  1. I'm fine to receive letters intended for my ex-tenant and ex-owner, as long as it's not Ah Long visiting my house.

Risk of renting: Tenant can use their letters with our mailing address to change their pink/blue IC's address, and then borrow Ah Long with our address.

Why am I scared of Ah Long? My parents' next door neighbour flat has been haunted by Ah Long since 8 years ago till today despite of changing owners 3 times. The first owner's grandson borrowed from Ah Long multiple times. I pity the subsequent owners.

  2. I think he is much more better than that Dr who converted to Singaporean 3 yrs ago.

Wondering, is it due to PAP invite him for tea. That's why he converted.

At least "Secret weapon" do NS. This DR say, he has save alot of baby. That is same as doing NS. :furious:

So, next time, all Dr can use this as excuse. I save life. NO NS for me. B'coz that Dr say so

This DR received good pay for saving babies!

Compare to the pay of NS man, 'one is heaven, one is ground'.

At next GE, we may get Pinoy MP liao haha.

  3. A sudden appearance of "secret weapon" is not a good thing, especially just returned from "oversea". Should have more public exposure, as much as possible . He should contect in GRC, together with heavy heavy weight figures in a more WP-pro constituency, eg Aljunied or East Coast.

Goh CT from NOL, pulled Lim BH from NOL, now Lim is retired, Parliament will be filled with ppls mostly from NTUC & MINDEF, why like that? Quite worrying should real emergency breakout, what will be their finall decision and action? Bye bye singapore? Should have more ppl background like Teo SL, from private sector.

PAP loves pulling people from MINDEF & NTUC, they are deemed to be more obedient.

Employees from civil sector are drilled by management to be too black and white, and follow red tape. After some time, one will deteriorate in critical thinking skill after too many years in civil sector.

During emergency cases, you see them crafting out long-winded procedures with boliao documentations, and noone dares to give approval and sign on them! By then, precious time is wasted and civilians suffer on the street.

  4. Unless opposition having >51% votes in parliament, otherwise ALL legislation changes will be passed one-way in favor of the ruling party. What to do? "since voters have authorised" the ruler to do so, as what the ruling party has always said.

What we hope to see, at this juncture of time at this present global settings, a few seats (say 1% of elected MPs= 8 seats). The present Eleventh Parliament has 94 MPs consisting of 84 elected MPs, one NCMP and nine NMPs. NCMP & NCMP have no voting rights in parliament.

What the 1% can do?, besides acting as "bridge" between constituencies and gov. Experience tells gov turns a deaf ear to what the elected opposition MPs have said/feedbacks.

Opposition has very limited given resources. Look at the existing 2 opposition constituencies' town councils, they have done pretty well under present's political environment. Look at some PAP-led TCs, lost $ in some investments. From the actual history of "planting a tree" episode, one can tell how difficult oppositions are to survive, not mentioning "to do something" with ruling party's policies and network of political influence. My salute to oppositions. Of course, only to the ones deserve due respect & salution, not the brother-cum-sister team.

I agree that Oppositions have limited funds to maintain their towns. Somemore, each opposition member must fork out >10K deposit for standing in the election. They also face risk of being invited to lim kopi by ISD.

Irony is although PAP town councils have more funds than Opposition town councils, I observe that Potong Pasir and Hougang towns are cleaner than some other towns that are managed by PAP! :P

  5. I may get a chance to vote! :D Yesterday I saw opposition party's brocedure entitled "Voting is secret" on my gate LOL.

None of my MPs is walking around. Recently, I only see foreign workers electing new concrete frames for posters along the road! I think these foreigner workers deserve the 15K salary more than my MPs.

  6. sis,

i feel for you. i thought i already jialat. yours seem like more worst. i hope all goes well for u!

You are lucky to have such a sweet, understanding fiancee. :) Jiayou! I wish everything goes well for you too. We cannot control the events but we can definitely control our reactions to them.

Honestly, my siblings and I do not pity ourselves. We are still much more fortunate than people who are suffering from terminal illnesses and victims from natural disasters.

The 'intensive training by our dad' has gave my siblings and I certain amount of inner strength when facing difficult situations and difficult people. Yeah I still cry sometimes but I will be able to laugh after it :P

  7. thanks for the reply.

downgrading to a smaller unit looks like a feasible idea. but the problem i am afraid might surface later on is that my parents will not then b able to pay for the downgraded house's installments, and bills as they are not currently working. tapping on my younger brother who is currently serving his ns is also not feasible as he is not earning much from saf.

about the COV and renovation, i might have just sufficient to survive as my finance totaled with my fiance will be around 6k per month.

but in the long run, i still foresee having to support my parents. ultimately, they are my own parents.

I see your point. Your parents may have no cpf to pay for the next hdb's instalments, and the same problem will return to your family. Then the only solution will be for you to buy a hdb, and let them stay with you.

I'm going to face the same issue as you when hdb 'force sell' my parents' house probably next year. My dad purposely withdrew so much money from his OA account until no cpf money left to pay for my 2 younger sisters' uni school fees and pay for housing loan instalments. My dad hasn't been paying for household expenses for more than 10 years. My dad is a gambler addict, we all think he is forcing my mum to sell off hdb to get his hands on more money to feed his habit.

    Solutions for my case:

    1) 2 sisters (still studying) + mum + brother (working now) will stay in my house. My hubby will not mind but my MIL is very traditional thinking, she will surely make big hooha about it.

    2) My brother buys a hdb with my mum to stay. My brother's gf is still studying in uni. I doubt they will want to ROM so quickly. Problem is we don't know whether his future wife + future inlaws will mind about her staying with our mum.

