  1. Bro... how big is your Giuko? I saw these at much lower price but I guess yours is L size? http://www.interior-deluxe.com/product_inf...1-pendant-light I am interested in this one... how much you paid for it?
  2. Normally I only work on other cabinets when I move in after a yr or so..... bec that is why you need to squeeze some space out for storage. I would advice only do necessary built in (if really have to). As for lights.... can always buy later... no need to rush one. Also lighting point also impt... make sure dont drill many hole on the ceiling bec you only need about 50W of PLC to light a rm... dont let your ID dictate the lights. They normally over do it......
  3. Wow... a bit ex but hey it is original and looks great. Will last for generations.
  4. Looks like the garment is increasing our population to 6M regardless if housing has shortages. If you look at the land bank data from the developers.... it is dwindling. So even if land is release by garment, it will all be leasehold at suburban prob 2010..... However by 2013, we may seriously have a shortage bec developer had postpone lots of development in 2009 and 2010. But I think people should ask what is the motto of HDB... to provide affordable housing or to maximise gov revenue. THe supplies of public housing is directly influencing the private housing prices.
  5. Herbs... I not sure. Go GCS to get all the info you want.... show me when they are done...
  6. If you go this way... pls do not repot, it will stay dormant for a yr ie no flowering. I suggest you just buy a nice pot and sit it inside. Spray it with water every morning and fertilised once a week. Make sure there is some light. DO NOT OVER WATER... ie if you see water draining out from the original pot, drain out the water..... If you buy those common small orchid, you can try semi hydro after flowering.... usually people repot it when there is no more space in the pot for further growth or repot after every 3 yrs..... BTW, I novice hor..... so I also experimenting Enjoy... if you want professional advice, go to GCS forum.... plants nuts over there...
  7. On the soil part, you may need it if the plant is currently planted on soil. Then you got to do semi hydro.... bottom 1/4 with leca and transfer plant together with soil. The water indicator seats at the bottom of the pot. Note that the pot has no holes. The leca will serve like a reservoir of water for the plant.
  8. Hee hee it was an art work commission from a digital print.... I got it from one of the shop at Holland rd. Can't remember the name. I got to say the material used is very good quality. Impt for art piece is the oil paint they use.... lousy ones got a shine over it..... this one anti reflective type and can tell took effort to give it a 3D effect. Think paid $1k....
  9. I think either nursury is fine.... else I suggest you go to THomson and visit the row of shops. They will advise you. I started with Ikea pots and plants before moving to more exotic plants... finally setlling with orchids. You can also get leca in the nursury, try to get medium size ones if you go for smaller pots. about $4 one packet. Soil also about that price depending on the mix. Pots from Ikea is $3-$4 ea.... plants $1.50 - $10. Stand $10 ea... fertiliser $3...... Cheap lah.... just do it. Gives you a a sense of achievement after setting it up. This hobby quite addictive.... you may find yourself suddenly buying plant after plant.
  10. Cost is less than $150 for starter.... cheap cheap. Usually you have to put water indicator to know if the plant need water. Well most of the time, you need to water sparingly twice a week. I use fertiliser on weekends. You can also use slow release type which you embed it in the soil. Most impt for plants is balance of sunlight, water than fertiliser depending on plant type. You should try Orchid as well.... I started with small ones.
  11. OK.... for hydroculture plants, you normally see them in offices Leca is the best medium for most plants. Charcoal I use it mainly for local breed of orchid but i also put leca too... but that is to make it look nice. You just need to add some fertiliser when you water them. For orchid, I add them once a week. For leca, I buy them from Far East Flora bec I am lazy to shop. But you should be able to get it cheaper in chao chu kang, wholesalers. But since you experiment.... no need lah. Do u have a nursery near your place? Just go and check them out. I am sure they have some potted plants on hydro for sale. You can ask them to recommend you the materials needed to start this hobby.
  12. I suggest to use AR111 downlights... maintenance at those height is no joke.
  13. Hi, I got big area to do..... I am really interested. What is the cost psf? Thought of putting recessed lights too. Any recommendations?

