  3. Natural wood will gives this problem. Especially serious if you stain darker color on your decking. IT will leave a trace on the planter or balcony. Sometimes even the exterior wall of the planter area will be affected if the plank are higher than planter box. If using WPC than no such problem. :) It's common for natural to produce "juice" over certain period of time..

in that case, i think i prefer wpc... cos i dun really like staining afterall... hehe

  4. If I'm to choose and looking at having something reliable that will be iron wood, however iron wood is a term not a wood species and there's tons of species classified as iron wood. durable and hard and there's lots of different grade as well. WPC is man made wood with plastic, the surface will have scratches which you wont be sanding it off. palm wood on the other hand is not recommended as there's a lot of splinter but cost to install is relatively low. Typically ID firm engage or outsource this portion to supplier or main con to do the job, of course there is some minor mark-up involve. However, there's a lot of supplier as an end-user you wont know who is good or bad. Unless you have seen the work somewhere, example from your friend house etc which is done by direct supplier otherwise do not take risk.

    Hi Christopher,

In this case, which iron wood will you actually recommend for a planter size? Is the price range same as WPC?

  5. There is no old chengal in the market now, however there are many fake chengal which is not even really suitable to be used as outdoor decking. $400 - $600 is really low. Now havent we heard of good thing doesnt come cheap. Real chengal is different, i can bet not all sales person will know. (Real wood expert will know). i can guarantee you it's not available even you have the money nobody will sell you.

Due to high demand of so many condos and dbss with planter therefore resulting in people going for quick buck. Wood will shrunk and warp in no time if install inferior quality. I've develop great interest in outdoor timber and did substantial studies if any of you are keen to know more i'm more than willing to share.

In that case, i really do wonder whether the 1.5K chengal wood is real stuff or not... cos the ID kept emphasizing that the chengai wood needs 60 yrs of grown then can cut down...

Btw, Christopher... it would be good if u can share with us on your knowledge of outdoor timber... i am still figuring out which is better... chengai or wpc.. and lately i even heard of a new wood called marabu.. there are so many kinds but which is the better ones in terms of the durability under the sun and rain... and also the maintenance level. I read some forum that chengai wood need funishing every few years to restore their "glory"... there are so many grey area and i really don't know which is which. And even so, so i engage other coy who are well specialized in outdoor timber OR i should just let the ID handle everything.... price and quality is really a concern to me....

Hope to hear from you soon.

    Thanks

  6. Hi Guys,

Does anyone here have any knowledge of chengal wood and its pricing range? I went to a couple of IDs and was quoted with a wide price range for a planter size of chengal wood.

The cheapest one quoted me $450 for my planter size. The most expensive one from another ID was quoted at 1.5K for the same size. Some others quoted me 600+ and some 800+.

Is there any differences in the chengal wood given?

I asked the ID who quoted me 1.5K and she said that theirs are the better ones.. they wait for the free to mature 60 yrs then they can chop it off for the wood. She kept emplasizing that $450 for that size is definitely not achievable.

I also asked the rest of the IDs why some quote me 1.5K and they gave me the shocked expression and told me that the price is over quoted. The knowledge they told me is that....there is a minimum size that they will quote for the chengal wood. So for a planter size, they can only quote me the minimum size to be sold. 1 even told me the minimum size is abt $400. Then another amount arnd $300 is meant for the support below the chengal wood.

This is sooooo confusing and i don't know which is which and who is saying the real thing.....

Need the advise of you who knows about this chengal wood.

    Thanks in advance

yes.. have u heard abt WPC wood? is that better? cos i want to have a wood that does not require so much maintenance.

Might comtemplate into getting other coy to do just the planter instead of getting my ID to do it if the pricing is much lower...

  7. Many small firms with turnover less than 500k pa (figure may be changed by now) are not required by law to register for GST. But many do register to claim GST refunds from the govt on their GST payments (i.e. their purchases). Problem is, once a small firm is GST-registered, that firm is required to charge customers GST (i.e. on their sales). Which is then paid to the govt. To avoid paying the govt the GST on sales, GST-reg firms resort to using a non-GST firm to issue invoices to customers. That is a serious offence. You may get into trouble for abetment if that firm is caught.

You hv to decide if it is a risk worth taking.

    Cheers

Hmm... can i say that this will only be an offence if the prospecting part is done by the parent coy, and then to avoid paying gst, we ended up signing from the sister coy? If we are directing dealing with the sister coy right from the start, then this will no longer be an offence?

  8. not only that... warranty after reno is usually 5 yrs... skully this sister coy closes down after ur reno. ur reno will become NO WARRANTY! this is a true story from one of the renotalk peers' t-blogs which i come across last time... so, dun pray pray with sister coy...

ok.. that is another good point leh.... i nv thought of that.... :S

  9. Hi guys...

    need your advice..

I went to this ID and actually i have quite a good chemistry with this ID. However, this coy actually is GST registered. As such, i checked with the ID and ask him whether can he do anything with the GST i.e. waive off. He came back to me and said that his boss actually suggested that my job to be signed up under another sister company which eventually is still not yet GST registered. It a good idea and save me at least 2k plus of GST.... BUT.... what is the catch?? Will there be any other implication that i did not think of???

Hope to hear from you guys.

