  1. Hi

Would like gather some feedback on this model. We like the physical appearance, esp the handle bars which feel matte rather than the typical icy cold metallic touch.

But we are wondering about the quality - can it keep food cold enough? How does it compare to European brands like Electrolux?

Hope users of RT59QBSL can provide some insight.

    Many thanks in advance!

  2. Hi

We are looking into a custom-made altar for worshipping Buddha and Earth God in our new flat. But we are not sure which is the ideal location. Attached are the pics of the various options:

    Option 1:

Build the altar against the wall right beside the main door entrance. This would mean we will have to seal up the existing kitchen entrance and re-create the kitchen entrance at the other side. But with this, it will seem that the stove will be in line with the new kitchen entrance and if I'm not wrong, this is not a good stove location right?

    Option 2:

Build the altar against the RC wall and we are also looking into using the excess space beside the altar as counter top looking into the kitchen (only the bold line representing the RC wall cannot be hacked, but the remaining wall can be hacked). But the altar at this position

seems to be facing the wall at the other end of the living room coz there is a small wall separating the windows. Is that still ok?

Anyone can advise which is better or any other alternatives if the above 2 options are not good?

  3. Hi

My hubby and I just went to Ideal House to request for a quotation for our (coming) new 5-rm HDB flat.

We received the quotation in about 3 days, but I was really surprised that on my quotation, it was stated

that carpentry works only carry 1 year warranty, compared to masonry and tiling works which carry 5 years

    warranty.

Is this typical of Ideal House? So far all the ID companies we went to gave either 2 years or 5 years warranty

    for ALL works.

Past clients of Ideal House who have done reno with them a few years back, how is their workmanship of their

carpentry now? Am just concerned with the 1 year warranty given on carpentry. Otherwise I personally feel ok

    and comfortable with them.

    Appreciate your advice. Thanks!

  4. Where do u wish the buddha to face ?

ok, i went through ur initial post n gather u wish for the altar to face the living room windows... The ideal place is actually near the glass partition u intend to build but u worry for the obstructed view. Actually, y u worry abt the view being blocked ? If u cannot see outside, ppl outside also cannot see u...

Well, I mean to say that I do not wish to block out totally the glass view by placing the altar against the glass panel wall.

Coz we want to be able to see who is coming thru the front door but yet we don't want pple outside the corridor to see right

thru' our house (coz we are used to leaving the main door open for more ventilation).

This is what I worry about the obstructed view...from the inside of the house, which we do not want. Otherwise we wouldn't have

intended to build a glass partition instead of whole wall.

  5. Just a suggestion...seal up the original Kitchen entrance and open a new entrance near the Shelter area. Place your Buddha beside the Main door facing the Living window.(this is the best position.)

Are you aware that Buddha/Goddess should not be facing/place in front of the dinner table, this is disrespectful as we are eating meaty food as Buddhas are Vegetarian.

Do you know the direction of all corners of your house? What is the Main door corner direction?

Yeah, I also thought about this location as an alternative to the other choice facing the dinner table, but not sure if it is ok ooz the altar will then be against the wall from which behind is just the corridor and possibly shoes may be placed (?). Of course we can try to keep shoes inside the house (in shoe cabinet) but in the event when there are guests, they usually leave their shoes outside the main door.

Pardon my ignorance, but I didn't know praying altar shouldn't be placed in front of dining table. Many thanks for the reminder and tip.

Whole house layout generally is North-South facing.

  6. Hi

Attached is my 5-rm floor plan. Am looking to build a small full height cabinet to place a Buddha statue.

Would prefer the altar to face the living room windows. But where is the ideal location?

I intend to place a glass partition slightly after the main door but I do not want to block the view thru' the

glass panel, hence I don't think I would want the altar to be placed against the glass partition facing the living

    room window.

Am thinking if I can ask the contractor to build the cabinet along the wall between the dining and kitchen, but my

hubby is concerned about ashes etc if the incense is burning while we are having dinner.

