  1. The carpenters came today to fix up their shoddy work. Guess what? It's still incomplete! They wanted to stick the TV console laminate with joining, my hubby refused. How could they even wanted to do that? It's so ugly! Then, they didn't replace the doors which they wrongly screw the handles. They just fixed back the same old door!!! And no shelving for the cabinet that was suppose to have in the first place! And when my hubby asked them to put in the wire ring for the TV cable, they said no way. They already cut an ugly squarish hole and it's good enough. What the rubbish is this? And the rack? Oh they just tighten the clip and that's all. Surely it will just come off after a while.. I SMS the ID to request him to come and supervise for once. But never turn up either. Well, maybe I should just keep the balance 50% and get another carpenter to do up the rest of the work. What do you guys think?
  2. I guess being responsible in whatever we do is really crucial in all aspect of life. I'm really sad that people nowadays do not mind carrying the load of guilt being irresponsible. I really can't imagine the legacy they will leave to their next generation. Take example D--s--n Cl---t that we initially liase with. He has 2 young kids. But his "hack care" attitude is not only going to give the Reno industry a bad name, he is really setting a bad example to his kids. WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND.
  3. We customized this mirror to match the overall design of our room. Local made and the mirror is from Japan. In the reflection is the wardrobe. With a laundry basket from Robinsons.
  4. What the carpenter provided How a wardrobe basket should look like.
  5. No news from the ID and the carpenter after a week when the carpenter boss came to see all the workmanship and the quality that they provided. Even the electrician did not response to my smses to finish up the LED lights. Those who PM me to ask for further info. I can only finalized my view towards hiring them when everything is rectified. Yes, they may provide such quality but whether or not are they responsible enough to rectify and improve their workmanship and quality will have the final say to their reputation. I'm still waiting... ...
  6. The carpenter boss came to my residence today while I was out and when we discussed on the drawers, he told me that the depth of the drawers are different due to the bar holding onto the table. I came back and check on the drawers and found this horrible sharp edged bar just above the drawers. The bar is not filed smoothly nor it was covered properly. What is this???
  7. I started another thread on my carpentry work. It was such a big hiccups and terrible quality and workmanship. Really regretted hiring them. Read about it and avoid what I'm going through now. I also includes lots of photos so that you'll have a clearer picture on the standards. And the carpenters said they have done some units in Singapore and no complaints. I guess they may be 1st timer to renovate their new house and don't really knows if it's acceptable or not. I hope it's not many. http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=54768&st=0&p=763591&fromsearch=1entry763591
  8. In case you are wondering, I got the door handles from Seawalk. These handles are not very ex, so don't let your ID charge you extra for it. It's a few dollars ($2-$4) unless you get from Hafele which can cost $16 per pcs, but their design are really nice.
  9. I insisted to get this tie rack for my hubby. It hangs 27 ties. And look, you can hang the belts too. I also get one for myself. They have the belt rack but it can only hang 12. So I got the same tie rack. See, I can have my accessories displayed well enough for me to match my clothings.
  10. Ceiling light from Phillips. Simple and clean cut. Glad it's brighter than my previous one.
  11. In case you missed out my thread in the carpentry forum. I would like to share with you the quality and standards of carpentry work from an ID who hired carpenters from Malaysia. The work for sure is slow and surely there will be delays especially it takes them a few hours to reach Singapore due to the jam at the causeway. What was told a 2 days work dragged on and on. 16 days and still rectifying their work... Please read so that you can avoid such problems that I'm facing right now and also picked up some info on the accessories used. Thank you. http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=54768&st=0&gopid=776109entry776109
  12. Thanks, Yandm & mkv. I actually wanted to use a reputable carpenter with 20 years of experience. They even invited me to their factory to see their quality which I'm pleased with. But my hubby insisted to give this new setup a try saying they will be more diligent because they are trying to build their reputation. Unfortunately, they hired the wrong carpenter. I wouldn't use them if I knew their carpenter is from Malaysia. Not that Malaysia carpenters are no good, but the thought of the Standards and requirements may be very different from here. And indeed they prove it well. Now I have to try to save some money to redo my masterbed room all over again cause it will not surprise me if it wear and tear within the next 2-3 years or any damages comes along the way. And it may cost more in 2-3 years time.
  13. 10) no way they are going to change this but I'm really so so upset to see such quality of material and work. This is the interior of the wardrobe. Look at the PVC laminated on a rough wood. This is my 6th experience in carpentry renovations. Once in my dad's house, once in my MIL house and 3 times for my kitchen, living area and my study room. Non I have much complain on the workmanship. Only quality for my kitchen cabinets. But still, it's not as terrible as this one. I probably tear down everything in 2-3 years time. Having to pay $8k for such quality. It's much more ex than the depreciation of my car. Worst is the amount of time they dragged. And what surprised me was the carpenter told me that they have installed a few projects here and non complaint. My response was, because they are new to Reno, that is perhaps why they don't have any comparison. The foreman told my hubby that the thickness of the door is the latest requirement. Huh? I just have my living room TV console built 2 years ago. Even my sofa comes with side drawers which I bought last year is 19mm thick.
