  1. Happy New Year! hahaha. It has been a while and hope your are having loads of fun with the deco now that reno is over and done with. yamseng.gif

Speaking of your games room, I've just got the Fiber Optics installed in my home. It was a bit of a pain due to the extra trunking that I couldn't conceal but we managed to hide the termination point away with a thin trunking running along kickboard from the door to my Living room.

Not sure if you guys have are converting or have already converted to Fiber, but **** it is fast. I recommend TP Link Powerline Network adapters to turn almost every single power point in your home into an ethernet port. The whole home is now wired and we can watch movies and share files almost anywhere in the apartment! Am a bit of a tech geek but if anyone looking to do concealed wiring, I strongly recommend doing some proper planning and having some expansion options built in for the future. (Speaking of which, I'd prolly post up some pics of my wire configurations to share)thumbsup.gif

P.S. a PS3 might be a bane for the wives, but it doubles up as a media server, Blu-Ray player and Web Browser on your TV all at once. Use a HDMI cable to connect and you can reduce your wiring count by half, and save on having to buy other electronic devices!

    true story! haha..

and tks for the network adapters!

cause seemingly after closing the mbr doors, i suffer major signal loss from the connection

  2. Hi Ne0, thanks for your comments! i really appreciate you point about keeping the theme. This is something i'll constantly bear in mind in the future to come.

Actually, the choice of that yellow orange is the house in its original state, I actually don't quite like it (although I am into the contrast wall thingy) and am planning to paint gloss black over it. Hope that works out as I visualized in my mind.

ooo i misunderstood. i thought you was going to introduce some gloss black with the yellow in the background.

am glad the yellow will go cause is either make it or break it but likely the latter. haha

my house is grey, white mainly dressed in stainless steel and gloss laminates.

another primary color can add contrast to the house and we're strictly on just 1 more color, nothing more, so there's this constant reminder with our purchases.

  3. Tks Norah for your compliments :)

I'm gonna check out the flower shop you mentioned in Tg Katong over the weekend! Have yet to find place selling those nice bamboo plants yet. Yeah, flowers and plants really add a lot of life into the apartment, especially given how straight cut the reno of the house is. Right now I'm spending my weekends looking for nice vases and flowers to deco the hse, especially with CNY coming.. Wondering if I should buy those mandarin orange shrubs that are being sold everywhere of late.. hahaha

I'm still have a living space in my old dinning area that is completely un-furnished, so that will probably be my next update once I figure out what to do with that space. Its currently used to play Mahjong under our spot lights... WahAHAHAH. Oh yeah, I am also seriously considering buying those hanging egg chairs as the final addition to my balcony, but it will be damaging to my pocket man... ughh.

Also, Happy 2012 to all reno-talk members, and best of luck for the new year! And for the guys that will embark on their reno this year, I wish you guys good luck and congratulations on your new home in advance good.gif

Nice to see you around still in RT!

Talk about un-furnished and un-finished business, likewise, my games room is NEVER done up yet. hahaha

    Happy New Year too!

  4. chanced upon your tblog while revisiting renotalk forum after quite a hiatus

really like the way you handle your reno - slow and steady, only doing what you really want and what you really like.

the location is definitely unique and really give the peeps here a fresh take on reno since i'm assuming many are hdb dwellers like me.

having said that, imho, just wanna comment that you gotta make sure the prolonged reno has focus and stays to the theme.

somewhat, i feel from months to months we may feel different bout how the minimalism look as in clean sharp straight look vs rich curvy infinity look.

i'm guilty of that, so just want to share with you.

i must say the choice of yellow orange is really daring! good for you!

  5. gee.. is been so long i almost forgotten how to upload pictures to here.

2011 come and go and I hoped everyone's reno had been a smooth and satisfying one.

well, for those doing their reno in 2012, i cannot tell you how rewarding yet tiring a renovation can be.

but for what is worth, hang in there! renotalk forum is here for you to share your excitement if not rant your reno woes.

    is highly therapeutic trust me.

we been wanting to dress up the games room but alas procrastination sets in (badly) and it just escapes us.

we set our mind to get it done up this year, so we're just crossing our fingers.

neverthless, the past year is filled with quirky buys!

here's to kick start 2012 with our 2011 nonsensical yet we-knew-we-had-to-buy items!

IMG_7021-1.jpgTop: one of the outstanding items that was really long overdue?!

it was really the pesudo blood stains that made us buy this when we were in HK recently! finally a doormat for the house

    IMG_7300.jpg

Top: been a few places to shop for our mahjong chairs but none caught our eyes? but when we were at "Like That One" sometime back in August, we just had to buy this when we saw it! we really like the discreet retro feeling there

IMG_7293.jpgTop: the clock that we've been talking for the past year. inspired or rather copied entirely from a page in "home & decor", this clock from Lifestorey with its chrome and reflective square surface fits the house decor to a T! The lines of orange help to break down the otherwise flat white.

IMG_7295.jpgTop: Tissue box from Hong Kong too. We swear to you we had everyone talking each time they realised it is a tissue box! haha

    IMG_7081.jpg

Top: Our defined corner for seasons' greetings. This time, we stashed away our xmas tree and decided to go for little items to go along with all our quirky buys!

