  1. Hi, have been receiving a few PMs requesting for my Contractor details. Sorry that I don't have the time to respond as now mother of 2 already:) Kids take up most of my time nowadays. My contractor is Henry. His company is I.D.Note design and build. My project manager is Tony. They are terrific people to work with. Even after Reno, when I have issues like water leaking complaints from the unit downstairs, my sot sot electricity plug and some minor pipe issues, their response were almost immediate. To me, a good contractor not only must do the HSE nicely and also after Reno customer service. They are honest in my opinion. They don't give me excuses like 'yah.. It shd be like that..' and 'it's normal' kind of replies. So if u guys have a budget and already noe what designs u wld like to have, I seriously recommend them. Even if u have no idea, I think they can help u too. Henry can be contact at 9-0-0-7-3-6-8-3. Sorry that if I have missed your pm or didn't reply to u personally. Thks.

  2. Currently using Simmons Backcare series bought from Robinson. Previous flat using Sealy Posturepedic Sapphire for 5 years. Sealy more Plush but hubby had constant backache issue throughout the 5 years. My sleep was often disturbed by hubby's tossing and turning as I'm a light sleeper. With Simmons, I sleep better as not affected by his tossing and turning. Hubby still has backache issue on and off but not as frequent as compared as before. Both mattress is less than $4k. I wld prefer Simmons:)

  3. We have come to almost an end to our renovation. There are some minor accessories to install and the tile to replace.

The renovation journey has not been exactly easy. The initial phase of knowing what we want (the look and feel) to choosing the contractor to choosing the tiles.

It was during the tiling phase where we have some differences with the contractor, then the rectification and carpentry as well. I also think it is because he is handling quite a number of projects as well as having to go for reservist. I find the most lacking is communication. The experience should be better if it is done well.

This doesnt mean the contractor is no good. He did installation of accessories (other areas out of kitchen and toilets) foc for us. Generally, he did manage the time schedule well as we are well ahead of the original schedule. The overall package price he gave us is also reasonable.

I would also like to thank all my supporters here, thank my partner, my parents, my contractor, my pets, my teachers...etc. lol!!

This is not the end!!! I will still come back to post and kapoh lots!!

    Most none zen of me.

Reno is a tiring process, be it mentality or physically. But once finished, you will feel a great sense of achievement! Generally I think most of the contractors here are quite good. There might be a bit of problems here and there but as long as we get a complete house.. I think we are very blessed :) Your place is looking good and even with some of the flooring 'untouched', you have successfully created a new modern look as compared to the place you first took over. It is now cosy, homely and somehow I got this 'muji' concept feeling (Luv it!) when looking at the pics. Most importantly, you and Grace have managed to create this look within your budget and with the right furniture. Well done :thumbs up:

  4. Please dont quarrel here. Give me some face lah hor.

Yes, NeoBY! Will not quarrel here. My post is just to highlight to him about his tactless comments on my friend. Usually I will keep my mouth shut cos it's none of my business anyway. But this time, force me out of the 'mountain' cos I sense that my dear friend is hurt by it.

Anyway apologies to u, NeoBy. Cos more or less is due to my post that he got worked up and start to shoot again and lead to so many subsequent flaming. I won't argue with him since I have made my stand. Paiseh hor... Very sorry again

  5. Thanks for the kind words. Sometimes it is really pissed me off when Platinum Member start coming to attack me out of nowhere. I dont wish to start a t-blog and chit chat sing song to get to Gold Member status. I prefer to offer suggestion or advise that people can use in real life, not bake cake in day dream.

That is very mean of u. It is a direct personal attack. May_dream is just sharing her thots, ideas and tips with her renotalk friends. The purpose of joining in to chit chat is to make friends and share ideas. What's wrong with that? Who says that a T-blog must be strictly on reno stuff? Without renotalk, I wld not have known nice people like her, Mar jie, mashmallow etc... The comments you made were often rude and tactless and I remembered seeing a thread on the electrical hood and hob being suspended. Also due to your comments directing to the TS. When sharing your thots, please at the same time be mindful of others. I know May_dream personally. She has a bubbly, nice and friendly personality. She is only asking you to be considerate to TS and not to hog on the thread by posting/showing off unrelated stuff.

