  1. Everything is good until they installed the door for the entrance.

The door is installed on different day with the pole system due to wrong sizing of door, missing track.

The workers who came to do the door installation did not place any protector on the floor.

We have made a strong highlight to the sales person to be caution with our parquet flooring and she has noted it down in the invoice too.

It looks a simple job but ended up with a floor full of scratches

    5559928073_dd9537a0f9.jpg

Upon knowing that, the sales person notified the management without delay.

The manager visits on-site, investigates the situation and apologies to us. We come to a compromise and settle the issue.

Overall review is still ok with their service recovery. And will consider to return for future purchase.

It is far better than someone who offers no solution or shouts at us.

I can feel your frustration by reading your reno T-blog and congrats! you have resolved amicably!

I feel grateful to you by sharing this to us especially to me cos I a bit blur type. A lot of stuff I never think of but it really happen. Will take note of your tips.

P.S. I will start my reno T-blog after getting my key and choose the ID/Contractor.

    Cheers:) Emobebe

  2. NEXT STAGE: AIRCON & REWIRING

    5461055181_ae8dedbf45.jpg

Time for Aircon trunking! Above pic is view from MBR. On the right used to be storeroom and is converted to WIW. The original door is sealed and new entrance is created.

For aircon installation, sometimes is really up to your luck. The skill of the worker who install plays a big role rather than the brand of aircon you choose.

When we install the aircon unit which is after painting work, there is a gap between the wall and unit for the MBR. The worker came and made it worse, keep insisting it is like that and is because our wall is not straight. In the end, he seeked his manager's help. His manager's attitude is good and well-mannered. After inspecting, he worked on it without delay.

Finally, it is done and is much more acceptable and not as bad as what his worker has done.

As for our electrician work, we did not engage our contractor's electrician due to high pricing.

After we come to this decision, our contractor started giving reasons and examples for using his own electrician, telling us the negatives of engaging outsider.

Of cos we understand the importance of electrician work, thus we ensure that the one we chosen is well qualified and approved.

Overall review of our electrician is GOOD. :yamseng:

They do not push blame around. Any problem, they use their expertise to solve it.

Lights installation is free if lights are bought from them.

Unlimited trip to install your lightings.

    Service excellent.

    Hi,

Can pm me your electrician's contact no?

    Thanks! :) Emobebe

  3. Hi,

You can go to 560-568A Balestier Road. There are four tiles shop over there. You just need to park inside and walk into tiles shop.

    The four tiles shop are

    1) Hafary

    2) Lian Seng Hin

    3) Hup Kiong

    4) Taugres

I went there for survey last two weeks and found out something interesting about the tiles itself. Someone will assist you inside the shop and they will give you a quotation slip and samples of the tiles. Do examine the sample of the tiles and let me know if you notice something different especially homogeneous tile. Most of the tiles are from China. You can request from other countries too but different prices.

If you have contractor or ID, then they will bring you to the tiles shop for selection. I am not sure whether they got a cut for it. Btw, the tiles shop won't give you any discount if you want to buy direct. If you can get any discount, let me know...Thanks!

Hope that my little info can help you!

    Cheers:) Emobebe

  4. Dear All,

I have been looking at all your reviews on Interior Designing for about 6 months to get my self ready for my dream house!! I have fixed a theme, Modern Zen, which will have platforms/storage, wood color as the main focus.

Looking at all the terrible comments of some dishonest ID Firms , i am so afraid that i will land into the wrong hands. But, no choice at least i did my best to try to avoid by doing homework.

So this is the ID firm i have visited so far :

    1) Unimax - Thoxxx

We were fascinated by his promises and his way of him handling his customers. I must say that we have clicked well with him and can see his passion for his work. He was supervising when we enter the booth, as all his other colleagues was busy he attended to us. He was 1 of the few that were wearing a jacket and he seems very professional. The way he relate and talk even to his customer that gave him a call during our discussions. Overall, exprience was very good. Awaiting for his 3-D design and space planning

    2) 3-d Conceptwerke - Victor

Visited twice. 1st to pen down our requirments and the idea on the things we want to have. We gave him an option to knock down one of the walls to be creative. On the second visit, we were so surprise that he came up with 3 floor plan with diff configuration and also some reference pictures on the theme and furniture. He had also sketch a copy of one of the focus area and showed it to us. He too has passion and was delicated to his work.

