  1. Hi Jane,

Thanks for the tips.. certainly look like a busy and tiring trip.. but we r not shopaholic so wont spend much time.. just some window shopping on certain area..

if my wife and co can buy those 'labels' at other places, i think we can just skip ginza.. lolz

Anyway heard that OSAKA CAstle not that nice.. just go cos it 1 of the attraction in OSAKA.. i think Himeji castle and temple is much better.. but i got no time for that.. :(

Are all those shinabashi, umeda, dotonbori and the shopping streets and shops u mentioned near to the train station?

As for osaka to kawaguchiko station night bus, it cost 8.5kyen.. the prob i hope to buy it in advance but the website all not user friendly.. haha(too jap) :P

AS for sumida ride, i still figuring out how to get to the ferry point near the tsuji market den from there to asakusa..

    :)

  2. Yokoyoko,

Correct mah...you see, your glass door is 3 feet by 7 feet, the dining wall is 8.5 feet by 8.5 feet. 8.5 feet = 3 feet + 3 feet + 2.5 feet for the width. As for the height of 8.5 feet, cannot go into lift. The lift height is slightly more than 7 feet only. As such, each piece if you go by the lift will be 3 feet by 3 feet or 3 feet by 4.5 feet. If go by stairs, it can be 3 feet by 8.5 feet.

hehe.. like that den correct lo.. Full length mirror shld be cool.. btw yr tiles selected? black shiny 1?

  3. Our dining wall is about 8.5 feet by 8.5 feet. If by stairs, it will have to be split into 3 pieces. If by lift, it will have to be split into 6 pieces. I chose going by stairs & I was quoted abt $1K for a black mirror from a mirror supplier by stairs.

    :sport-smiley-003:

is it? cos i did a kitchen door(sliding glass) is abt 3 feet by 7 feet.. neber cut.. but my kitchen 1 is cut into half cos is 4 by 8 feet(my id said need to cut cos slight bigger cannot fit into our lift :().. and is done by using lift.. so in this case.. by lift don need to cut so mani pieces ba.. maybe need for proportion reason.. :dunno:

Any one done big piece mirror? any views?

  4. osaka to kyoto : using local train, no need bullet train, 30mins about 500yen

if u only visit kyoto one or 2 days, then it is ok to stay at osaka. but u can also choose to stay kyoto, saving time and transport cost.

osaka to hakone : using bullet train at least 16000yen and change 2 trains.

from hakone to tokyo : using bullet train at least 5000 yen

cost saving : use overnight bus from kyoto to tokyo. stay few nights at tokyo. then use a odakyu hakone 2 day + 2 way pass 5500yen to go hakone for 2 D 1 N...then back to tokyo again. saving at least 8000yen.

Going there at the end of the month.. now figuring out the transportation cost.. de rest i had cal.. 300plus for accomodation, 160 for theme parks(USJ and DL/DS).

Need yr valuable advice on my final itinerary from OSAKA to TOKYO.. please give me guidance on the most economical mode of transport and the cost if possible and any wrong planning.. Thanks in advance.. It will be long.. please bear with me..

Day 3: Will travel to Kyoto: Kiyomizu Temple(East) and Kinkakuji(West) before returning to hotel and take a night bus to Mt Fuji Area(Kawaguchiko sta).. Need advice on how to get from OSAKA to KYOTO and Kawaguchiko sta? (any english site to book ticket in advance?) by night bus.. save cost :)

  5. yokoyoko & frederick_chia: Thanks for the tips!

Guys, is there an NTUC near where we live huh? I know there's Sheng Siong and Shop N Save. Just wondering where's NTUC. Still a bit not used to the Sheng Siong concept. It's a bit like a wet market that's air-conditioned. :P

gt.. sheng siong is blk 209.. shop n save is 215.. ntuc is at 212.. is at the centre of the bedok central.. where on top gt sell 4d/toto..haha

  6. yokoyoko: So from what you're saying ... if it's just the 2 of us, we might be better off with instant heaters, eh? Again, I don't quite believe the water vs wood theory. Plus the bathroom has windows to ventilate off the water moisture. Maybe becoz I'm quite particular. I like to be consistent. I find it weird to have a whole house of wooden doors and then all of a sudden, a door made of acryllic. I really detest those plastic type of bi-fold doors or PD doors. Coz I've been using them for years and I really think they are not very reliable.

erm.. i m using storage myself for this new unit.. hahah.. i mean stating de diff btw de 2 heaters that cater to one needs.. :).. i try storage cos i neber try before.. n my friend using joven n he say pretty ok but they gt 4 ppl so quite exp in term of bills...

