items and furniture will need to take the 0% credit card instalment. Tight budget. One thing good about Henry is, he does allow us to remove items made to the quote we have earlier agreed on. Was telling hubby that maybe we just do the minimum...that is Kitchen cabinets and wardrobe in the masterbedroom and do away with the TV consoles, shoes cabinets, study table, wardrobe for the rest of the rooms and cabinets to 'hide' things... But we will be staying there for at least another 10 years... First flat already never do much... Dilemma... Dilemma...