    Outdoor Awning

Hi guys I am looking to put up an awning in the terrace. I saw my friends' ones with the clear type but it seems to radiate too much heat. I like the shade of those canvas type but would not mind to sacrifice for some heat in exchange for nice awning. Does anyone knows which material to use? Thanks
  15. Well... I will post once I start the reno. I learned of this when I saw my buddys' dads 80's designer furniture (Knoll etc) are refurbished and reused in his new house. THese furniture cost a freaking bomb now from Space... and thus inspire me to do the same bec my daughters can use them next time or for my retirement home. No point to built in unnecessary stuff except kitchen and wardrobe.. IMHO. Maybe this has got to do with age.....
  16. Thanks.... I skip the ID this time round since I know exactly what I want. CD is too ex... though I got to say Mudian workmanship is very good. My old house feature wall took them 10days to spray and polish... and of course cost quite a sum. This time round, I will reduce all built in and not make my house too "ID"ed. I want it to look like a home, not showflat. Take the money and spent on some good quality furniture and lights is the way to go. After 2 apt... time to make good use of the money on stuff I can bring along and last a long time.
  17. Bro, may I know the cost of the stair case rails? I am looking to replace mine.... I thought of using glass but your railing looks like a good compromise of modern look and practicality. Good choice and taste.
  18. With seeds.... i think not possible. For herbs, I think you need to try semi hydro instead. No harm trying, plants will adapt to survive. If it works, let me know... I will try out at my new place... hee hee. I think you try both but I reckon herbs thrive better under normal drainage. So choosing the right plant is impt. Best is to go to nursury and ask the gardeners.... you get plenty of info and can narrow down your experiment.
  19. THanks... are youres ceiling recess type? Was looking at the newer ones from Light Craft..... apparently it can achieve equivalent lumens like a 13W PLC with halogen color tone. THis will make the house look good without the heat. Still checking out the price....
  20. Hi, may I know anyone use this solution for their homes? Looks good and save a lot of energy.
  21. THe pots and stand are from Ikea.... cheap cheap to experiment. Total cost less than $100 for the whole look. What I meant is hydro culture... definition below Hydroculture is the method of growing plants in an inert medium with water and odourless fertillizer rather than soil. Hydroculture is easy, clean and you have greater success in raising healthy plants. You can tell at a glance when your plant needs to be watered. It’s simple! No more over or under watering therefore fewer plant losses. I also did semi hydro for orchids and they are doing fine. You can go to Island at THomson to buy the hydro plants and repot them to get the look. Semi hydro is doen a bit different.... water reservoir below with top soil. I did this bec the plants I bought came with soil..... THe best is to get those plants oredi hydroed then no need soil at all just using clay pebbles as medium. You go to nursury and check these out.... no all plants can do hydro. You can see it here http://www.rv-orchidworks.com/orchidtalk/a...icle-11-12.html
  22. Thanks... using semi hydro for less maintenance. Staying in private estate does help to prevent thieves from stealing small pots of plants. I will usually rotate the pots inside and outside to change the appearance. Very cheap and good way to change the look in the house.
  23. If you go PJ.... false ceiling is a must. So if the ceiling is not higher than 3M, the room will look cluttered. I once saw someone put the projector on a built in shelve right at the other end of the wall above the sofa. I think it is ok but too close to the screen. Unless the living rm has more than 5M of depth, I wont put PJ. I am also more stereo than movie buff, so big screen not most critical. Most impt is neat and safety.... bec got toddler. Next house also got depth constrain. Think only 5m.
  24. shoes so close to dinning table? Also feature wall and suspended cabinet passe liao.... try to design something moveable using natural wood like oak. Go take a look at poliform and B&B Italia. Furniture should try to get movable ones..... the built in ones just too rigid and wasting of money. Your lighting plan looks sufficient. Try to mix down halogen with florescent to give you flexibility for differing mood, esp your living rm bec ceiling has white light, down should use halogen to give ambience esp hosting. BTW, the pendent light also passe liao.... go take a look at Flos for the latest trend. Dont have to get the ex stuff but there are always replicas. You could also use built in architectural lights for dinning area to make the house look bigger. Take the money and buy a nice standing flos light better..... can be a discussion piece when friends come over. lastly try not to built in lights to throw onto the wall from the furniture..... it is really really outdated IMHO. Take the money and spent on a Philip Stark would be a better investment. Hope I am not too critical. BTW welcome to the east! Enjoy your reno