As for the wooden door frame.. i neber c before.. so cant give comments.. maybe like choose a colour close to wood feel to improve?? if nt i think yr contractor/id can help in this area... :) Bi-fold n pd doors might look unreliable when using.. look flimsy.. but should be ok ba.. cos a lot of ppl using.. n doesnt seem to have prob.. maybe if i unlucky.. den too bad... haha

  7. I have 2 questions here that I'd like to have your opinions on:

    1. Instant heaters vs Storage heaters - Hubby and I are still pretty undecided as to which to pick. I really don't like the idea of the big drum thing stored in the common bathroom. I was told that this is the only place where we can put the storage heater, and not in the service yard. Yet I was also told that instant heaters will have piping everywhere which might be ugly. Okay, that's for design aspect. What about usage aspect? Can I have a feel of the pros and cons for using instant heaters or storage heaters please?

    2. PD Door vs Bi-Fold door - Like some of you here, we have also decided to change our MBR door. But we like to go for a uniform look as the other doors in the other rooms (ie. the wooden feel), I was told that if we do a PD door, the frame of the PD door have to use aluminium, so even if I get a wooden PD door, I have to use aluminium framing (which is not nice). What about a bi-fold door with a wooden material? Anyone tried that yet? Or are there any alternatives???

IH and SH, is depend on whether u need hot water for your basin tap a nt and of cos the cost of yr electrical bills(that will depend on yr famil size and hw often u using it). If not instant heater is a gd choice. :).. For the ugly pipings, will onli appear if u install it on top of the bathroom door/service yard. If u install it at the shower area.. den its ok..Storage heater might required longer time to heat up -- abt min 5 mins... some people say joven brand can store their hot water til nxt day.. don noe true a nt.. IS will be u need to purchase 2 if both bath room need to have hot water bath...

PD Door and Bi-fold door will be not much of a diff.. Diff is PD door can keep it door 'nicer'.. .. better don take wooden door for bathroom(u should understand wood vs water theory).. lolz..btw PD doors gt a few designs to choose from(some of them are quite nice if nt u can choose a colour that match the wooden door?).. as for normal usage, bi-fold door is good enough.(Ard 80 - 100 bucks cheaper).. but i think its noiser..

I don have techincally knowledge on all these.. but i guess its hw they cater to our needs... and will be easier to decide what to buy .. if not will be real headache on decision making... :)

  8. Err, if I follow his method, my tempered glass shower screen is @ risk lor..... so I'm can only fix a bi-fold or PD door that is fixed @ the other side. How much did you pay for your PD door? I also thought of taking out our service yard door & cannibalised it to replace the MBR toilet door, but the labour cost is also about $200, in addition to the risk that the service yard bi-fold door gets damage in the process of tearing it out. If it's damage, then I still have to source for another door in additional to the labour of tearing the service yard door, ie, $200 + $280. :dunno:

PD door can fix at the other side.. i m doing now.. i not too sure of the cost.. is the package.. but i think is 280 if i not wrong..

Call and check http://www.pddoor.com.sg.. they are the man..

For bi-fold door, my parent hse installed 2 doors for 220(so 1 is onli 110) i think.. i ask them and c they still gt the contact a nt...

  9. Nope, Yontat said to come down just to fix 1 door, it's $280 cos they need to coer their trpt cost. But if I make 2 doors, it will be $200 each. All need not dismantle the original frame. My kitchen door is oready part of the package.