My exprience with him was very good, and i am in a deliema. Both was so good!

    3) RnR Interior

Young chap, seems not bad. He knows what we want and he knows whats he was saying as well. Able to give concrete and relevant details about our space we had. Overall, not bad,but will need to see the design first

    4)Brick and tungsten (jeriel)

He knows exactly, wat i want or rather a man wants. Home automation, Home theatre, multizone music etc. I have a lot of fun talking to them, he understad my needs very well and we clicked very well. Is like talking to a friend that share the same interest or hobby. Overall, very good too. Would love to work with them. But still need to seer the design and space floor planning

    5) Plush Living

Got a quote from them, must say it was a little high about 40++K, wasn't expecting it. But this guy And*, was professional as well. However, i just find his assitant very quiet, sit there never say or do anything, dun know for wat???? anyway, he too knows wat he is doing but maybe the chemistry not there yet

    6)Euih Design

My sister friend, so far still okie la. But a friend is like quite hard to work with le, so afraid the relationshio with turn sour@

    7) Desginer Guys

Quote was higher too, but i was not given the floorplan, says only i sign then can take the floorplan with me.. Hmm dun like.. although he is very nice too

SO far this is my expriences and i will try to write as much as i can after checking out the rest of the ID Firm in EXPO.. CHIONG ar.. Still have a little bit of time to my planning and searching. Hope i can get a good responsible and creative ID!!

    Hi ugene512,

Welcome to RT! Thanks for your contribution. I guess this info will help all of us.

I am still looking around for the right "one" to do my new place soon. Frankly speaking, talking about expo exhibition I went there last month and I found that a lot of IDs are doing hard sell and quite pushy. So, I have a little bit negative perception about them. Not saying they are all not good or whatever but I guess for them they need to clinch deal and close case else their bosses will give them a black faces....Poor thing! But I can't let my hard earned money goes into drain just because I pity them. No choice though for a consumer like us! Rite?

Anyway, do keep us update about your selection of IDs and also update your reno journey here!!

    Cheers:) Emobebe

  6. Hi Everyone,

Have been hanging around with envy :dribble: in this forum for the last 2 years, finally; it's going to be my turn soon to transform my home.

    Some background details :

The thought of revamping my home came about slightly more than 2 years ago and it was always the thought of between selling my existing place for a new one or to revamp my existing and all these while, these 2 thoughts have been battling with one another deep in my mind (just like the devil & angel :) ) and just about 2 years ago, i made up my mind to set on revamping and then came the good news that my wife's preggie with my princess hence everything came to a abrupt stop.

During my wife's 10 mths pregancy, these 2 thoughts start battling one another again and at the begining, the thought of getting a new place won and I stopped all my preparation e.g. research in renovation ideas etc etc and began concentrating on looking out for a new place.

As time goes by, I soon realised that with the ridiculous property market, I will never be able to get an unit of the same size and location as convenient as current without folking out large amount of COV as well as high valuation price. Although the valuation of our existing had risen handsomely when compared to the price we paid for,the fact of the condition of our place (little reno and lot's of wear and tear), we reckon we will never be able to command a decent COV hence that would meant we would need to come out with hard cash for paying the COV of the other property and that's not to meantioned any additional cash for the reno of the new place.

After some serious discussion between me and my wife after the birth of our princess, we decided to stay put and decision set of revamp and once again, I began my "research" about 6 months ago and set the target to start the revamping process some time after my princess turn 1 year old and as she had just turn 1 year old couple of weeks ago, here I am, actively looking for a short term rental as well as starting to get Contractors & IDs to provide us with quotations.

To start of with, I had engaged a FSM to audit the place as I would like to ensure I'm doing the correct stuff. The FSM audit report is not out yet but due to time constraint, I had invited 5 IDs/Contractors to view my place and provide me with quotes and once the FSM report is out, I will then update them of the changes. 3 of them had came yesterday and this morning and I have another 2 who's coming this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon. I will reveal their company names once I have received their quotes next week.