PS: NeoBY: Sorry for using your thread as a platform. Very sorry but I think that is the only way to catch his attention. BTW, I have also a chip-off floor tile in the toilet. It is located near the floor trap and Henry said if were to replace, might affect the water proofing and need to re-do. He used the same colour cement to 'cover' the chip-off which I accepted. Maybe you can check with your contractor the reason of not replacing and how best he can make good of it:)

  7. Just saw your post. My house was mostly managed by Tony. He came across as a very trustworthy and honest guy. He is patient and very accommodating. Your house will be in safe hands:)

    Hi Guys,

    Just an update.

Got in touch with Tony and I guess I got ahead of myself :D

From now till end of March there's sufficient time to prepare.

Should be meeting up with him soon to discuss the details of the reno.

Feel alot better after talking to him and looking forward to my reno!

  8. when i mop, i use floor detergent mixed with dettol.

I use dettol detergent... Scared of the 'hospital' smell leh.....

i use magic wipes to clean hair off the floor.... if use broom, sometimes it doesn't work as well as magic clean. so mopping is still the best to remove the sticky feelings.

i use floor solution from malaysia.... it have a special ingredient in it that will prevent ants and cockroaches.... but i think its not working as well as its said.... but i like the smell and its really very smooth after mopping. i used some others before (normal brands) that i find its not as smooth.

Used to use magic wipes but buying for long term also siong hor... Throw every pcs is like throwing $$$ away... :sport-smiley-018: I bought a cordless vacuum and everyday I just go one round... But I only use the wet magic wipes for my laminated flooring... Don't know how to mop it with normal mop...

8ft wardrobe! haha must be most gal's dream to have big big wardrobe!

Er...8 ft very small niah leh... Maydream, yours how many ft huh??? Ha! Ha! :dancingqueen:

that 8ft wardrobe is at the extra room, not in the MBR. friends78 have big place for big wardrobe... hahaha... :sport-smiley-004:

MBR only got 1 5ft and 1 4ft... cannot be compared to yours... Kekekeke..........

dettol dog will faint?? ok, i dont use

    I faint first... :sport-smiley-004:

Dettol good for keeping the cockroaches n lizards away leh

I have problem with ants... they seems to have obtained PR in my house... How ah?

  9. ya...this one i agree totally. Sometimes when we buy house, our eyes are pasted with stamps. After buying, then i start noticing uneven walls, toilets full of pipes etc. Sigh...moreover, paid a high COV for a original condition house n now have to pay high again for the renovation.

I didn't do plastering of walls as well...thinking just let it be bah....my mum keep asking me if i'm sure i wanna stay there forever...haha...i also dunno leh. I guess its an experience well learned. This moving house has definitely given me alot of white hairs...arghhhh... :bangwall:

High five. I paid $55K COV for original condition as well and I knocked everything down. Reason of buying my hse is because I have only 3 particular blocks in mind cos I want to be near to my inlaws who are the main caregiver to my boy. I do hope to have a chance to move to Condo or landed... So I hope I did not stay in a 4room forever... But seeing the situation now and $$$ getting smaller, I need I might stay in this small flat forever... :sport-smiley-004: LOL

I put into much considerations whether to do or not to do the laminate floorings. I am someone who like to mop and sweep the floor very hard because I am under the impression that if I wipe the floor very hard, the floor will be very clean. Though I like wood floorings, but when it comes to cleaning, I would rather stick to tiles than wood.

I wanted to save money for not plastering the walls, but as you said, this kind of money really cannot save.

U r indeed wise! I have parquet flooring for my previous flat.. But it scratch easily so I decided again it... Come to think about it, I now can live with scratches than constantly worried about water getting into laminated flooring.... Too stressful... Resulted in a lot of unnecessary quarrels over a stupid floor... Anyway, tiles are still the best!!!!!

ya loh... sometimes never see properly then bought the flat. after that only realised so many things.... do you want to stay there forever? i would want to stay where i am if i can.... don't want to move already.

ya ya... same as you.... i prefer tiles than wood cos i like to walk on tiles and its more lasting when do mopping. i don't mop hard but i mop 3 rounds....

Wah...so hardworking... But you got part time maid to do house chores for u hor... I'm the maid... Mop one round can kill me liao....

  10. haha, interesting topic you guys r talking here... the previous owner of my house is an intact family with both hubby n wife still very lovely to each other. but their 2 grown up sons(late 20s to 30s) are still living off their parents without perm jobs. :jawdrop:

i am planning for 4 kids leh.. scary... :o

I won't mind leh... Kids living off their parents = parents rich = got $$$$, that's y kids not motivated to work hard. If i have the means... I won't mind my boy to chase after his interest/passion/anything he likes...

