  1. Hi there... how long does it take for you to take MRT from pasir ris to say ... raffles place? 30 mins? I am kinda worried for my mom. cos this move will trouble her the most.. >< .. but at least the chance for her to get a seat is much higher.

Yea... looking forward to the park.. with our baby gal just born .. i am already dreaming of thing we can do in pasir ris lol.. talks abt kiasuism.. :P

Yah probably around 30 mins plus. There are so many parks around Pasir Ris, gives me motivation to go jogging at night. :P

  2. Mine is 413 :P

Oh friend huh? Well if it's a good friend then I guess still ok, heard too many horror reno stories anyway! Hoping mine continues to go smoothly.

Yeah if it's parquet flooring can save you a lot already. My previous owner parquet design is kinda weird, the tiles are bordering it. We though it isn't very matching, hence gotta spend money to laminate. Because replacing the parquet and polishing it probably costs the same or more :(

Haha decking is really nice I think, gives a resort ambience sorta.

Oh near to Loyang primary school. I like your ceiling leh, so high. Like living in landed property. :D

Today the contractor going to show me the quotation, don want to tell me the quote on the phone. Say want to give me a surprise, hopefully is a pleasant one. :(

Yah I saw your parquet flooring, I think the previous owner try to save cost by not laying parquet at the sides.

Yah if decking with some water feature even better.

  3. Lol neighbour, I'm at drive 6 too. Don't tell me you're same block as me. Haha.

Probably your contractor thinks no hurry for you since he knows when is your second appointment date. Mind sharing who is your contractor anyway?

Seems your place should be in good condition then? Since you won't be changing the floors of the hall, bedrooms etc. Haha I thought of decking too but no $$ le. Costs a lot more than to just tile it.

Oh really? My blk is 454, whats yours?

Actually I don noe what company it is from ler. Cos is my friend's father, he also never give me his name card. Sigh... Saw my friend's house that was done by his father, the workmanship quite good. Anyway, called him today. He say will give me the quote tomolo as he is negotiating with his sub-con to give me a good price. Keep my fingers crossed.

Yah, the contractor advise no need to change the flooring. He say use chemical wash will look as good as new. As for the bedroom, the previous owner already laid parque flooring. So just need to polish it will do.

Haiz as for the decking probably have to wait till year end for my bonus. haha

  4. Solid surface are made from acrylic or acrylic polyester mix. I will go for this material too for my new kitchen. I like the variety of patterns and seamless look. The downside of this material is that it cannot take high heat. I have the habit of putting a hot pot or plates direct on the surface as currently I'm using those ceramic tile top.

I would not recommend laminates if you are going to have cutouts for sink and hob. It absorbs moisture and expands.

Is solid surface expensive? Any idea how it will cost?

  5. I stay in Bedok & working in Pasir Ris area for the past 7 yrs. There seemed no "well known" food outlets, but I found too many traffic lights & bicycles.

Yah I find that there is a lot of cyclist around too. But nothing compares to the number of bicycles that are parked at Boon Lay MRT station there. Wonder how they can find back their bicycles.

  6. Hi jtcp82

You can get something to eat at West Plaza Mall. There are 3 coffee shop inside the plaza. The fish ball & Laksa noodle at the other end of the west plaza mall kopitiam is quite good.

And zhi cai stall at ko fu also not bad.

Even at the Elias Mall there is a zhi cao stall at the second floor alway crowded with pple. Also quite good. Alternatively you may go to the central blk 100 - 400 near to neigbourhood police. There are a few stall that also quite good.

Thanks rtu for your info. I am staying at 454. Yah, there is a 24hr coffeeshop there. So which part of Pasir ris are staying at?

  7. There are many companies providing flooring services ranging from Repairs, restoration, polishing, etc.. for parquet related flooring.

These companies vary from anything from SOHO - One Man Show with Mobile no., Call centers providing General Services that offers almost everything under the roof and Professional services or Specialists.

One such company stands out is MR WOOD VARNISH. Very focus and specialised in wood parquet flooring restoration.

That's why I got them to do my wooden floors. Services Pro & very satisfied with job done.

    Dust free sanding is impressive.

May I know how do they charge? By floor area?

  8. Posted: Thu Apr 15, 2010 6:52 pm Post subject: Anyone heard of water system?

Those kind where you use at home. Spoke to my aunt the other day, she told me she bought a water system recently and it has lots of benefits. She recommended me to get one. I wasn't really paying attention to what she was saying. Just felt that it was rather unnecessary and a waste of money. Come to think of it, since it was being sold in Singapore, clearly it will have certain benefits. The water in Singapore isn't that bad i suppose. Correct me if i am wrong. Anyway i just want to find out what people think about having a water system. If it's that good as claimed i wouldn't mind considering getting one.

    Found this interesting

    http://www.withinus.net16.net/

I think although singapore water is clean, the pipes that the water travels thru I don think it is that clean. Actually I was thinking of getting one, but I am spoilt with many choices. The general one is to filter the water. Some produce ionised water, claiming the water can detox (why is this detox term so popular nowdays?).