  14. 6) Change all the base of the drawers from 4 mm thick to 15 mm. The bottom of the drawers are not PVC laminated and it's only 4 mm thick. I was trying to show the carpenter the quality of the wood, I used my nail to indicate the thicken and who knows, the wood just break apart. 7) the ID couldn't figure out where the carpenter bought such baskets. There are rough edges and the side bars don't reside into the closet when I push the basket in. I ended up pushing the bars individually in order to close the wardrobe door. 8) we told the carpenter to cater 4 sockets in the cabinet just below the TV for plugs. They only cut for 2 sockets, and the electrician ended up sawing it. But hey, where's the round wire case for the cable to from the back? 9) These are something they wouldn't want to modify. Look at all the doors, the thickness is 15mm. Standard doors in Singapore is 18-19mm that's why the handle's screws are all catered for such thickness. Look at the number of washers they have to put in order to fit into their thin doors.
  15. 18 days since the day of the installation of my masterbed room carpentry work. This is the WIP...... It definitely seems like a major Reno counting the days the carpenters and the electricians has to come to do all the stuff. Now, we are waiting for the carpenters to rectify the following before we can have a thorough clean up and be able to sleep in our room. :-( 1) covering up the bottom of the writing table. I really can't figure out why they construct the table in such a way? Obviously, there is no base on the bottom of the table. When the electrician wanted to install the LED light below, he couldn't mount it onto any base below the table. 2) to seal the gap with silicon. 3) This, I couldn't figure out either. Why did they install the handles out of alignment? This, I find it hard to believe! The top handle and bottom handles are not in the center which I'm ok but they are not align properly. 4) Replacing the laminates which has a long scratch line. This is too obvious not to replace, others we just close 2 eyes. 5) Wrong laminates. The base of the top cabinets for the TV console connected to the dresser should be in brown. They laminated it white. It's quite obvious when they install the shelf but I only found out after I did the cleaning myself.
  16. We called Phillips and they said they can replace the glass for just $30. Phew! I really don't want the electrician to cover the cost of damage. He installed 2 pieces yesterday with his helper holding onto the lights while he drilled without problem. The light is $175.00 during promo and $240 without discount.
  17. Just finished sweeping up shattered glass all over the floor and my bed. The electrician came alone today to finish off the installation. As he doesn't have any helper today he had a hard time holding the light and his drill hit the metal frame holding the glass sending the glass shattered all over him. Thank God he is unhurt. If he has managed to install it yesterday, this definitely won't happen! I really feel sorry when he said he is going to pay or the lights. I think the carpenters should be the one paying if not because of their dilly dally attitude, the electrician need not come today again. The electrician is very responsible and charge very reasonable for some extra sockets in my girl's room. I'll definitely recommend him and use him for my upcoming new property which will be TOP in another 6 mths time.
  18. While cleaning up the dresser and the TV console. These are what I found. Now I'm gonna see what TYASDESIGN has to say.
  19. Oh my! Can anyone tell me is a table bottom suppose to look like this? My hubby said when stuff fall off from behind the drawers, I can easily picked it up on the floor. I said its for the lizard to build a nest inside my drawers. ?????
  20. Finally, the carpenters finished at 9.30pm. So you can imagine what time we get to sleep. :-( the electricians came at 10am but couldn't complete their work and will have to come tomorrow to install the lightings. Not because the electrician are slow, but the carpenters just take their own sweet time. They work 2 hours and went out to puff, then work another 2 hours and went for their tea break, then work 2 hours and puff again, then another 3 hours, they had their dinner, then rush like crazy. The electricians were also frustrated at their pace. And when we asked them to install the TV onto the console, they told us that the IDs will do it. And we were like "Huh???" IDs doing the drilling? Will be cleaning like crazy tomorrow. :-(
  21. Thanks Batman. Really didn't expect so much hiccups and delay. :-( If given more time, we definitely want to compare before buying but the carpenters and electrician all come so unprepared and we ended getting whatever we can get in the shortest time. :-( My hubby went out twice today because the drawers front are too thin for the handles' screw and he has to buy either shorter screws or washer for the carpenters. Then the electricians wall screw are too short and my hubby ended up going to get the screw for them. :-( Luckily this is just my masterbed room only. I really can't imagine if it's the whole house renovation.
  22. You may want to consider these switches from Chan Huat @ $23.30 These are from Chan Huat too which my hubby bought it 3 years ago to mount onto the side of a TV console wooden panel for the lights. As the wood is dark in colour, my hubby bought these to match it.