  7. Need some advice. I am looking to install either a half-height glass window along the wall separating the dining and the kitchen, or a rectangular cut-out with glass window. But according to my floor plan, there is a slight thicker black boundary drawn as part of the wall (if I'm not wrong, it means some main beam/structure of the block). In that case, can contractors/ids still hack this wall to fix the glass window?

  8. Hi

Anyone knows roughly how long HDB takes to complete their inspection of the newly built BTO flats?

Does HDB have to complete inspection of all the units before they can grant the keys to us or can they do in batches (i.e. inpsect say x no. of units, once inspection of x no. of units done, release this x units to owners to take possession)?

The BTO project of my new flat has just completed all the heavy construction works (i.e. last crane has been removed), now solely concentrating on painting and window works (and maybe some interior works). Project has about 500+ units.

I wonder how long more we need to wait before we can get the keys...

  9. Hello KovanKitty, i can seriously tell you all the above that you have mentioned is of no use. Becos i was once a victim of this too. Cannot contact the previous owners at all, he NEVER CHanged his adds. Called the police so many times, they splash paint over the wrought iron gate, plants, next door neighbours, locked up the door etc...So many times. We pasted the notices outside the door. I asked my brother to call the Loanshark number, ALL NO use. Paste paper saying we are not the one owning money, tell them also no use.

Until finally 1 clever CID managed to stop all this, i think he caught the runners or something like that, we are not sure. becoz CID also never really gave us the full story. anyway, a few mths later, it was peaceful. after that it came back again. Called police many times again. then i asked the housing agent to give a call to the owner's brother and keep on disturbing him throught phone calls. Finally it stopped and it have been peaceful for quite long liao.

Below are a few useful tips of a tell-tale sign of a RESALE Flat kena visited by Loansharks

    1) Dry paint near the surroundings of the door and entrance

    2) Look for paint near the neighbours, like for example, next door, same level, the upper and lower floors directly.

    3) Interview the neighbours, but dun trust them 100%

    4) Insist and check with HDB when purchasing the flat and submitting documents, that the seller have changed his adds, and that it is correct (also not a fool-proof method)

    I empathise with ur situation.

This is so unfair to us buyers - we spend so much time and effort looking for what-we-thought-would-be our ideal home, spend $$$ on doing up the place and to think what we get back in return is a coat of new paint and relentless harrassment few months after moving in.

  10. if you know where the new owners are and if they go away to malaysia or something that you don't know? and which loan shark will hear from you or read from your wall? I think they will just splash/paint and go...

I'm hoping I won't see fresh paint near my resale apt too :D

Whether they will listen and go find the previous owner at his new addy, I don't know. But at least I know I'm doing something to help myself, rather than sit back and watch my door become multi-coloured or wait for the police to do something (which I don't know how prompt they can be on such matters)

  11. It will be nice for HDB to do that but they haven't been that helpful in this area... and what you're saying is only for new borrowers... you never know if the person borrow from the loan sharks one day before he change the ic and then after the hand over, the loan sharks start to chase for money...

Yes that is true. But if we could now have the new addy of the seller, we could direct the loan sharks to the correct location. Some may think this is unethical, but to me it is even more unethical for people to borrow from loan sharks one day and move out of the place the next day just so that other innocent people who move in could pick up the pieces for him. One 'good' deed deserves another...

  12. Hi

I'm new here. Raised this topic of loan shark flats as I understand it is a very real concern among resale flat buyers.

I'm also looking for resale flats and I really hope I won't be so unlucky to end up buying one loan shark-infested flat.

Do u think HDB can help to mitigate by having sellers show documentation proof that their ICs (as well as those adults living in

that particular flat) have been changed and that the change is a perm one using laser print? The cost of changing to a new IC can be borne by the buyers. Well at least for me, I don't mind to pay for them if I know such measures could help give me

some peace of mind instead of getting 'surprises' 3 months down the road with new paint jobs on my door.

Appreciate everyone's feedback and tips. Please feel free to discuss in here for everyone's knowledge. Thanks!
