  1. Nope i still need to pay the installation fee of 220 + another 75 (forgot what is it), however, since singtel is having 3 months free subscription (i pay monthly S$80 p/m) , it's waived 80x3 = 240 , so i need to fork out additional S$55 for the installation, better than i have to wait till March or April 2012 with the same price.

If you planning to have one, better sign early coz the installation date for Dec2011 is limited.

Can try emailing both Singtel and opennet to ask them to waive the $220. I'm trying my luck and still waiting for their reply. Beats not trying at all, right? ;)

I managed to get a very early slot and gotten Singtel to waive off all installation and connecting charges so I'm paying $220 at most. I must have appeared very 凶 to them haha

  2. Gotten the LED contact from a follow forumer (is there such a word!?!) and bought 15m worth of LED strip. Going to use 10m of it for cove lights in the living room and remaining 5m for either kitchen cabinet or wardrobe. Haven't decided yet.

    bd673d4d.jpg

It's much much much brighter than in the picture. The lights are set to the dimmest and taken using iPhone HDR. Can't wait to see this in action!

Also gotten a kitchen tap online that will compliment my 70+cm single-bowl sink.

    3a9bab1c.jpg

Love online shopping! No need to brave the weather elements to get it :good:

  3. Dropped by to see the progress of the house and I'm pleased!

Walked in to see that living tiles are mostly up, kitchen floor and wall tiles almost done, toilet wall tiles done! (I forgot to take pictures of the toilets)

    0308a31a.jpg

Window frames are being installed ( :jawdrop: window-man's hair is even longer than mine!)

Cabinet base and the low hollow-block wall. Not so keen to use a non-waterproof board so close to water-intensive places.

    d50807f1.jpg

And a nice gesture. We noticed ants crawling in from the refuse chute and notified Wee Kuang and when we came, we saw this:

    2dad42ab.jpg

At least no more ants crawling in

  4. Got to adjust my expectations on the speed of the reno.. Looking at so many t-blogs and their speed gave me the impression that it should be speedy :dunno: SO I just make it a point not to go daily to check on the progress. At least I'd be amazed at the changes between visits.

    Some updates!

Went to Jalan Besar to get the essentials for the toilets and kitchen sink. Walked down almost the whole stretch of Jalan Besar only to be pointed back to Genova for their home-brand kitchen sink. Wanted to get a huge single-bowl sink that is deep enough for baking wares.

Bought all from Genova during their clearance sales last week

The famous Arino Caprio WC at 40% off (oddly, I didn't take a picture of it)

MBR toilet sink at 50% off

    9e937d01.jpg

    Common toilet sink

    fb080b6e.jpg

Tap for both at 30% off

    50403c2b.jpg

Aluminum mirror cabinet to hide my barang barang

    7e46e0db.jpg

Would have worked out to cost us $3200 instead of $2000+ if not for the sale!

  5. Went down to see the progress after a long day of work only to find out that there's a different padlock on the gate and no one's there at 5pm. Propped the wooden door open to peek in and realised subtle changes since yesterday. :furious: Wasted trip.

  6. My lastest deliberation: adding cove lights. Thinking of adding cove lights to only 1 side as I love the atmosphere cove lights give but I can't stand the dust. Which side works better? The length above the tv or the opposite side?

  7. Citygas heater during the roadshow in TPY

    Photo23-10-1161152PM.png

also bought the rainshower set they carried during the roadshow. Figured that if Citygas carried it for their gas heaters roadshow, then it will work with them, right?

    photo4.jpg

Also gotten Mitsubishi Heavy Industries system 4 air-con for about $3500. 3x9000btu + 1x18000btu fancoils. Worth it?

  8. Already bought many things even before the renovation started. I'm a classic example of what you call a "kan-cheong spider".

EF hood and hob from Gain City Expo sale

    Photo23-10-1153852PM.png

    Photo23-10-1153310PM.png

Samsung washer/dryer from Gain City Expo sale

    Photo23-10-1155859PM.png

    Ariston oven from Mayer

    Photo22-10-11112012PM.png

KDK ceiling fan (think I bought too big a fan :dunno: )

    Photo23-10-1154339PM.png

  9. Kudos to Wee Kuang and his undying patience to such a fickle person like me. Think I've changed my mind many times over since we signed the contract for the reno (and he must hate renotalk cuz its the source of my fickle-mindedness)

    Day 3 - Hacking

Majority of the things are out except for air-con trunking, some electrical trunking in kitchen and living and the windows.

    Photo3-11-1155622PM.jpg

    Photo3-11-1155629PM.jpg

    Photo3-11-1155856PM.jpg

And the puny toilet which looks even smaller when everything is out of the way :( notice that the opening to the toilet is huge

    Photo3-11-1155917PM.jpg

And on my way back, I saw the foam that will be used to raise my dining area to the same height as the living

  10. proceeded down to starhub @ causewaypoint to sign up for the fibre hubbing plan and requested for the relocation of termination point. apparently the CSO who served me said that i have to approach opennet myself for the relocation as they don't provide such service as to liase with opennet and etc. so frustrating!! :curse: :curse: any members here got experience on this? please help!

Initially wanted to sign up with Starhub for their fibre but when HB called, they said we had to liaise with Opennet to do the installation. My house didn't come with the termination point 'cuz the seller ignored all the letters from Opennet. Called Opennet and their "earliest" appointment is in March 2012! The Starhub representative's attitude was rather bad over the phone so HB told them straight that we'd get Singtel instead.

