  1. i notice there is always home furnishing exhibition at Expo

There are exhibitions all year round and for mattresses there are also promotions 365 days a year. It's a sales trick.

I advice to go there and see see look look but not to buy there. The prices there are normally more ex than normal.

  2. lol. i bought a full leather sofa since last year xmas until now no show from a shop near potong pasir mrt old store houses.

Hmm.... woodpecker... last christmas is it 25-12-09 till today ?? 8 days only??

Even local goods also not so fast ready lor unless you are buying those cheap sofas from malaysia.

Sounds like you are trying to bad mouth them.

  3. Dunlopillo is now being manufactured out of Vietnam, there may be quality issues.

You have a fairly generous budget why don't you just want for a bedding promotion from the major department stores like Robinsons, Tangs or even Takashimaya. You will probably get a good deal on a Sealy or Simmons.

I prefer Sealy because I am fairly heavy and their spring system is better for me but all the top brands should be quite safe.

For 3k plus you could get a lot of brands, but if you are afraid of getting mattress companies that manufacture their mattresses in south east asia than probably you can try Tempur which is only produced in Denmark.

You may even consider Magic Koil or four star which is produced in Singapore.

  4. beds.sg

came across this site while looking for my bed frame. not looking to change my mattress as it's still good despite already 11 years.

the price here seems attractive, just wondering if anyone has bought from this site before. tks

Prices not bad but I suggest you look around first.

  5. Sometimes you have missing parts. I really don't think it is worthwhile for an individual to go China and buy one set of furniture. Just too much hassle.

I am in the trade and I wouldn't do it.

I have to agree with samtheman about this point.

The risk far outweight the pros.

I cant ready remember the exact area. But there are a few there at shunde. Just be super careful and remember that cheap doesnt mean good and expensive doesnt mean safe.

  6. Yes, Pinklady, I have PM-ed her too.. bt I guess she is not active anymore... :(

You can try staying at guangzhou shun de area. But beware, some of them display quality goods but might send you lousy goods. QC and shipping will be the most headache.

  7. Anyone heard of smooth leather?? the salesman told me it is not 100% real leather but it is a mixture.. they call it treated leather.. water resistance ( he pour coffee and wipe it off on a white sofa) and fire resistance ( he try to burn it with his lighter).

The leather is very smooth and comfortable..but i am not sure it will trap heat as i only sit on the sofa for 15 mins..

The salesman also mention that real leather need to maintain like using leather solution to wipe it etc.. this sort of treated leather just use clean cloth and wipe can liao..

    any comments?

When a material is water proof means that it will also trap heat. Most likely smooth leather is not really real leather maybe fake.

The lighter test is a trick. If he can light the flame and hold it on the same spot and if it doesnt burn tell me.

I can do the same test on my hand.

The trick is to keep moving the flame so that the heat doesnt build up on the same spot. That way it never burn.

Real leather and fake leather can be clean by just water and clean cloth.

  8. Be careful nowdays when you buy marble tables, there are a lot of man made ones in the market now.

Remember real marbles confirm cannot be fully white. They sure have some lines due to naturally environment conditions.

I think i know what type of stools you are talking about.

The ones with the marble near the surface but are very heavy.

One of the company is call Afos, specialise in marble table and stools.

  9. What does it say on your order?

There is no such thing as ultra violet leather. So creams claim to protect against fading, that's it.

It is quite easy to tell if it is not real leather.

From what i know the "leather" used in car seats are normally synthetic leather in other words fake leather.

Most likely you have been "sweet talked".Look in your invoice, if it states full leather, then go make noise if not......

you have to most likely go claim or just take it as a lesson learnt.

    Hope i am wrong

  10. Hi all,

Was wondering, has anyone self-imported furniture/home furnishings from overseas? If so, can you recommend some sites?

    Thanks!

    I wont recommend it.

    Consider the below first:

    Container deliver to your place?

    Assembly?

    Any wrong parts?

    Any damage?

    Any missing parts?

    Wrong items?

Must be careful cos these happens frequently

  11. Actually fabric is more cooling but must be careful of the material. micro suede is hotter than those rough fabric ( forgot the name) due to the fact that the "holes" are smaller so it is less breathe-able.

The trick is to find a smooth yet coarse fabric for your sofa. Please take note that the material used to made the sofa also plays a part. More fibre-fill more cooling etc.

  12. Wanting to get a red L shape sofa for my place, anyone can advise whether the L shape side should be next to the window or away from the window? If you know what I mean. Thx

It depends on the layout of your living room.

Placing it near your window will make your hall look even bigger

  13. Bro you can try doing a print screen and paste in photo editor or photoshop to get the pics.

It would be easier to find using pictures.

OM and star and mondi are good places to shop for furniture but they may not be on the cheap side but QC will be there.

Let me know what is the bed you saw at avanni and i can help you source but of course it is still up to you to go to the place to QC for yourself.

  14. Don't always check that but the law implies a 1 year warranty on most products under contract law. It is called merchantability,

you may want to check with a lawyer.

Also, the time limit for small claims tribunal is also one year. So if you have a problem with your product within one year of purchase you can still go to small claims tribunal to seek redress.

Most reputable furniture companies will service your product within one year of delivery.

ic ic. Thanks for sharing bro. Glad to have learnt something new.

  15. Hi eittus, you went to so many places but did anything catch your eyes?

If you did you could actually scout around the smaller shops to check prices.

It would be very helpful to have pictures to show as i know some items at bigger showrooms can be found in small furniture shops. But the bad thing is that they never display due to space issues.

    2 reasons they might have,

firstly they have the same suppliers in singapore (bed frames and mattresses etc)

secondly they do imports too (can import from china)

    But only some items cause:

Lorenzo and air has their own factory in china

HTL and domicil is same company which is locally made sofa mainly exporting to europe

    Harvey is import plus suppliers

    IFC mainly imports

winter, mode studio is suppliers and import

ikea have their own factory and the richest furniture business in the world

silver river is import and suppliers

The rest i am not very sure so i dont want to comment.
