  1. Sorry to hear about your plight. If you have your "agreement" in the sms or phone conversation, this can be used as evidence. A verbal agreement is as good as a written one. Smses are even better. Hope this helps

Got my flat key last year 20th november, hired a "good friend" to help to do up my 3 room flat. Sign a contract of 27k including kitchen cabinets. (exclude 2 feature wall, 4ft & another is 8ft. a casement wardrobe of 6ft and electrical fee. And I ask my so call "good friend" to quote the carpentry prices and he say need to measure and quote but did not quote out any price at all and he started doing up all the carpentry work and I keep on questioning him on the actual price for the carpentry work as I am afraid it will be over my budget of max 35k and he did not even write out a quotation or contract for me to sign and only say it will be "friend's price". Finished the hse reno end of March and he requested for payment of 30k as I was taking bank reno loan so i just hand him the cheque and I requested him to give me a FINAL quotation for the remaining work. And in August 2011 he billed me $56K and on top of the 30k that i already given him I still got to fork out cash 26k.

I did not even sign any contract other than the 27K and when I ask him for a quote first he keep saying the carpenter will measure n calculate (what rubbish is this?) n if he had quoted me a price on the carpentry I would have stop him in doing as its too expensive. And his company call me to say if i am not going to pay up they are going to small claim??? Anybody got experience in handling this? This is my first time reno a flat and thinking that i can trust a friend to do for me and who knows???

  3. If you don't mind me asking - how much was the cost of the electrical work?

As for the arrogant ID - at least just give the name of the company - so that reno members can be careful. They don't have any right to curse customers.

I went around asking quotation from the so called big companies - but most marked up their price sky-high because of branding. The free gifts are all shams - I did a rough calculation, we actually pay for all these "free gifts" if we were to agree on engaging them. I had the impression these big companies can offer better deal - but ...

Some fellow forumers asked me what my electrician did for my house...

  4. It's very simple and the effect is good.

Yup - good feeling - because renovation works has finally started but there's anxiety at the same time. There are many uncertainties and things we didn't plan to do or change need to be changed. Sigh ...

Thx for sharing on Picasa - the photo editing sofware to create montage. Looks nice and quite user-friendly.

Your demolition progress looks good. It's a good feeling to see this, right?

  5. Wow - 47K is a steal for jumbo flats. The last time I went round looking for one (just a few months back), COV was ridiculously hover between 60-100K. Congrats!

finally found a place my family likes at Marsiling area... the new house sits nicely on a hilltop and i like the scenery and the fresh air every morning... to be kiasu abit, i actually returned to the place after the first viewing to scout the place... thrice in the morning, thrice in the afternoon and twice in the night... went every floor to see if got ah long problem... talked to the old folks at the void deck about the surroundings and the security of the place...

final verdict... nice place, good security and quiet surroundings... best of all, friendly neighbours...

told my agent i am interested in the place... lucky not sold off yet... seller wanted $65k and the agent claimed that the last offer was $55k... i was like sh*t... my agent told me to try la... i offered $45k initially... but was rejected... i told the seller my final offer is $47k and that's it... the two agents had a long conversation with the seller... and the seller relented... paid $1k immediately... signed all documents and eagerly waited for the deal to close...

  6. Looking forward to your postings and lots and lots of pics Jaschar83 yamseng.gif

    HI everyone,

I have joined Renotalk for a few months ever since we have been house hunting.. Despite the very high HDB prices, we sold our 4-room and bought a 5-room flat next to my parents in law's place.

From rags to riches is my story of how we bought our first HDB home with no money in the bank and as little as $2000 in CPF to having reaped some profit to finally be able to do up a nice home of our own.. after 5 years..

My hope for this reno blog is also to honor my very hardworking ID Jimmy who really put in a lot of effort and gave his 200%.. He truly deserves a chance for your next home.. (scout's honor!)
