  1. Hi everyone and especially to those thinking of hiring Henry's service, just go for it. Henry is worth every penny is all I can say to those existing and potential customers. My house was done up by him two years ago and recently asked him to revisit my place for a small job and guess what my brothers and sisters? He came without skipping a beat. By the way, we didnt have any problem with Henry though the kitchen floor tilers were changed midway coz of some issues and very quickly, Henry replaced an equivalent and capable group of tilers that did a good job.

I would not say his service is cheaper than others out there coz there are many cheap ones but i must warn that what you pay is what you get and his is quite reasonable. Got to make a profit otherwise what's the point of starting a business?

And bro Henry and Simon, if you are reading this, Gong Hei Fatt Choi! My house is always a showcase of your work and drop me or my wife a note if you want to drop by.

    Regards from Sin Ming.

  2. hey sam, sorry for late response..very lazy to come to RT these days.. :P

Its not very expensive la..thats a misconception..

Over the weekend, we got the carpet tiles from a warehouse at Defu Lane. For the utility room, we chose tiles that cost $3.80 per pc, total 30 pcs (24 to be used, 6 to be stored for future replacements). So total cost only $114. We bought a tin of glue for $14. Went home, did the installation ourselves (apparently installation costs $250 if we engage a professional to do it!).

By the way, another disappointing season ahead for Liverpool this season with the lack of funds to compete with the big boys. Hey, any club want to buy Lucas for 20M pounds?

  3. Haha ya now enjoying new house~ really love it~ when you free you can visit my t-blog... i will try to take more pictures after i clean up my place today hahaha

Hope everyone enjoyed my T-blog as much as how I enjoyed writing it. Will be posting a review of my contractor on a later date after we reviewed his work for a time period after we lived in and that would mean my reno journey will officially end. I thank all RT friends who have contributed ideas, contacts along the way.

I just logged in and I see this great piece of news.

Wow champion! Finally! Congrats to you!

Happy cleaning during the long weekend.

    I will miss you.

    Cheers.

  7. hi mahjongace thanks, i did call to double and double check within this week, they better not jam up the deliveries or i :furious:

Zelly, another good news... Alex was so nice to accept the lights back since we did not even open up the packaging. He knows we are testing the original lights so it's really goodwill that he accept back. I immediately went back today to return and was apologising to him!!!

BTW, my glass backsplash n my MBR toilet glass top are upz! :yamseng:

Champion, long time no see and you are still the reigning Champion! I am going to take days to catch up where I left off the last time.

Things look pretty good for you judging by your last post, keep updating us all.

    Cheers.

  8. I believe many people are like me always hunting for cheapest quote and the reality is all products come with market price. When the quote is cheap, ID is impossible make a lost so things will come cheap as well.

In the end contractor tell you, you want cheap what, cheap quote cannot demand high quality lor. If you want expensive we also have ... this brand, that brand and may cost even more than established big firms. In fact big companies with scale can afford even better pricing with large orders and unused stocks. Small companies will not survive long if not honest.

Lesson learn is : Judge by best value and not best quote.

Workmanship depends on luck and independent from contractors. Initially my house looks OK, but 1 day before move in the few tiles was damaged by unknown contractors and toilet/kitchen stucked with cement until all the stink water come out from all the water outlet. Really disgusting. Kitchen doors hinge problems, Master bedroom hinge drop down, nearly injured my baby, water leaked in everywhere, master toilet basin and kitchen sink, need to glue 3 times then fixed. All the skirting poor workmanship, after glue the thing still come up gap and alot of ants now living inside. Really sad with that....and finally Henry blame my house wall not fit their skirting said the wall not flat and not straight.

The moral of the story is as chinese saying 路遥知马力

    Brother Small Carrot,

Your story reminded me of Brother Fencer's plight and your situation sounded worse than his. I feel sorry for you but how could the condition be so bad just a day before you moved in? Surely Henry would have checked that everything's okay before handing it over to you, no?

I have to agree that Henry's pricing is not cheap and neither is unreasonably expensive either, he has to make a living too, right? I am not sure how much he is charging you for the amount of work done but I think his pricing is fair relative to the market otherwise he wont be getting referrals.

Yes, life is full of randomness. Anyhow, has it been resolved already?

    Regards.

  9. I am still ard ar . Except , reading T-blog quietly , giving advice only when need , as we are voted the most vocal club wor . So got to keep low profile lol.