Went to Singtel and they managed to expedite the whole Opennet process. Have to sign plan first then Singtel will help you book an appointment with Opennet. Now Opennet will come and install the termination point end November (have to pay $220 for the installation though)

  11. The challenge: -

    i) Hob, kitchen sink, washing machine layout

ii) my spouse chinese zodiac Fan Tai Sui 犯太岁 = cannot involve in reno

So I one-man-show bao ka liao :jawdrop:

Jia you! My man wasn't very involved in the planning/designing stage so I can empathise with u.

As always, renotalk will be there for u :yamseng:

  12. Hacking started on 1 Nov and today Wee Kuang received a phone call from HDB about neighbours complaining about the noise. :dunno: Any suggestions to pacify them?

Hopefully that won't affect the pace of the reno. Targeted hand-over by Wee Kuang to be 24 Dec but my own target is 15 Dec. I don't want to be at home packing on X'mas!

  13. Went to choose tiles some time ago. The background is the marble tiles in my parent's house (my current home). No enuff $$$ for marble in my new home.

    31072910150351016321889.jpg

The words on the masking tape over the grey tile is very very misleading. What balcony?

    Stuffs from the storeroom

    39356910150349847351889.jpg

Look closely at the picture and you'd spot a sink, w.c. cover, toilet seat, storage water heater and ........ an entire set of car seat for 5 people.

The seller left a whole lot of junk for us to clear 8|

  15. Been a long time since I've updated. Didn't even realise how long I was gone till I had to spend 5 minutes to search for my t-blog. Anyhows, I'm back (while it lasts). Lots have happened since the last update.

    Went for second appointment.

Gotten my keys but reno to start 3 months later.

Decided against a contractor and selected WaWe Design for my ID.

    Bought many things.

Deliberated over the floor plan for many days, many hours, many ways.

Finally decided and paid deposit to secure my $39k reno. Hacking to start tomorrow.

    Now for pictures :D

  16. :(

it says 6/14/2011 1:53:47 AM Firefox Denied: http://h1.ripway.com/zorae/toilet_tiles.JPG (analysis using the database of suspicious URLs) http://h1.ripway.com/zorae/toilet_tiles.JPG URL found in the database . prolly something wrong with their servers big time then, in the meantime you could always use one of the others, imageshack works great for this forum i find.

Should be better now? Changed all links to imageshack.

More tedious than creating the posts

  17. welcome to tblog zorae, you need to upload your photos on a photo hosting website like http://photobucket.com/, http://imageshack.us/, http://www.flickr.com/ etc and not load them directly from your computer cos we wont be able to view them.

that has caused all of them to pop up as malicious objects on my kaspersky :o

    Thanks for the welcome :D

I'm using ripway actually, since I already had an account. But I think there's something wrong with their server 'cuz it took quite some time for them to load even on my computer :dunno:

  18. Welcome to RT! Good luck on your 1st appt :yamseng:

    Didn't go too well

We're applying for the flat and grants under fiance/fiancee scheme and didn't know that we had to produce 'evidence' that we're planning to get married. Got to move our ROM date from Nov to Sept so that I had something to give them.

  19. Living, bedroom floor tiles

    livingtiles.jpg

    Kitchen wall tiles

    kitchentiles.jpg

    Kitchen floor tiles

    kitchenfloortiles.jpg

    Toilet floor tiles

    bathtiles.jpg

Kitchen floor and toilet floor tiles are the same. Not gonna keep the tiles as they are the rough and easy-to-trap-dirt type of tiles. Just look at the toilet tiles :o

Walls for the whole house is done the rock-wall style. :bangwall: added costs to plaster over them

  20. MBR toilet

    toiletmbr.jpg

    Common toilet

    toiletcommon.jpg

The toilets are really small. Initially wanted to place a shower screen in my future toilets but not possible liao. The pipes are in the way and will make the shower space really small.

  21. MBR (from the door)

    mbrtv.jpg

    mbrdresser.jpg

Bedroom 2 (the one beside the MBR)

    bedroom2r.jpg

    Bedroom 3

    bedroom3i.jpg

    Doors

    doorzl.jpg

Gonna change the whole orientation of the MBR because the toilet door cannot face the bed. The toilet door has been moved closer to the windows by the sellers but now got to shift the door back to the original place. Room door will be moved to the other side of the wall.

Bedrooms 2 and 3 appears to be used as storage from what I see. The doors of all bedrooms and store room have this chinese-style carvings. Very ex according to the contractor but it'd go. (yucks)

  22. Updates!

I went to the flat with a contractor for accurate measurements and to take pictures. Decided against getting an ID as it'd be the same as what I've seen here :D Besides, the contractor we're engaging is an old-time friend/neighbour.

I forgot to take pictures of the living room, partly because there's someone who kept glaring at me while carrying a cute baby from the living room. No idea who that was but it was definitely not one of the sellers. Tenant maybe?

    Kitchen (from the living room)

    kitchenview1.jpg

    Kitchen (from the utility room)

    kitchenview2.jpg

There are 3 sinks in the kitchen and 1 more in the adjoining toilet. Total of 4 sinks within a 3m2 area :jawdrop:

Funny that the sellers use the bamboo sticks and the utility room for drying clothes.... how many clothes do they have??