Like that better don find this yontat.. daylight robbery... haha.. try flipping newspaper.. got a lot.. 100 plus to 200.. i called before.. :) anyway.. y don consider Idealsmith idea? save $$.. i regretted to install PD door if i knew of that superb move... :furious:

  10. Hi, did you get the PD door or normal bi-fold? Did you also do it for the MBR toilet? How much? I got quote from Yontat for a normal bi-fold door @ $280. Also noticed that you have paid for your TV license. Think I will pay for mine only after my renovation and after I moved in.....hee hee

$180 or 280 is abit exp.. but is this come with dismantle of door frame? then it will be different story.. my parent hse install 2 doors cost about 200-220bucks.. w/o dismantle door frames..

other factor might be the quality of door?

  11. I think it to cater for your own design limitation. However maybe yokoyoko can come in and enlight you. He himself is kinda of expert in this joven stuff. think he research quite abit before deciding. We shall "suck" his knowledge!

    NO! I demand durian! :dancingqueen:

Kidding lah. Anyway tomorrow nite, i will go to cohiers unit and see see look look. :)

Maybe sat got any outing, let me know hor! :)

I am so excited! Those who didn't know, i got my deferment from HDB to produce ROM cert and will be getting KEY!!!! YEAH!

COngrats! LG Boss.. lolz.. i no expert in joven heater la.. i just went to POh joo and compared btw Ariston and Joven.. Joven gt 6 more yrs warranty den Ariston.. so i picked it.. although they are diff country brand but i don go for branded haha.. The vertical and horizontal designs i asked the lady SA, she also don noe.. confirm not the size.. cos all same litre.. maybe is how the water flow and aid the heater.. thats y it cost 5 bucks more..

  12. Lunch or teabreak if it weekday. I work around there. :)

    Sure..on yr hse.. hehe

Congrats! Wah, envy ... i still waiting for HDB to reply sia...

my HLE and opt to purchase have expired and still no body call me, i oreadi email then hopin for a KIND REPLY!!! ... btw, whats the procedures like for key collection? is it signing of Lease agreement is one date, then collect key another date? what about stamp duty eh? need kind advise from you guys : )

    jason

HLE i think can extend if u tell them(no point re-apply).. Email them can take ages.. call them if possible.. i kept pestering them that time.. and somehow it works.. for me is signing lease n key collection on the same date, the duty stamp thing they will cal and charge to you.. don worry.. :)

  13. Haha, no wonder. I actually went to Hoe Kee the other day and it was an unhappy experience. Thot since got forumers recommend, better dun bad mouth. Anyway, I went on a weekday afternoon and there were no customers in the shop. I went in and walked around alone for 5 mins before a guy in tie approached me to "assist" me. His way of service is most weird and bizarre.

There is always bad SA ard in spore service industry.. but we consumer has a choice.. don buy.. hehe.. c is their bread or PMS impt lo.. haha.. i neber went there even it is just oppo poh joo.. btw there are ton of hardware shops along jalan besah...

and those who keen on curtains.. at Eminent plaza on jalan besah..(oppo poh joo branch).. got a curtain maker - MGL curtains located on 1st floor.. i haven went there.. my friend got it from there recently.. whole hse 5 rm somemore 688bucks! i cant comment on the quality and package cos i neber c.. but will pay them a visit soon.. for budget ppl like me, can consider.. :) think there got nice food oso.. hehe

  14. Tanjung Katong shopping mall. - i think.

Yes.. Tanjong Katong Mall.. there is one Big Hoe kee store there(http://www.hoekee.com.sg/locateUs.shtml).. where Jimmy textiles and etc curtains shops are there too.. I believe they do sell heater oso..

But please avoid Hoe kee hardware shop at Jalan Besah.. try making a search in this forum u will understand why..

Alternatively, u can try poh joo at jalan besahhttp://www.pohjoo.com/contacts.html.. or other forumers here may have cheaper contacts.

For lightings, its better that u walk ard in balestier, Jalan Besah and Geylang yrself(chan huat, light craft and etc).. alot of lights c until eye pains.. :).. spotlight i believe is more energy wasting than PLC light...

There is also a chelsea lighthing(http://www.hotfrog.sg/Companies/Chelsea-Lighting_1028946) at jurong east that are well-recommended in this forum if u don mind the travelling... not for man utd fans oso.. hahaha

  15. wah yoko

yeah and ur heaters pxs are the same as what was quoted

i oso think so.. cos i don think i will cook often and not those branded type.. so go for the most wu hua package.. haha.. :)