Below would be my ideal reno schedule :

3rd week of March : Confirmed a short term rental place

4th week of March : Quotes from ID/Contractors received

1st week of April : Audit report from FSM received and notify all ID/Contractors on changes

2nd week of April : Revised quote from ID/Contractors and I start to decide on what can be obtain from "ready-made" furniture stores instead in order to cut reno cost.

3rd week of April : To shortlist and confirm ID/Contractor

4th week of April : Move to short term rental place

1st week of May : Reno Starts!

May & June : Shopping spree on Furniture, Lightings, Home Appliances stuff etc

End June - Begining July : Major reno works completed

1st & 2nd week of July : Inspection & Touch-ups of reno works and arrival of new furniture, home appliances etc

3rd week of July : Mission accomplished and move back to Home Sweet Home.

Note : Would be most grateful for fellow brothers & sisters to comment if my "ideal" schedule is acheveable. :help:

I have yet to take any photos of my place..... 1 reason is because it's too messy to show to general public audience :P

Will upload my floorplan later, just could not figure out how to at this moment. :P

I shall stop here for today and will update again after I received the quotes :)

    Hi sgdstuff,

Nice to see your reno T-Blog here. Was waiting for your FSM audit report. Remember that you wanna update me...LOL...

Anyway, I think I can only start my reno by end of May or early of June. Next week is my first appointment. I am still looking around for suitable ID or contractor to do my place.

I will start my blog after I confirm the selected "one" to do my place. Have a smooth reno journey!!!

  7. the size... :[

Yes, I think it is too big for hdb. I went to Balestier to check out on down lights. This lightings.com.sg really provide a good educative information for me. The salesperson said for normal hdb use is 4". Initially when I was there, I felt quite lost cos first thing I dunno what to ask and second too many different type of down lights in term of sizes, designs and some come with dimmers.. I dun even know what is ballast till that salesperson told me what is that and what is the pros and cons....

Since you already bought it, maybe you wanna sell to those who want to reno condos??? Just a suggestion only...

  8. Hi all,

Do you have any good aircond subcon which can recommend to me? I need to relocate the trunking at the living room and also shift aircond at my mbr.

By the way, what is the market price for the charges?

    Thanks!

    Emobebe

  9. Hi,

I would like to seek the forumers' opinion about hood and hob.

I cook daily and will be using gas cyclinder cos the hdb block does not use citygas. What kind of brand I should look for and what are the things I need to take note.

Btw, I am thinking not to install kitchen sliding glass. What kind of hood should I look for in this case?

    Thanks :) Emobebe

  10. thanks titanax, we like our layout too.

We already have ideas so would probably go along with a contractor to save some cash. IDs i notice can get quite expensive.

    Hi,

Can upload some photos after your reno? I have the same layout as per your floor plan.

    Cheers:) Emobebe

  11. Bought it from Grohe in IMM.

unfortunately no pictures as still in box, unopened.

Can capture the box picture? Or send us any link if the item is on the website?

How much you bought? And how much you are looking at to let go?

  12. Is this the 1st time you're getting a washing machine and dryer?

Whether yes or no , here is my suggestion by asking yourself:

    1. Determine how many time you need laundry in a week

    2. Determine whether you want to hang your laundry outside your house.

    3. Do you want to wash your clothes and same time dry it? This usually for someone who doesn't have time for laundry.

    4. Do you want to save some untility bill??

with some of these, you should narrow down your selection.

Opinion 1: if you hardly use the dryer, then I would advise you either don't buy the dryer or get the combi model. This would save some space and $$$.

Opinion 2: Seperate washer and dryer if you use both very often. in many cases, dryer will consume a lot electrical energy. if you've better budget, then you should choose dryer with 4 green ticks(watchout the price tag). Minimally, I'd choose a 3 green ticks dryer.

    my2cents..

Very informative and a good guideline...I'm still considering whether I should get a dryer....:)

  14. Online Shopping

We bought some items online via gmarket and ebay.. Most are local sellers but one of them (the biggest purchase) is an overseas seller.. Crossing fingers that we'll get our items safe and sound, without any issues..

    Rainshower

    5519127828_9027f83f47.jpg

Costs an average of SGD400 in local shops for a square rain shower.. Saw this on ebay for about SGD250 (after shipping)..

Item description seems to be pretty good quality..