Actually nowadays , I spend more time on clubsnap le . Cos hobby change mah , but I didn’t forget our henner club de . I still keep following all henner T-blog closely to see if I will be any help. Infact , I’m the last person to reply in yr thread , but u no update leh :P

    Hey Brother Simon,

Nice pictures you got there, quite professional. Will you be able to come over and snap some pictures of my place once it is done up?

By the way, there is no need to remain quiet in the background because of some noise. If Henry is good, then he is good and conversely, if Henry is bad, then he is bad. This is a platform for people like you and me to voice our honest opinions so don't let the noise worry you too much. Haha but I don't think you are anyway.

And Thank You for pulling strings in the initial stage otherwise I am not sure where I can find a contractor like Henry.

    Regards.

  10. Some good news, some bad news.

Yesterday was a day of mixed news. Let me start with the bad:

    Bad News #1

Window Grilles - As a recap, we were previously looking for these kind of grilles:

    window-security4.jpg

Quote came in but was far, far, far too costly to do. So sadly, we have to use normal grilles (which I absolutely hate). What is so special about this kind that you cant do away with the normal ones?

    Bad News #2

Main gate - PM told me they cannot do the mild steel gate we want. So I have to find someone else to do it for us. I refuse to use wrought iron/aluminium gates! Refuse. What's wrong with wrought iron or aluminium gates?

    Good News #1

Bathroom - Managed to get our PM to reduce her bathroom quote, so we are now back to business! Though it's still more costly to do the custom bath, the difference is not much and we feel the payoff will be worth it.

    Good News #2

Windows - Understand from my PM yesterday that the permit to install our windows have been approved. As a recap, we are only replacing the windows in the hall and common room since the other windows have previously been upgraded by HDB. And, if you read this blog from Page 1, you'll know that I was looking for the American-style double-hung windows which is non-existent in Singapore:

    double-hung-window-4.jpg

B&E will be fabricating the windows for us. We requested to see the locking mechanism before they fabricate the windows and yesterday, our PM left it at our place for us to collect. We've seen it and are now even more intrigued! We were actually ready to sacrifice the windows since we couldn't do the grilles we wanted (see Bad News #1) and to save some cost.

  11. My dining set is finally here! In all the excitement over AFC, I forgot to post it in my blog :D

Table turned out beautifully  So all that waiting and hand-wrangling was worth the wait :P

The chairs were unrecognisable but I'm quite scared that it'll dirty easily coz the fabric's white.

Already after less than a week got stain here and there. Part of the joining of the upholstery could have been better but overall I'm happy with the price I paid for the work.

Here are before and after pics!

    4552213069_59c8c19b01.jpg4688315774_67d379038c.jpg

Hey Man Utd fan! For once, I thought the t-blog has transcended into some cooking blog instead until I saw the pictures above.

    Nice job, it's like new.

    Cheers.

  12. jus got a update from hubby, he met Edmund at our new place to discuss somethings.

We can bring forward the aircon piping installation, though cos of the late confirmation the aircon guys can at best do it on 25/6 and complete the rest on 28/6. Good enough for me so long they put priority on the MBR first cos the piping runs along some carpentry and the carpenter needs to take that into account.

Carpenter is coming on 26/6 to do measurement.

Wohoo & Yippee~! I think I can look forward to HO in July, hubby say with the progress, not surprising that we can move by mid july

Hey sam, that's good news. Congrats!

    Cheers.

  13. England,

Thanks for the compliments and insights. Think u r too generous with them though. :P

Indeed, World Cup Fever is upon us this next 4 weeks. Lucky havent taken mc yet this year so i should takethis opportunity to use up my quota if needed too. Haha. A cracker of an opening goal too for the hosts. I wldnt be able to do just as good if i tried.

Hodgson...my oh my...i really hope it will not come down to this. So he took Fulham to the UEFA Cup final. Its just a one season thing. Plus he's old...kinda short term employment i feel. Would prefer Dalglish irregardless of sentiments. :)

Btw, my wife has given green light for Anfield to host some World Cup matches but only when she's not working and is at home. Another BUT.....TV not in yet!!! Arghh!! Sorry to put a damper on ur hopes mate, but im targetting 25/26/27 june instead.

10pm kick-off 25th June Portugal vs Brazil. I support neither but it looks like a potential table topper. CR7 vs Kaka. Real Samba vs European Samba. Tentatively yeah...we'll see how it goes in two weeks time! :yamseng:

    El Nino,

I am just being factual. If it's nice, then it is nice. You are one of those lucky few to have a good contractor, that's all.

