A friend of mine like parquet flooring as she likes the warmth feel of it. She feels that scratches add character to the floor!I guess parquet belongs to yesteryear.... nowadays... if you want wood feel.... timber strips!!

minimalist is so hard to achieve...we all need many things in our daily lives, pots, pans, woks, rice cooker, ovens, laptops, etc....too many to name.there are items that we would use daily and would be a hassle to clear everyday only to take it out again the next day. So hidden storage of such items would make our lives easier while having a minimalist look. To be truly minimalist would not unrealistic unless we never intend to stay at that place. Hence, hiding things away appears to be the most realistic way.
but anyway, we say until got dragon got tiger, threadstarter also never come in.
Guys' take - why keep.... gotto use it again for dinner.... etc (sounds familiar)
In my household.... u'd better keep everything immediately in their right places (and I mean RIGHT places)... else.... lecture!! Sianz....
But I agree it makes the whole place looks neater

Hmmm... seem to have mis-placed all my on-going reno pix....... haiz.........

Hi.....may I know how does one maintain parquet floor? besides keeping water off the floor and taking care not to dent and scratch the surface...IMHO, these 2 reasons are enuf to get rid of it
I had this at my the first floor of double-link back in KL - grind it, patch it, then 3 layers of lacquer over it, few more layers at the bathroom area.
To reduce scrathes, all furniture legs are padded.
Never liked it and we were so happy to dispose of the property!!

When i was shopping for my 2 toilets and 1 kitchen stuffs, i was also offered good service. I am talking about aftersales service here.Hmmm... I suppose it depends what type of aftersales service... I changed some of the things I bought there without any hassle.
Maybe that day the salesman got off from the wrong side of the bed

my view is that the structural design does not enable a minimalist look. It does not allow the owner to keep things out of sight easily. For example, the kitchen, full height sliding doors to conceal everything would have made it look much more minimalist. Have seen quite a few of those full height cabinets in renotalk. The bookshelf is anything but minimalist...unless there is nothing inside...hahah..
the only thing i agree with you is that as long as the owner is happy, thats good enough.
True, that is why I ragged my brain to squeeze out every single inch of storage space in my little condo and put everything away from sight - a feat that requires constant housekeeping though

I got all my accessories there... served by Penny - very good service.
I suppose one man's meat is another's poison?

btw should the tv and sofa area have 3 downlight instead of 2?It boils down to personal preference and depending on the length of the wall

is this a downlight or ceiling light?btw do you have a pic of yr kitchen eubiq system? how does it work?
This is a ceiling light. The light shop I patronise recommend me this too for my yard and storeroom, stating it's the latest trend/design - but I didn't like the funny shape (but that's just me)

hi, thanks for the replies. another light shop i visited today told me 4 downlights in the dining area as well. now i'm pretty confused. :S btw, we decided not to hire my ID, but to go for a contractor instead, so I'm not sure if he'll be able to provide us with a professional opinion.Just for your info, they light people have a formula to calculate the required brightness, depending on the area... whether a 2x13W or 2x18W etc....
For ID.... most will try to accomodate their clients' whims and fancies... if possible... I have a colleague who has downlights every 3 feet in this living room

nicely done, not minimalist though.ID called this minimalist?
@gimz.... I am also wondering how minimal is minimal when in comes to minimalist?
It is... one glance..... straight lines, not many colours, no clutter?

the pink spots mark the place where i've been advised to put the downlights by the lightshop. they are 2X13W and come with frosted glass cover. the red spots on the plan above are what my ID has advised. i prefer the light shop's advise for the lbox area in the living room, but for the dining area, should I have 4 or 6 downlights. I'm already going to have a hanging light over the table that comes with 3 tungsten bulbs. TIAI have quite a similar layout as yours.... and the light shop also indicated the exact positions as in the pink locations.
For the living - I have a switch to control each side of the downlights, with the pair under the AV console - changed to normal bulbs on thermostat, so that I can control the brightnest
For my dining, I have a central light under the table and 4 downlights (all controlled by 1 switch) around the dining area.
For normal use, I switch on the single light at the dining area for about 80% of the time.. .enuf to provide lighting even for the living.... and if I want slightly more light at the living, I switch on the left and right cove lighting (yes, I have cove too all round the living)... one switch control the left and right, and another switch control the front and back. For the cove lighting, each side has a double 4 feet T5, which I switch off one of them to save energy.
Probably the only time I switch on all the lights at the living or dining is when I have visitors... which is very rare. It is just nice to have the cove and downlights there... just in case you need it.

Hmmmm... no one around this area?

My twenty over years neighbour is testing out my patience. This auntie burns joss papers every 1st and 15th day of the chinese calendar and she put the bin and burns directly outside my corridor bedroom. The smokes polluted the room as well as the living room though we closes all windowsI had the same problem with this idiot old couple, burn their crap papers (prepare to meet their makers) every 1st and 15th. Talk to them nicely - don't give a S**T... told my landlord..... they said they cannot do anything..... highlight this problem at meet the XXX session.... they just smiled.... cannot really do anything.... give face to the elders lor.... what the F.... what stupid answer is that? Just take a walk along corridors that have old people staying..... if issue fine... then the G will be super rich... can do away with ERP liaw. But frankly, they cannot do anything... have to please their constituents... their voters