Wow... U planning for 4 kids already... :good: Hope your dream come true soon!

  11. career good and money also good. so only those upgrading to be considered, those downgrading also will not be considered.

Power... Y I never thot of this huh? The previous lady owner work to pass time. She's a crew with McDonald... But she 4-room moved to 4-room... No upgrading...Aiyah.. My next house hunting must have your list as a checklist... I Luv this thread :sport-smiley-004:

  12. My No 1 of Regret is laminated flooring for my bedrooms! Hate the feeling of stepping on 'floating' fake wood. Unneccessary stress cos we have to be constantly reminded how water can easily damage the flooring. Wet mop cannot... cannot play water gun with my boy in the room... Aiyoh...too many 'No this' and 'No that' restrictions. I selected the wrong colour too.... Pearl white... Dirt can be spotted easily... Really hate it!!!

My No 2 is the omission of the plastering of the wall. New owners, this kind of money cannot be saved!!! My walls are very ugly... Even if I were to do wallpaper, May (from MGL curtains) said the uneveness will be very visible too and asked me not to waste $$$. I went to Goodrich )Plaza Sing and The wall paper story (Marina Square) to ask for their opinions too... Goodrich said the same thing as May. The wall paper story said no problem, their in-house people can do swee swee wan. Kept pushing me to place deposit. So u know who are the honest people here.....

My No 3 is the black toilet flooring. Water markings everywhere... But I think it's my problem cos I don't do housework.. Previous flat with white colour flooring doesn't have so many white stains highly visible...

Sigh.... If I have a chance to redo....

  13. Hi Ladies,

Thks. Will take photos once it is completed... Then u guys will know nice or not hor.... The length is about 8ft...

As mentioned in my earlier thread about my 'regrets' list... Now will start to post them since I'm at home waiting for my boy... 2nd day in CC and both of us been crying...LOL! :sport-smiley-018:

  14. Hi,

I'm not sure what is OPSH but all my WIW and kitchen cabinets were from Closet Design because I thought that if I'm willing to pay abit more, I wouldn't have to worry about workmanship and materials etc. Before deciding, we checked out others as well.

When the carpenters came to construct the pole system WIW, my FIL was there to see that everything was ok and he found them to be rather inexperienced from the way they constructed the WIW at the corner. But they rectified it nicely according to his suggestions and all was fine after that.

But for my kitchen cabinets, they did a very sloppy job at the joint of my L-shape cabinet. When my husband highlighted this to the chinese carpenter who was the main person in charge, the reply was "if you want it to be done nicely, the price would be different." I thought that was a lousy reply. We all know that Closet Design is certainly not the cheapest in the market. What is he saying? That I am paying too little? Frankly, I wouldn't have engaged Closet Design had I known they would do a sloppy job and show me this kind of attitude.

Just my personal experience. If anybody is interested, I can take a picture to show you.

Closet Design is certainly not cheap leh... I know it cos it was also in my shorlisted list when I'm sourcing for wardrobe. Didn't engaged them in the end cos somehow they got a bit of the 'Take it or leave it' kind of attitude even thou the saleperson I talked to was nice and friendly..... But their design is indeed the best and the nicest as compared to the rest of the shops that TS mentioned.

  15. Today received call from Henry that the carpenter is free to do my wardrobe...Yes...even the loyal cum returned customer got to wait for 2 mths... Lol! Finally decided to go back to him even thou he charged me higher than Closet design....and his is the normal type of wardrobe not pole system hor.... Uncle Ah Hua came and took the measurements. He was the guy who do most of my carpentry works back then so it's good to have him back :thumbs up: He came up with the drawings instantly... Looking forward!

  16. Hope i'm not too late to wish all Happy New year! Reviving my blog as I will be doing up a wardrobe in my study room after CNY and to update the 'regrets' so that new owners can take note of it... Nothing to do with ID note lah... Sorry guys, not much of juicy news...I'm still in good term with Henry cos my hubby adores him and prefers him to manage when come to Reno but he is the 'behind the scene good guy' and the responsibility of negotiating and asking Henry to touch up/ rectify here and there for some minor work aka as the bad guy is me....

    Stay tuned.....