  11. Hi all, so anyone used F***k?

I just got my quote from him....quote was certainly over my budget. but he seems quite experienced. but the remarks on the quality by image does scare me off... and also, my hubby don't like that beng feel that the ppl there gives... he senses that there is going to be problem in future as you are not just liaising with the ID. it the whole coy as well also. If boss is no good, then i would say that it will probably be a chain all the way down....

  12. Yeap.. so far i checked the web and found no comments on them at all. Maybe no comments = good thing as well. Anyway, i brought my MIL together to view the sofa since she is better in judging the material. So far it passed her and my hubby's quality check... so i am fine with it.... so we got our L shape sofa eventually.

  13. Hi,

You are very smart as u did not pay in full or else you have no leverage on them. It seems that they screwed everyone. In the end i believe they will get their retribution, someone will screw them **** hard. You know what in the end i bought my bedframe from EXPO furniture exhibition and the lady boss told me she knows wee joe very well. He still owns her shop more than 100k..she said wee joe is notorious for such things. Bad reputation really spreads like wild fire.

Thanks ya... somehow i am just lucky....

I am surprised that his shop is still surviving even thou his reputation is that bad....

  14. Hi All,

I am actually looking for fabric sofa right now but at a affordable price.

Basic requirements is purely L shape and the whole case for the sofa must be detachable to wash.

Saw 1 from paragon and impressed but the price is too steep.

Almost gave up until I was at expo today and I saw a couple of booth selling

Fabric sofa which is washable and even customizable.

Anyone tried Wynn furnishing and is their sofa quality ok? I saw their booth at expo today and Promotion price now is like 2.4k.

I also passed by inch design and the sales there keep telling that it not advisable to get sofa with removable cover. As the cover will still strink and eventually very difficult to fit the sofa again. Kinda of skeptical. Anyone have this problem? Even thou the case you choose is machine washable?

Hope to hear some comments as I am thinking of going back to expo to get sofa.

    Thanks all in adv.

  15. When Inch was open on the first day me and my friend drop by looking for sofa and the lady that serve us mention that we look like salesman from the furniture industries(cause we were wearing long sleeve shirt). I told her we are not and we are office worker around that area but she say we do not need to bluff it is ok we tell her where we are from(which furniture company) cause SK does not have office worker and both of us look like salesperson.

I repeat that we are not and I would like to see her boss and "feedback" to her boss about her and you know what she say go ahead no problem at that moment I was like "WTF" why got this kind of sales person and both of us walk out of that dam shop and walk over to IFC that was opposite, later came to know from a friend that was in the furniture industries that the lady that serve us was one of the partner.

Is it the one at sims drive also? I saw the same shop you mentioned at the expo today. Sofa seems ok but now I start to worry. Lucky that I did not get anything from them yet.

  16. Hi Guys,

I happen to saw Mattress Atrium @ City Square this afternoon and surprised that it is still surviving around after my purchase from them 2 years back. So happened that i saw this forum thread still active with so much complains on Mattress Atrium that i could not help creating an account to share my story... hahaha.. of cos it is a bad impression.

Me & my hubby bought the mattress from them around Sept 2008 meant for our an chuang which i roughly remember that it is the last week of dec 2008. That time, the shop was still in Furniture Mall and we were served by Wee Juo as well. As usual, he was with his container story and we bought the mattress (name starts with S.. something like santano) with the frame and requested the delivery to be done 1 week before the an chuang's date. I think we were smart and we only paid a minimum deposit for the whole bed.. which cost abt 2k+. He also promised free gifts like mattress protector and 2 pillows.

So 1 week before the delivery date, my hubby even called the shop again to remind them about the delivery and confirmed again on the date. Thereafter, 1 or 2 days before the delivery date, WJ called and said that there is some issue with the shipment and the mattress is not available and he can only gave me another brand called LOTUS which I had never heard before. He told us that this brand is better than the ones that we pick and more expensive as well. Worst still, the delivery was postponed to the actual day of our an chuan and he keeps apologizing and told me that he will give me another mattress protector for compensation due to the late delivery. Left with no choice, we had to cross our fingers and hope nothing went wrong.

However, on the date of the delivery, as both me and hubby is not around, so my hubby passed the $ to my MIL and told her about the late delivery and also told her not to pay the delivery guy if the delivery is incomplete.

The best part is that, our an chuan is supposed to be at 12pm, and he promised that the delivery will be here at 10am as they will dispatch out their 1st lorry to our place first. 10am and the delivery guy was still not here yet, but they did call and said that they will be late and will definitely reach by 12pm. We will really pissed off with the heart attack that they gave us. It was lucky that the bed came at 11am, plus all the fixing here and there. However, they forgot to bring the free stuffs over and my MIL refused to pay the balance $ and even gave them a stern look thruout the delivery. Hahaha.. guess the delivery guy dun dare to ask for payment as well and decided to let the boss do the job. They left almost really little time for my MIL to lay the bedsheet and all the an chuang stuffs...

Thereafter, i called Wee Juo and insisted that he bring all those free gifts over to my place and collect the balance payment from us, which he eventually did.

Conculsion: I must say that his after sales service and promises are really bad. It was lucky that i did not make a full payment and push him all the way to ensure that i get what i was promised. It left a really bad impression and me & my hubby really do not recommend this shop to you guys. Although i must agree that me & my hubby are very happy with the end product. LOTUS mattress is really good and we got it really cheap at a cause. If you really want to get mattress from them. Remember not to pay them full. Just pay them the minimum amount.