Seller seems to be of good rating.. So we took the chance..

Good news is that the seller is very responsive, we emailed him after purchasing and he was fast to response.. *Cross fingers*

    Living Room Clock

    5519122028_4c4bd9028f.jpg

Johnson says this is perfect for our living room.. We have the same sentiments.. Delivery next week! =D

    Toothpaste Dispenser

    5519122046_dd66b9e467.jpg

The wife found this online and decided to get it for the MBR bathroom..

No more toothpaste lying around and no more "blur" aftermath in the morning to clear..

    Hangers

    5518531741_1104b0cd9e.jpg

Yes, you are right... The wife even researches on hangers.. =p

    Velvet anti-slip super slim hangers..

Got a sample from the seller and did some testing (on jeans with some hard swinging and jerking motions) and it passed..

Bulk ordered with a few of our future neighbours.. =)

    Hi Dizyweds,

May I know have you got your rain shower? How is it? Any problem so far? Btw, which company you bought from Ebay? Thinking to get one of this type of rain shower.

    Cheers:) Emobebe

    Hi Pixie,

    Nice reno!!! Congrats!~~

Btw, how much your veneer door cost per each? Do you need to provide the measurement of the door to the contractor?

Your sliding glass door quoted how much for each and what is the dimension like?

Alan is working for which company? Just curious....

In term of workmanship, how do you rate Alan's team out of ten? 1 - Worst 10 - Best...

    Cheers:) Emobebe

  16. Hi littlemiffy,

I have a pleasant experience with her ( garfield ). Along the way she give us idea what need to be improve for our reno. She also help us to fix up all the stuff we brought at Ikea without us asking. My quote was not the cheaper i got but i felt i spend my money well. I don't know about the guy you mention but i think the whole team from homeworkz was friendly

Maybe you can drop by their showroom. I was also refer by a friend then i just walk in to the showroom and i met her.

    Hi Xiao B,

Can pm me your ID's contact and your quote if you don't mind??

  17. I just thought of one solution for you...

Maybe you should nego for payment stages as in upon completion of certain stages then you pay. This will lower down your risk a bit.

Another possible solution is that you order your own material and ask those suppliers send to site on needed stage. One you can have control over your materials and even if the company close down, you still can hire others to do the jobs according to what you plan earlier on with your materials still there...

Haha...I don't know whether my solution is too naive for this realistic world....:)

  18. This is my opinion only.

Whether the company want to be GST register or not, it is up to them and if their revenue hit certain amount and yet don't want to register, they take their own risk. If they were caught, they have to answer to the authority. In this case, the risk we have to face is that the company stop their operation or closing down. In many cases, we won't know whether their accounts are being falsified or whatever things they do. But as a consumers, I think we got the rights to sue them if they do not honor the contract.

Frankly speaking, the 7% GST is quite high and don't forget every material is inflating now including transport charges based on the oil prices. Imagine that if your total bill is huge and you have to pay GST on top of it, you will suffer unless you are loaded. I believe the parent company thought of this too and that why they setup a sister or brother company for that purpose but they have to make sure they follow the law requirement accordingly. No one want to setup a company and expecting to be closing down very soon. LOL...

I have nothing against GST or non GST registered company. My main concern is to get and ID / Contractor to do the job according to what I want and of course meet my budget. And one more important thing is that less or no hiccups...Still looking around....

***If someone with law background would advise this even better***

  19. Moving on to my MBR.

After shifting out the vanity into the MBR, the usable space become smaller for the MBR. As such, in order for us to use every available space, we got the ID to construct storage space in the bed headboard. I always hate having headboard, it has no function at all just collect dust on the fabric.

    P1070361.jpg

We saw this wonderful pullout headboard design from Ikea. We know Ikea has great design but their furniture won't last long.

    80109421_250.jpg

After getting the ID down to ikea and have a look, he modified the design and gave us pull-out drawers instead of pulling out the whole unit.

    IMG_0238.jpg

    P1070262.jpg

We also changed the initial proposal of a walk-in wardrobe at the vanity area to a divider. This allowed wind and sunlight from the only small window in the room to come into our bedroom.

    P1070360.jpg

Nice cosy home. Wondering how much is the carpentary work for the customized headboard?
