  1. I've seen maids do all sorts of stunts just to clean windows, and I'm getting a part-time domestic helper with my place. I don't want to endanger her life, so wondering if you guys have some good tips to share?

Any type of device that can help?

I had a magnetic cleaner for my fish tank when I was younger, you run this little magnetic plate outside the tank, and inside there's a cleaner that sticks on. Is there someting similar for windows?

Yes, i see this before. U may want to go to DIY shop to take a look

  2. My Wife and I are in the middle of renovating (Ho Bee) our resale 3S Serangoon flat.

During the reno, the existing windows and grilles have been removed and new Alu sliding windows fitted.

We were surprised how bright and airy the flat looks without any grilles being fitted. My contractor is now asking what type of grilles I want to fit.

I am a foreigner, and do not understand the apparent desire of Singaporeans to live in a prison-like environment with all windows and doors fitted with bars, and I am considering the alternatives.

    My main questions are: -

    1. Is there a high risk of robbery if I don't fit grilles, bearing in mind that the old grilles would not have posed much of a barrier to a determined thief. I always assumed that Singapore was a relatively crime free country.

    2. Are there any types of removable grilles available. By this I mean easy and quick to install when we are away and remove when we are living there. Alternatively a concertina folding type of grille might be the answer if available.

Sorry for not using any Singlish, but the only word I know is "La" ( and a couple of unrepeatable Hokkien words).

    Don

Firstly, we install the window grilles not becos we like it but for the safety of our young generation. Sorry to say this but i find that your this sentence "do not understand the apparent desire of Singaporeans to live in a prison-like environment with all windows and doors fitted with bars." is very offencing.

  3. i am in somewhat a dilemma.. we have just bot a 6 yr old flat which was immaculately maintained, including the WCs. Still we decided to engage an ID to do overhaul on kitchen and living/dining, and these already cost us a bomb. Thus, we were thinking of trying to reduce costs to see if we could keep some of the items left behind by the ex-owner.

All other appliances are easy to decide, except for WCs. Personlly I prefer to change all WCs as I dun really like the idea of using the same toilet bowls that have been used for 6 years by other people. however, when we checked the WCs, they are actually in good condition. Furthermore, it is Caroma. Incidentally, we checked the price of the model from Sim Siang Choon, it costs at least $500 each. Wouldn't it be a waste to hack them away? I dun think we can afford to buy such expensive WCs as there are so many items we need to take care of.

the other thing that rather confused me is that my ID told me that the WCs cannot be put back once it is taken out (we are going to hack everyting in the toilets for reno). But someone else told me it can be done.

    So which is true?

    Confused...

Are u doing the re-plumbling? If you are should not have any problem in putting the WC back.

  4. Got Mr K's contact from this forum and called him for his ID services but he rejected me saying too busy that's all... kinda disappointed with that...

Nevertheless call up the main line to ask for quote and was asked to go down to the office and a junior designer was assigned to attend to me which gave me a feeling that they not so interested to quote me because I actually know more things than the junior designer (as i am a more technical person) during our conversation...

he is unable to understand my id requirements and poor in the technical details or id suggestions to me but he is honest to tell me he is new to this line and will try his best to quote...

Wonder does anyone experience this or am i the odd one out?

Who is the new id? When I get my ID, he is also new but he is good and willing to go extra mile. Try to use simple terms to talk to the junior id i think he will be able to get wat u mean.

  5. homeloveme, next time the puppy barks again can call police saying that the owner might be abusing the puppy.

My mum's house have a neighhbour in 7th floor, whenever there need to pray will always burn alot of incense paper. The ceiling is brown she buy paint and paint back. What worse is we live 9th floor imagine the smoke can go up to 11th floor. Got one time my brother call 995 cos he tot have fire, then the fireman said is the 7th floor neighbour buring the incense paper! A few times, we want to tell them off but stopped by my mum cos she scare they will do black magic to us. I dun smile to them at all lor.

My 2nd floor neighbour originally is a chinese after her neighbour sold the flat to the malay family. The malay family put their plants to her area and making the corridor very dirty then she sold the house to another malay, ha now 2 malay put their plants outside their flats what an eye opener.
