    For solid colors laminate, will glossy or matt surface looks better? What are the pros and cons for each of the laminate type?

    I am trying to create a modern comtemporary looks. My kitchen cabinets are grey and my tv consoles n shoe cabinet are grey white. Now I am having headache over my feature wall. Wonder whether solid or wood will blend better.

    Glossy laminates usually look better than Matt but once scratched, very obvious. That is what happens to my white glossy MacBook

    oh I didnt explore this option, cos my mom place was concrete top which I thought its rather old fashion.

    Now I see the pic here, very nice indeed and u said it was cheaper?

    I bought granite 2b sink and to be placed next to my stove, wonder can support or not, my contractor only mention 'woah u buy granite, so heavy.'

    My carpenter suggest putting those thick laminates inside the cabinet under the sink instead of those thin white laminates. They mention it will be longer last and less prone to water and moisture.

    Any comments?

    Frosted & sand-blasted are different.

    - Frosted is basically a sticker with rought surface on one side & paste the sticker onto smooth glass. My kitchen sliding door come with this.

    - Sand blasted is permanent, glass surface is rought. My TV console doors come with this. Don't how it was done, blast sand over to make it rought?

    Actually, if you want the effect like Begof mention, can get the rough clolored sticker from DIY shop and stick but it is not easy to stick for big piece. Small piece ok..I did it myself before...

    If the gate is normally left open.. then the unit number is not easily visible. Same reason for those who stick onto the wooden door.

    Stick on gate also will cost more, since mounting not so easy.

    In general, gate are close mah..The default HDB ones are actually on the gate...Usually, I thought there is a metal plate for people to stick it on the iron gate?

    I think is quite fancy to put the Hse number next to the doorbell. dun need be big big 4 inch type. A humble 1 inch high lettering is enough for the most shoot bird visitor.

    Weird, for those who did wrought iron gate, why didnt they put unit number like those in HDB? As in on the wrought iron gate itself...Instead, they stick it on doors, walls etc...

    Wow lau, simple logic lor, the 4 pillars are:

    1. East - The Green Dragon

    2. North - The Tortise/Snake

    3. West - The White Tiger

    4. South - The Bird

    How can these great "animals" be just covered up with skin/fur only, without real fresh(substance)? Hear of wolf putting on tiger's skin story? Eventually?? Substance must come after its name! Not only the outlook !(hope my chinese-english translation is precise & correct)

    Each pillar has 7 "star groups", so there are total 7x4= 28 "star groups"(二十八宿) covered over the norther sky of the earth. Each star group(total 28) is 1 degree, to 23 degree (varies) apart, making total 360 degres. Why 28 groups? - ancient chinese were really smart ! They assigned each star group, by observing the shape of moon, while the earth revolves the sun one round.

    Long story to tell, go and read books leh. Take time and be patient, it takes me years... Solar July is coming, know why it is the "hottest" days among the 365 days? Lunar July is following, want to know why chinese believed cannot do this & that during this month?

    Although Samsung is the leading brand for tv nowadays, most people still preferred Japanese brand fridges...

    Those who use Samsung fridges, any comment on it?

    As of today, my opinion is Jap still make better fridges but it doesnt means samsung is lousy. It really depends on what exactly you are looking for. For instance, Panasonic inverter is more power friendly than Samsung models but Samsung make good fridge.

    Give another 10 years and I am sure Samsung will lead a host of korean brands which will overtake the japanese brands. Look at their LCD TV technology. When Sharp introduce LCD TV panels, people are asking Samsung who? Now, people are rushing to buy Samsung LCD TV.

    Whoa-ho. I'm surprised to find others sharing the same sentiments as me. Yes, my experience with Mega (I went there recently) left me with a bad experience. It's certainly not the same as what's claimed by the many post here about their price and attitude.

    I totally agree..If anyone dont believe, just drop by United Square and try get the "Special Promo" items once you see the sat newspapers. You chiong down once the shop open and ask for the things also dont have..Haha! Things sold before shop open..haha! I tell them it is unfair because shop just open and all sold out?They give me stupid reasons and are wasting my time only.

    After shopping for electronics for 15 years, I feel the best price and service is those neighborhood stores like Goh Ah Bee, Everjoint. If anyone dont believe, just go check and find out. I dare to say 90% of those stuff they sell are cheaper than all the "so call" megastores.

    The only time I encountered Goh Ah Bee price is higher than Audio House is for one going to discon Samsung LCD TV..We just use rationale to think. Is it possible for shops with lots of salesman walking here and there as compared to shops with just 1-2 sales person?

    i'm not sure. i think you can. but if theres any problem. then have to tear down. carpentry is that price range. but having carpentry in shower area, the wood won't last long

    There are some cheap carpenters to do box up if you just wanna do box up. If you get those project/ ID carpenters to do box up, then have to pay $100-130/ ft due to their skills. Of course, there are direct carpenters in this forum. One of them is Jack from JS carpentry? I saw his name being mention a few times and I believe he is those economical priced ones because his price is direct factory. If you just wanna box up, look for this type.

    I boxed up my toilet pipes for $600 in both common and master bathroom.

    Yours include service balcony. Sounds reasonable to me.

    It is same as kitchen cabinet. Like 1ft of cabinet top cabinet = $100 for example. Assuming u have a 1ft full height box up (full height = top, mid, bot), it will be estimate 3 x 100 = $300.

    I had my door tilt by my master too. I didn't submit any approval leh. So far so far. I notice nowadays many start to tilt door. Dunno if its a trend. But beware, according to friend who study with Vincent Koh before mention that tilt door require a skillful master. The famous one I know is the Bright Hill temple monk Hoong Chuan.     maybe i make it clearer..My 30 x 30cm, he say horrible but the latest batch still acceptable but definitely not up to his standard. The same tiles comes in 60 x 30cm which i think might be better.

    Seriously, I have never seen this tiles comes in 60 x 60 after visiting Hafary and LHS

    wah, that sounds "dangerous", like asking for trouble to use a top for under mount. bc if we insist to use a top for under, contractor oblige but later leak, alot or problems

    so what is the method to do anyway? I always thought that the salespeople are trying to force a sale when they say all sinks can undermount.

    if u email those reputable sink manufacturer such as elkay etc, they will tell u topmount and undermount sink are different. Both are mounted differently. However, seems like in SG, ppl use topmount as undermount too.

    Therefore I think we need familiar folks like Jaskel to advise.
