  1. Hi guys,

I am having issues with my pipe valves. They keep leaking every few months and salt seems to deposit all over the valve.

Every time this happens, I will need to call a plumber to help replace the valve. He doesn't seem to know why this keeps happening.

And, the insides of the valve is like, woah. All rusted!

Any ideas how to stop this? It is getting ridiculous to keep replacing these valves every few months!

  2. Synthetic leather? I don't know about vhive, but the one I bought from Picket and Rail is unusable after less than 3 years. Basically, the 'leather' has all flaked off and torn off.

In this case, just go get either fabric (with removable cover for washing) or full leather. My recommendation.

  3. waterproofing? this has gt nothing to do wif waterproofing fault. if it is waterproofing fault, it would be ur downstairs neighbour who'll be knocking in ur door.

i'm inclined to think tt this is her tiler's fault for not ensuring that the cement screed is sloped towards the water drainage hole, before laying your toilet floor tiles.

if u spend a whole day observing a tiler at work, u'll notice that they do not really use their spirit level to ensure that the floor slopes towards the drainage hole, whether in the toilet or the kitchen, or wherever there's a water drainage hole. nobody does it actually. tt's why u see puddles of water collecting here and there everytime the floor is wet. small puddles over a large surface area is ok. but i think urs is a bit too much. if it's normal puddle, shld hv evaporated by 12hrs. so urs prob not puddle, but rather a mini-pond....

reason wif ur contractor la. tell her if it's waterproofing fault, water would seep down, not rise to the top and form puddles. but before u do that, go and buy a spirit level and check the levelness of ur toilet floor. if it is flat and level, ask her to come and see for herself.

hey good point. nobody has come upstairs to complain about leaks. ok, i'll borrow a spirit level (had to google what it meant) and see how it goes. could it also be that the cement between the tiles is not done properly, so, the water is leaking between the tiles to the area between my new tiles and the old tiles?

  4. Strange. i would imagine that even if they laid over the existing tiles, the contractor would still need to apply cement or some sort of membrance on top of the old tiles. I would also imagine that when this cement and/or membrane is laid it should be applied in such a way that it slopes towards the drainhole. hence, allowing the water to flow in a downward direction. it sounds to me that yor contractor might not have applied the cement/membrance properly and so the water isn't flowing towards the hole. Just my layman's opinion and i could be totally wrong about this.

Thanks! Any feedback is appreciated! Yeah I would imagine it should be sloping towards the drain hole. It is okay at the common bath but not the master bath. So yeah I kinda deduced that's the cause. As for the solution, she did mention have to hack the whole **** flooring off, and relay the tiles back! I am hoping to hear another alternative because 1) it is going to be a HUGE HUGE MESS and 2) it is going to be expensive which, she already said, I will have to cover because she only overlaid the tiles and so, waterproofing not working isn't her fault.

    Headache.

  5. Got a problem with my bathroom. The water does not drain well into the floor hole. Water always gathers around the floor hole, and it can be there even 12 hours later! I suspect that the tiling wasn't done well and the lowest point on the floor isn't the hole, but rather, around it.

Problem now is that because of the water collecting around that corner of the bath area, the tile colour seems to be becoming darker. More accurately, at the area where the water always is.

So, spoke to contractor. Said that water is most probably collecting under the tiles. As I did not hack the floor, but rather, I overlayed the existing tiles with mine, she says that she has to charge me for the repair works.

Firstly, is her assessment of the problem accurate? And secondly, is this really "not her fault" and such, I am the one who has to pay for the repairs?

    THanks in advance guys.

  6. My brother-in-law wanna sell Chiltern Park in Loring Chuan for 1.2 mil for 1600 sq ft ($750/sq ft)

Current on rental lease at $3000, will increase rent to $4000, when agreement expires.

Haha I actually live in Chiltern Park too. But in a 2br unit. Now, finding it a bit small, and if I wanna have a family in future, it will definitely be too small. But, 3BR unit too expensive for me. Shold have bought a 3br unit instead last time when the prices were low. Guess have to shift out to another area.

  7. The Hutton agency's director kept talking to me abt flipping, even showed me otp doc for those units he flip clients. "encouraged" me to get mickeymouse unit to flip. Asked him to fly kite, don't keep talking abt flipping. I just wanted to know among 82, how many has been sold! Info not transparent!. Bopiah, I just fall in love with that plot of land.

Lorong Chuan(Scala) will be another hot cake, similar to Optima.

Scala will be hot cake? But they say its going for about 1200 psf! Uh oh, meaning prices this area gonna go up further??? Have to shift out liao... :(

  8. Anyone here using a 38" ceiling fan? The one I have is useless! I sit directly underneath and I feel a bit of breeze. I sit at the dining area 2 meters away and I feel nothing. Every day, dinner time is a sweaty affair. Getting really fed up and uncomfortable.

  9. This early morning drove to Rambutan Road, somewhere nears Chiku road, to see "Straits Residences" u/c site. Toadya VVIP launching , FH, 30 units, at psf$4xxx. Wow, nowonder at psf4xxx, so cramped. Why all this "boutique" houses built so near to each other?

Oh that area. Back in 07, I almost bought a unit at Fruition. Didn't really like the layout. Then, almost bought a unit at Vitra over at Tembeling Road. But, think too much ended up didn't buy.

So this Straits Residences, 400+ psf I guess, not 4000+ right?