    3) My brother add his name to parents' hdb to use his cpf OA to pay for instalments. Same problem as 2) will result.

My mum did not want to talk about this hdb issue when siblings and I approached her. She said that she only wants to discuss about it when hdb knocks on the door. I guess this is how my mum keeps her sanity throughout these two decades.

  8. hi all,

i am very confused about the whole situation i am in now. thus, i am seeking advises from you good people here.

it came to light that my parents have not been paying the house monthly installments of about 800/month for the past 2-3 years as both of them have been out of job. as i am the only working person in the family, i was told to include my name as the 3rd owner to settle the arrears and installments henceforth. it will be a heavyload for me considering hdb will wipeout my whole cpf, and i still have to continue the installments alone.

however, after much talks with my friends and fiancee. is it a feasible idea for my parents to sell the house to settle the current problem including the snowballed arrears? at the same time, i will get a new resale house with my fiancee? my parents and younger brother will then stay in my to be purchased house after they sell the house.

in the long run, after my brother finishes his ns and my parents get a new job, they will then be able to purchase their own house.

    pls advise. thanks!

I am sorry to hear your parents' situation. I applaud your commitment to help your parents solve their problem.

Many of the hdb owners, who have difficulty paying the housing loan instalments, sold off their current hdb and downgraded to a smaller hdb in cheaper town to pay off the snowballed arrears. This is the common solution adopted by hdb owners, who have difficulty paying the housing loan instalments.

Does your financee get along with your family members? They will be staying together for years. If there are conflicts, you will be sandwiched in between.

Do you have enough cash to pay for the next house's COV and renovation? Are you relying on your parents' sale proceedings to help you pay for your resale house? If yes, they may not have enough cash to pay for their 2nd house's COV and renovation. Note that your parents may not be able to get any loan from HDB or bank due to their age years later.

  9. wow, you all have really good memories to dig out these old old newspaper reports~ :D

just noticed that i have never heard of many of the MPs in that top 10 quotes... all those unknown names are from big GRCs....

It's ok that we don't remember each and every MP names (There are total 87 MPs!)

We just need to remember the correct spot to draw the cross on our voting slips :D

  10. 3rd May 06 - Lunchtime Election Rally

"Right now we have Low Thia Khiang, Chiam See Tong, Steve Chia. We can deal with them. Suppose you had 10, 15, 20 opposition members in Parliament. Instead of spending my time thinking what is the right policy for Singapore, I'm going to spend all my time thinking what's the right way to fix them, to buy my supporters votes, how can I solve this week's problem and forget about next year's challenges?"

    ======================

    Buy votes??? WOW!!!

Yeah man, buy votes using Singaporean taxpayers' money and not his own money.

    Funny idea here http://blogs.straitstimes.com/2011/4/1/the...ers-grc-dilemma

    GRC = buying onions?

  11. BTW, this MP. No one like him.

His eye looking at the sky one.

I think he is the one that say sth which offend the temple at his area. Until don't know is ah Goh or Ah Lee come and settle for him.

This news only appear in chinese zaobao.

Strait time, no news no report at all

What happen after he offended the temple? I am curious to know.

I also read TR often hehe.

  12. my side confirm + crop + crop got opposition come.

Hope this round their % goes up better than 2006 GE. Best take over.

This round, my side 2 MP retired. The one who say [every time I look at my CPF statement, I feel I'm rich] took over the seat.

I will make sure he know I don't feel rich when I look at my CPF statement. :curse:

    Haha I know who...

    LS_ : Better, betterer, betterest!

No opposition is coming to my GRC :( My vote is very itchy.

See the way PM replied to a NUS student: http://sg.news.yahoo.com/blogs/singaporesc...231901-526.html

  13. WOW

    forgotten.

    We share the same mind

    Which son?

    That Dear Uncle Teo? :D

    High Five! :D

Side-track, I saw you wrote [The MP famous quote "sacking Singaporean elderly workers and replacing them with foreigners in his constituency" ] at the other thread. Now father has dragged son to join in the million-dollar party leh, his son is one of 6 MPs for my GRC. Some opposition, please come to my GRC, I don't want walk-over!

  14. No doubt PAP has put Singapore on near top of the world. However, too many policies set are one-way, irreguardless as to education (Tony Tan has said before : 2 Uni are enough for singapore), cpf, public/pte housing, commercial & industrial pty, gst %, immigration, foreign labourer, coe quota, "merit system", casino, NEA, PUB, URA...etc etc.

    - Only "elites" are good at making these decisions? Even the "wiseman" LKY has even almost implementing to let university parents' children to have "privilege" to go into top primary schools, ideas scrapped after some strong objections. This was the original version of "elite concept"- only elites produce elites and elites enjoy at the expenses of commoners. Why Edu Minister last minute pull brake not to reduce Chinese's weightage in PSLE? What will happen after GE, let's see.

    - Why insist to let a 27yr old to go into parliament through GRC system? Bring PAP any good? Think! Why at this time!.The next round will be a 17 yr old liao.

PM Lee's son will be 28 years old at the next GE. Is TPL a 'lamb' to test test the public's reaction? ;)

  15. PAP is also commercialising canteens of primary schools and secondary schools by putting them out for tenders. Soon, each canteen stall owner will have to pay $4000 rent per month; 1 plate of mee will be selling at $4 to kids.

In old system, each canteen stall owner only pays ~$20 rent per month directly to the school management. Therefore they are able to sell cheap cheap food to kids.

Why don't they spare even 7 year old kids?
