  1. ultimate sian now... but i am thinking... if PE deem its ok to hack off the storeroom. HDB shld approve it ma... :bangwall:

    hi Natgw

IMHO, before you consult a PE to try, at which level is your unit? if you are at the higher floor, chances of approval will be higer. Any beams at this area? well if you can part with a little money, think you should give it a try.

  2. Hi All,

The ceiling of my mbr is uneven as the block corridoor / passageway is just above my unit. I am concerned whether this constitute as a beam.

From what I know, the width of a beam is usually around 24cm. But this drop-down at my room is quite wide (around 1m).

I read some articles off the net where they consider the drop-down a beam only if the height (or drop-down) is more than 13-15inches. My drop-down is around 4-5 inches.

My bed postition will be underneath this area. May I check with you all, whether this is consider a beam?

I have attached the picture below for clearer understanding.

    Thanks!

    hi there (Rasp)

hi....i know nuts about fengshui...but structurally (from your photo) i can tell you that it's not a beam. I believe that the drop is due to the fact that above your unit (directly above), near to your window area, is a balcony for of the upper floor.

  3. Yalor, it's one good decision we made! My contractor feels that no PE is necessary but HDB says otherwise. However the bedroom wall which I also hacked doesn't requires any PE. Apparently, the kitchen wall is thicker (12cm compared to bedroom wall of 9cm) and is a reinforced concrete wall, hence need the PE.

    hi Tuababy

to my knowledge, PE 'chop' is only needed where there is a RC (reinforce concrete - and only non structural element are allow to hack) portion that you want to hack. Why PE 'chop'? well it's wat HDB wants, to have a 'responsilbe person' aware of the situation. and ' touch wood', if any thing where to happen (which will not cause if it is a structural element, HDB will never allow you to hack - from your plan, those that are bold in black, are structural wall), some one 'professional' to take the blame.

so as to say, drywall, brick wall and light weigt block wall can hack without PE endosement (those in your plan that is not bold).

well the market rate to get a PE 'chop' for this type of simple endosement range from S$ 250 to S$500.

so wish you have a smooth reno.

  7. Not much progress in our renovation this weekend. The carpenter is fabricating our carpentry work for this week and the coming week. Will be installing the carpentry next Thursday. Soon we will be able to see our kitchen taking shape with the hood and hob, ovens and sink installed. Will post some pics next week... :dancingqueen:

Yesterday we went down to S&C furniture to see see look look since it is highly recommended in the forum. Who knows we ended up getting our dining table and chairs from the shop! We managed to find the design and material we wanted in the shop at half the price we saw elsewhere. Only con is that there is no display set for us to refer to... have to decide based on the catelog.

Just now we went to Royal Franco at Jalan Besar to buy a mirror for the common toilet and a hanging rod for the kitchen. Indeed the prices there is reasonable and the service is pretty good.

    hi little devil

new areound here...where is this S&C furniture shop? care to share?..thanks

  8. A big joke was that we did not realise that our bed frames were all spoilt after 4 years' of usage. Things today really cannot last. We have made last minute order @ S&C for a king-sized & queen-sized bedframes. The female boss told us they had received many orders lately maybe due to people rushing reno b4 7th lunar month. Keep our fingers crossed our delivery will not be late. If not our new mattresses will be lying on the floor for dun know how long :dunno: . But S&C service oso thumb up :thumbs up: .

Oh yes b4 i forget we highly recommend our movers - The Helping Hand. They are very prompt, charges reasonable and most importanly they are very professional. No complaints about the many boxes & bulky items like fridge, washer etc they need to move. They helped to dismantle our bedframes to realise they were spoilt and so helped us to dispose them. Our old king-sized bedframe was transport from old house to new one to realise inneed to be disposed off too. And i have to mention both our ex-home and new one are not @ lift level :good: . Anyone need their contact can pm me ;) .

    hi pbtgal

would appreciate if you can share the contacts of your mover...Please PM me..thanks

  15. To add on to what pridilaw has said, the system the contractor used is farrell from preference, model no SLF400.

    http://www.preference.com.sg/cms/index.php...2&Itemid=34

They are using 12mm thick glass instead of 10mm for obvious reason.

hello Pridilaw (sorry got your name wrong first time round) and Bodo

thanks for your reply....it really help....am considering of using it...but again got to discuss with CFO.....my wife hahaha

    appreciated..

  16. Wah.... I like your sliding glass door, care to PM me the quotation for the sliding door?

    hi pidilaw & bodo

am new around here. like your glass panel concept....thinking of having that too, to segregate between my dinning and living room. got a few questions to check with you. are all those glass panel supported from the top? wat is the estimate weight of each piece of panel? is it easy to open and close them? are there any securing latch below on the floor (cos it might not look so good with so many holes drilled to the floor) or are there any build in tracks on the floor? if not how do you prevent them from flipping sideway?

would appreciate very much for helping me understand better on the glass panels you have installed.

    thanks

  17. Hi all.. new around here...am here to look for design, reno ideas...didn't know there is a parenthood thread...a few good move....thumbs up.

well...wanted a gals all these while....actually wanted the first born to be a gal (cos i am the eldest in my family...would love a 'big sis' to take care of me...just like my boy...but no luck...).hahaha...