I was told that there is a different in the quality of the water that is why Evian water is so expensive compared to other mineral water (usually I get the cheaper one :P ). Well I am easliy being physco by all this sales talk, what do you guys think about it?

  9. Mine is at pasir ris too, near downtown east :P

Yeah for me, I only got drawings when the carpenter came, that was only last week? And my reno has been ongoing since 3-4 weeks already. Guess that's what the premium is for between an ID and contractor.

My reno so far so good, it was pretty fast in the beginning, but seems to be slowing down now. Or maybe I'm too anxious. Haha.

What are you planning to do in terms of ur reno anyways?

I am quite near downtown east too!!! I am at drive 6. I am very anxious also but my contractor always tell me relax. Haiz, haven even give me his final quote. Don noe issit delay tactics as he knows my second appointment is next week.

As for me, I will only do the kitchen and the 3 toilets. Will also do a long list of custom made furnitures like tv console, shoe rack, wardrobe, toilet cabinets etc . If still got spare cash, will deck my balcony which will cost 2 to 3K.

  10. Hi there.. i am new to Pasir Ris too! Where side are u from previously? i am from central. As i am at st 53 i dont see any coffeeshops nearby.. its going to be ex if we keep eating at whitesands lol.

    Hi tigertgr,

I was from Bedok previously but seldom go Pasir Ris so sometime get lost while driving. Haha. I am living at drive 6 lucky still got coffeeshop nearby. But don see much eateries in Pasir Ris though. Where are they hiding? :dunno:

  11. hi,

I have recently went to my fren's em to check out his Reno. He has also done roller shutter - not the traditional type - whole piece metal. The person selling modify it to allow light to penetrate. If u interested, I can check with my fren.

    Hi,

How much does it cost? Will rain be able to penetrate through the shutter? I am still thinking to install roller shutter or roller blind. :dunno:

  12. jtcp82, my renovations have started already actually, just that i'm kinda slow in posting pics up or always forgetting to bring the cam along

Where is your place? I think if you're getting a contractor and not an ID, they are unlikely to have any pics for you though. Mine didn't, usually it's just hand drawn on the walls to explain something to me

It is at Pasir ris. Yah didnt engage a ID but the contractor got one carpenter that can draw one, but he is quite slow. Somehow I sort of show them my concept through magazine pictures, don noe whether they understood what I meant or not. Sigh... So hows your renovation getting along? Hope you could give me some pointers on what to look out for since we have the same layout. :D

  13. Finally, after months of waiting and waiting and more waiting...work is finally starting on our new home. Lots of work has to be done within a a short 7 weeks. With such a big project on hand we decided that we needed professional help. And who better than our very best friend and brilliant Interior Designer to do the job. The designing and planning stages of this project started slow cause we had almost six months before getting the keys. But finally finally the wait is over.

Here's the original floor plan to our EM:

    OriginalFloorplanpdf-AdobeReader114.jpg

We decided to change the layout of the house a little. Here's the new floorplan:

    1st floor

    pbdg01-revisedpdf-AdobeReader114201.jpg

    2nd floor

    pbdg02-revisedpdf-AdobeReader114201.jpg

Interesting layout. you have like a small balcony in your original masterbedroom. Congrats on your new home.

  14. Hi gorilla,

I bout the tub fr Adamas @ Tradehub 21 for $780. Dimension 1480X690X680mm, but they also come in a small size which is 1350X690X680mm.

    Cheers :)

    Hi Pinkydot,

I have almost the same layout as urs too but is opposite. I like your masterbedroom toilet very much. I was thinking of putting a bathtub too. Issit very squeezy with the bathtub in and also issit diffcult to clean those area like the floor near the wall? Thanks in advance.

  15. Supp... sorry for the late post. Its a really busy week for us... :D i am just abt to up load some pics for week 4.. nothing much.. but plastering.. its pretty well done imo.

For the Air con.. i went will HONG TAR. The sales lady (Katrine (sp?)) was very patient and pretty knowledgeable. Even the crew (2 man team) that she send to do our trunking impressed us. They are punctual (the fact that on the 1st day, they are suppose to come at 11.30. But at 10.30 we received a call from katrine and informed us that they are being held up at another site..and will arrive at 12.30, Which promptly they did), very effective and efficient. Once they arrived.. they started to go thur with us.. where be our blowers be , solving our trunking routes etc. Thur out the process they are very patient with us and listening to ours air con needs. And their advice helps us heaps too.

We have 6 blowers and 2 compressor that need to be routed. And within 30mins the routes are all planned and agreed ... and immediately they went to work. By 5ish they have already setup the 2nd compressor mounting and routed all trunking with 50% of coolant cabling done. Which they say they will be back the following day to finish up. This (2 day trunking installation and 1 day blowers/compressors installation) was already told to us by Katrine during the sales phase.

I will post up some pics and also a short review on Impress 21. :)

    Hi,

Can I ask whether your aircon contractors submit any approvals for installing two compressors? I will moving in to Pasir ris too and will be having 6 blowers like yours. Worried we will face difficulities when installing two compressors.