  10. yes i just came back! very pleasant trip even though we were met with flight cancellations due to strikes. Mykonos seems to be rather expensive compared to Santorini (suprisingly). I'm not a partying type, so only sightsee around and took lots pictures. Paros was great, quiet town, and riding ATV up the Mycenean Acropolis hills is the best! We stayed in the tallest place at firostefani, the view was fantastic! you don't even need to pay alot to go expensive restaurants to have sunset dinners, we had wines and breakfast at our balcony:-)

My whole trip cost me 7.7k for 2 (everything inclusive except for shopping lah, and we flew on SQ). Planned everything myself without going through tour agency in greece, because some hotels offer good deals or free transport while agency don't offer that to you. If anyone need advice, feel free to drop a mail :-)

Good to hear! I also enjoyed Santorini more. Not so much of a partying person either. Hope you didn't stuck with the demonstrations going on in Athens.

  11. Eh MISC100, the product you show the photo, that one is remote control. So, no strings in it.

I got mine from Tame also, product 3 and 4. So far no problems. Can't comment on after-sales service cos haven't had the need to call them yet. Touch wood...

  12. I was staying at Blk 55 New Upper Changi Road. It is only one bus stop away from Tanah Merah MRT station, and bus stop downstairs, just three stops away from Bedok MRT. BUT, one huge problem is that the flat faces the MRT track AND the main road. So, you get NOISE and DUST. So, although it's near, I did not really like the place (rented btw).

Before that, I was staying at Yew Tee, Blk 640, CCK St North 6. Distance about the same. Difference is there are two other blocks between my block and the MRT station. So, you don't get the noise but at the same time, it is near the station. And, to walk to the MRT station, it is all covered.

So, when u consider distance from MRT station, please consider the noise factor.

  13. er ya i think mine also is cassonova. blur liao.. :D cos we never "upgrade" to the more expensive one with the big buttons..off to change my sig!

Cassanova is the old name for Magnum. Or rather, they are the same. Because Magnum bought over Cassanova. So if you have problems, the guys from Magnum will come over although your WC says Cassanova.

Btw, I bought this same WC + a rectangular table-top basin for 288 about a year ago from RF. Looks like prices haven't changed much...

  14. In fenshui practise, FSM using 罗盘 could detect “空亡穴“ fairly easily, such houses are called “空亡屋“。

From what I have interpreted from fengshui writeups, “空亡穴“ is essentially the entrance and exit of our dimensions and the other dimensions.

Whether death took place in that house or the ghosts chance upon that spot, the spot is condusive for these beings to stay, not for human stay.

Hence, not suitable for residential purpose. Typical usage of “空亡屋“ is non-profit org operations, like police post, temple, church etc.

For haunted houses, I believe it depends on your own sensitivity to it. Some people make a fortune even when they are staying in a haunted house.

There are some signs that you should look out for when you visit a house:

    - Try to look out for unexplained moisture/leakage marks on the wall

    - The house look dim in the day even if you turn on all the lights

    - You feel a sudden chill/drop in tempreture even during a hot afternoon

    - You feel some degree of giddiness after the house visit (not becoz of the COV asked by the owner :P )

    - The needle of your compass keep turning in a inconsistent manner

    - Bring ur pet dog or young children (not your own :P ) during open house and see how they behave

    - Bring a monk or a toaist priest that has the third eye turned on - you can't miss it.

Buying a house at this current market is quite tricky because owners of some of these "unwanted" properties will try to grab this opportunity to let it go, due to strong demand. Do exercise caution...

If the spirit is a benevolent entity, then you can live peacefully in that unit. It won't bother you, it won't harm you. It may just appear once in a while.

However, if the spirit is out to harm you, mentally or physically e.g. choke you, play with the lights, drive you crazy, then.... better get the f*** out of that place before you really get hurt.

  15. im going this sunday. I booked my tickets in Aug 2009 on SQ. researched for very long before we decide on the hotels we want to stay. Olympic air having promo, so try to get flights to get to mykonos etc. The price difference only about10 euros more than ferries for some promo. I'll be heading to Athens - Mykonos - Paros - Santorini - Athens. We should spend about not more than 8k for everything inclusive of meals (exclude shopping).

Hey! You are going right at the beginning of the summer holidays, so hopefully, no drunk English blokes in Mykonos yet. Also, cheap Euros for now!

    Enjoy your holidays!

  16. One day, a man was driving his car along a winding and mountainous road. Along one of the bends, he saw a man standing by the side of the road crying. Curious, he stopped his car and came out to talk to the man.

"Why are you crying?" the man asks.

The crying man said "A bus just drove off the cliff and plunged into the sea below. It was full of real estate agents!"

The driver laughs "Hah! So why are you crying then?"

Between sobs, the man replied "Because there were still two empty seats in it."

  17. Rent a car and explore the islands. For Mykonos, it's mostly party, party, party! As for Santorini, you can check out the red and black beaches, look around the towns of Fira, Firastefani, Ia... and you can consider taking the boat across to the volcano for a trek up the mountain.

  18. hi by the way how l;ong is the flight, is it a direct or is a trans

I took Qatar Airways so there was a 2 hour transit in Doha. However, if you take SQ, I think it will be about...9 hours or so. Not too sure. Singapore to Dubai takes about 7 hours. Singapore to Amsterdam about 13 hours. So, somewhere in between.

Btw, I dunno how to post pictures ler. Haha. But there are lot of photos on google. Much nicer photos than what I took on my point-and-shoot camera :D