Second day of Jan of 2012!

Here's wishing everyone best of health and lucks, a prosperous and bountiful 2012 ahead!

    Happy Renoing everyone!

  6. Hi

I LOVE your place.. Especially your kitchen.. How's your entertainment/gaming room? Do you have pics to share? :dribble:

Thank you for dropping by my T-blog.

Yes, is been a year since we moved in and we still love our kitchen like we love it the first day we moved in!

Unfortunately, procrastination sets in and WE HAVE YET TO DO UP OUR GAMES ROOM. HA!

partly also because we are so in details that we really takeeeee our time on it (but that's more like an excuse anyway).

but we haven been happy filling the house with quirky buys though!

let me try uploading some pics!

will b good to kick start this tblog for 2012

  7. hello ne0mesis,

I am very impressed with your cabinet at the living room.

1)Is it inspired by piano keys?

2)Is the black "keys" the slots for opening the door to the cabinets or black laminate?

3)Do you mind taking a closer picture of the black "keys" to your living room cabinets?

4)Is the space behind your TV utilised as well or it's blocked out?

    Thanks in advance.

    Tks for dropping by!

    1. I would say it wasn't intentional. We wanted to adopt a minimalist feel, do decided the flush the long wall with this cabinets to get rid of the recess on the long wall where the cabinets are now. With minimalist, the colors matters, so it just happened that it turned out this way. but yea, it does look like piano keys now that you mentioned it. ha

    2. Yes, it is. although not all are openings. judos to our ID, he was creative enough to give it the illusion like every "key" can be opened. but in actual face, some are cut in i.e "openable", the rest are jus a visual effect.

    3. ok, I will try. stay tuned!

    4. space behind tv is just laminate over it and nothing more. alhtough a hole had been cut to throw in the wires.

    Hope it helps!

  8. Hi ne0mesis,

Thanks for your help re the info on Fujioh hood. Will discuss with hubby in depth on whether to go with Fujioh :). Your kitchen design looks great, really like the island :)!

Btw would like to find out how's your experience with Like That One? Was planning to go there after collecting our geberit system from the warehouse at Wcega Plaza but too tired :P. Thinking of looking for solid bookshelves as hubby and I both love books :).

    Thanks again!

    BlackSesame

hey there... no problem at all!

is my way of giving way after learning so much from this forum too.

yea, the island is also our fav piece in the house.

Like That One pride themselves as retro chic boutique and they do have some unique and been-there-done-that pieces that surely catches attention. but of course, at boutique prices alike. if you're tired from Iwannagohome, hitting such stores definitely refreshes! apart from like that on, there's places like Lorgans, Restore and Second charm. Second Charm offers best pricing in my opinion. Plus, they can customise the re-touchup and re-color your pieces. Go for pencil leg kind for a loud yet subtle retro statement!

thanks for dropping by my tblog btw!

  9. out of sight, out of mind.

    this is really true.

just a simple harlow harlow to keep my little reno journey in here alive.

hope everyone i spoke to via pm is doing great.

    time really files!

soon a year of moving into bukit panjang.

still lots of diy not done, but hey at least the mahjong chairs are bought from "Like That One"!

    HA!

seriously, haben been snooping around in here to check out the recent unbelievable renos!

is always therapeutic reading up the beautiful pics coupled with the behind the scenes stories and close-to-heart journeys

hope to buy that pocket of time seriously

    cya around guys!

  10. is always worth logging on to renotalk now and then because some reno seen here really are noteworthy!

totally love your space and the details to complement it.

i put up some of my fav tblogs seen here on my tblog.

do check it out, scandi, minimalist.. is all there!

will definitely be back to check on your reno

  11. i must say fine taste on the choice of furnitures - exquisite and with class.

with that, you must have a matching deep pockets too. ha!

no offence, just joking ya. well, better late than never, welcome to RT!

really nice squarish layout you have there and 2 balconies?? wow

if i may suggest, if you have a kitchen island, incorporate it with the the kitchen column facing the living room. surely conversational if done properly!!

    i guarantee that! ha

inspiration / looks you opted really apt these amount of space btw.

now is the critical task to find THE ONE id that can help to gel and translate the space with your pieces.

gd luck with your id selection!

    d a r n exciting times ahead.

cause i'm already excited for you!!

and i will be stalking your blog. ha

  12. hey hey... where do i even start? took time to catch up all the previous where i stopped albeit skim through only.

so sorry to hear that bout yr reno woes. really hope all is well and rectified now. otherwise, it just doesnt seem to do justice that the house reno is so botched while you have some of the most fantastic buys for the house!

    these two chinese words always sound more meaningful;

    Ely, 加油! 加油!