Hey thanks for the invite BUT (no pun intended) I might be out of town during that period. Looking forward to the first game between Spain and Switzerland and let's hope there will be an avalanche of goals from El Nino et al.

    Cheers.

  14. hey... really nice house!! club colours all around huh? all you need is a "This is Anfield" poster and it'll seem like Anfielf liao!

haiz.. can't believe they got rid of Rafa... to replace with Hogdson?!?!?!?! ughhhh championship division here we come! until we get rid of those **** yankees we'll never recover. There's talk they're hawking Torres and Gerrard for GBP 120 mil to pay off some of the debt!! This is going to be a really bad season for Liverpool!!

Agree. Seems like the immediate goal of Liverpool is to reduce the debt burden and quickly. The quickest way I guess is to sell Gerrard, Mascherano and El Nino, possibly Pepe Reina too.

Hey sis fiend, you might be right that Hodgson isnt coming to Anfield but the smart money is saying otherwise. With Man City and the other mid-table clubs seeking to improve their squads over the summer, rumours are rife that who's who is going where but you hear nothing on the Anfield front. Until some rich investors start pouring money into Liverpool, situation at the club is not going to get any better than it is now. Then again, there is no valid reason to pour money into Liverpool which is not in the champion league and might probably struggle in the UEFA preliminary rounds.

Dalglish is not the solution either if that's what on your mind.

  15. haha...fast meh? some faster than me wor. but so far we quite pleased with our contractor's work. he is pretty responsible until this stage. erm...as of now estimated HO is still 4 Aug although he will try his best to meet my request without compromising workmanship.

I went compass point. but hor shd be all sea horse having this promo leh. u go c lah, but hor they max max max hold for u exactly 2 months only. nothing more! so do not attempt to book ur sofa if u cannot meet the required delivery date.

    Hey Sam,

I can see that your renovation is progressing very well. I recall that your renovation didnt start till quite late in May or I got it wrong?

I went to the GR Link as recommended by you. Both staff are friendly and prices are reasonable. There is another sanitary wares shop down the same stretch and prices are also reasonable too. Have you gone in there before? Think is Hoe Kee.

Oh, England drew in the first match against the US, thanks to Robert Green. Gerrard's strike still gives me the goosebumps. I hope your hubby didnt put money on England in that match. Having said that, they will win the remaining both matches though.

    Cheers.

  16. hey bro england

when is ur turn to show us some pic of ur reno? :curse:

    Hey Sam,

As much as I would like to show you some pictures, I still have to inform you that the Wembley is still under construction and is not at the final product stage. I guess I will do away with those pre-construction and in the progress pictures coz they are really messy. Now that the World Cup tournament has just started and this alone will make it harder for me to upload and make comments along the way as I am usually busy during the day and these nights are already reserved for the World Cup.

I havent following your T-blog for some time already and will wanna check out yours since renovatoin is underway right? Good luck in your renovation!

Hey, are you rooting for England to win the World Cup? Please......

    Cheers.

  17. El Nino,

First, I want to congratulate you on the completion in your house reno. It looks good as a whole and the kitchen gives me the 3 different colours of Liverpool jersey-Red, Black and White-which I thought blends very well.

Second, your bathroom is nicer than Ritz-Carlton and you should feel flattered by so many compliments here from those above and myself included though I am not a tub person.

Third, out goes Benitez and in comes Hodgson which will mark the beginning of an end to the great Liverpool team. Getting into one UEFA final doesnt mean superiority in tactical skills and some quarters are suggesting that he might be the ideal replacement when Capello leaves the England post. Oh please....

Finally, South Africa just scored a wonderful goal against the Mexicans. What a left foot and what a goal at the top left hand corner! What a game!

Will I be invited to your house for the big game tomorrow against the yanks?

    Good night.

  18. haha sorry to say but i doubt this year's england's year.

supersonic speed? not that supersonic la, england. we're already one over month into the reno, thanks to Housing Delay Board. shall look forward to your tblog when you finally start one then..

thanks babe..sounds like a good price.

el nino, that was harsh! 8| but the truth's always harsh i guess..lol...

Haha.....it's not 'that' harsh. Well that's a reality that England played badly against the Japanese players, not suggesting that Japan is no good but it is a shame to win both goals through the Japanese players. As a matter of fact, I was cursing and cursing at the way the English played and none stood up. Hope that was just a warm up game and things might change for the better when the real test comes.

I will be in cloud nine if England win it. Hope Italy have a good game too but there can only be one winner, England.

    Cheers.