  13. admittedly, i MIAed again.

always stay current in renotalk forum i told myself, but seemingly a month without posting anything at all. tsk tsk...

for my own record solely, was nursing a back inflammation for awhile but alas, the recent running event proved that it should be all well and ok.

    so in between not working and just nursing my health, we worked on the outstanding items in the house - in particular DIY and arts, games room design;

    our humble effort at DIY and arts for the display area in the living room;

    IMG_5793.jpg

    close-up;

    IMG_5794.jpg

    the initial sketch of our games room after discussion with our id;

we have only limited space in the games room, so hoping to go for a sofa bed with storage space below and feature a shelving area made up of retro bricks. and if budget allows, to go for projection screen.

    IMG_5795.jpg

    how small the room u ask? well, this small (so you see, even the mahjong table must be collapsible. ha);

    IMG_5510.jpg

hope everyone is doing great with their reno so far!

the final look of the house is never completed one shot. take your time to build up the essentials first and slowly source for the rest.

i'm saying that cause seemingly we yet to fancy a wall clock we want!!!

  14. Hi again ne0,

How could a Virgo ever stand trunking of any sort? *gasp* Even your innocuous suggestion sounds incredulous to me :P I kid ;) That's where the feature wall/TV console will be so expect lots of trunking and crazy wires to hook up a multitude of equipment: receiver amp/blu ray player/SCV box/media player/NAS/X Box/TV.

When the aircon was first done, I was so aghast at the trunking that I paid an additional $250 to rectify it. Just so to accomodate the new better concealed aircon trunking, we SHIFTED the entire living area, ie. feature wall, but this works out nicely as I now can fit in a "foyer" like I always wanted....

that's more like a virgo. ha!

An EA is a complete different budget though, with the stairs, balcony, AND many bedrooms. I received $100k quotations for my simple reno, which was initially very disturbing because we had no idea it would cost that much. Current reno is half that, with another 50k into filling the space.

    100k for reno only?????

sounds incredulous to me :P I kid you not

Managed to fix the sink problem with my petulant insistence, and some "deh" powah (thanks, May Dream!). Doing without a solid backsplash (so the tap can fit) and changed the orientation of the doors. Additionally changed the top cabinets to all casement so that the bottom drawers would look symetrical and saved $$ on the Blum :P Those funds are now directed to a customised study/work top for the common bedroom's nook. Am intending to do a customised wallpaper for that bedroom but that will have to wait as it's more than 1k. Otherwise, it's more DIY LACK shelves for the nook to hold the Mac Pro and books.

Hoping to get blinds and curtains done this week, and packing should commence next week. Need ALL the luck I can get - thank you!

that's unfair! why cant guys "deh" too.

    wahahahaha

and yes, bless you with hordes of luck. ha

And more for the kitchen: :D

Dry kitchen knifeset - CS Kochsysteme too :)

    bad4_1_sbl.JPG

SAME KNIFESET!!! i bought from mayer at great world.

not the best knifeset i suppose but it was one piece and in stainless steel so were sold.

is stainless steel yes, but not rust-free. spotted a bit of rust on my knife.

  15. reading up, catching up...

i was lucky in a sense. during my reno, i almost made the fatal mistake of letting the id do up the kitchen sink in a wrong orientation! kudos to the virgo wife, she spotted it just before the day they cut the hole in the carpentry. so i do feel sorry bout your wrongly fitted wet/dry kitchen sinks. but then not all is lose right, am relief to hear that you could make your island bigger! space is much needed when preparing food

saw yr living rm pic with the ceiling fan.

my eyes picked up the trunking immediately rather than the fan. able to hide it?

initial housework at near reno completion can really be a pain in the donkey i tell you!

more to come, trust me! ha

incidentally, my pots and utensils are from WMF, not from german direct though. way out of my budget. my stainless steel knife set are from CS though.

fits perfectly with the WMF knife block! and is scary how much the stupid knife block cost! hee

yea, can tell you've been shopping and shopping for the house. i mean is reeaallly shopping and shopping and shopping. haha..

but good vibes for the things you bought so far and addressing modern and contemporary feel right? reno has its ups and downs too. you're not alone. at some period, we were doubting our design for the house too. but hey, the transformation will happen soon right! that's the results show ya. with all the superb finishes, it shouldnt be bad, at all! cross your fingers!

btw, reno budget typically sure burst. just a matter of how much.

I planned for 30k initially but they said it was impossible for a EA, esp with the design in mind.

did the figures, revised and planned for max 40k and still, i exceeded a lil. haizzzz

so dont worry, again you're not alone! ha

  16. Favorite tblogs

admittedly, there's always the reno mags to talk about fabulous renos. but for those who are incline to a more personlise insights and thorough story, rt tblog suggestively offers better. sometimes it takes that stroke of luck to spot that wonderful reno tblog and sometimes that wonderful reno ridicuoulsy escapes your radar.

presenting my favourite renovations featured in this forum till date - imho, they are consistent in their delivery in terms design and theme. Fused with selective signature or designer pieces, they made their places even more chic and party/forum conversational . of course, the list is by all means not exhaustive. there are some equally worthy good blogs i remember when i first started mine but is long dated and not seen in here anymore. I will add on the list too if i spotted any more gems in here. but like i mentioned, some just eludes me totally. so let me know if you have anyone in mind. in a sense, this is my way of capturing them and hopefully, serves more peeps here. enjoy!
