  1. A quick update for the upcoming weekend. TV Console We decided to save some money on our TV console and reuse our existing one instead. It's a little worn and tired but we think we can still squeeze a few more years from it. Good thing that our previous ID kept it modular and not attached to the wall. It even fits into the current decor. One thing that I really did not like was the size of the TV. Our old TV went kaput on us a while ago and we replaced it with a 50" Panasonic Plasma (thinking that bigger is better right?). BUT it seems to suck the life out of the living room like a gaping black hole when it is off. We almost never turn on the TV whenever we have guests as it is a real conversation killer. I believe that there is a limit to how large a TV can be and 50" is a little large IMO. The Living Room that is making me totally lazy and late for work these days.... Night mode Coffee table from the junk store.
  2. Hi sfk7. Your blog inspired me to start mine. Love your attention to detail for your place. I even tried contacting hairpinlegs.com, but the guy was not too keen to send the legs to SG. Anyway, I got the lights from a site called Nostraforma in Germany. Ordered a few things, not sure if the cost is cheaper, but they ship to SG for a flat fee of 99 euros, so good for large orders. Really love what you did to your place too.
  3. Nice pic, especially with a white frame against a white wall. Awesome kitchen as well. I've got a soft spot for Newgate Clocks from the UK, but they are extremely cautious about people copying their clocks. Having said that, they look really good though.
  4. No lah... these things happen and since it's fixable, it's all good. Thanks! Will update more in the days to follow.
  5. Hi, we have 4 halogen downlights from Lightcraft. Can't really remember the price, should be about $15-$20 per pop but I might be wrong. The kitchen gets quite hot if you're cooking with the door closed. I swapped them for 3W LEDs from eBay at S$9.87 which made a whole lot of difference, only thing is that they sometimes flicker when dimmed. LEDs generate heat behind the lightsource whilst halogens generate heat in front. Hey thanks! You can check out Apartment Therapy for a different point of view.
  6. Thanks sleek, am enjoying it and eagerly waiting to see how yours turns out. Nice nickname... I got it from a shop with a signage called "We buy and sell antiques. Some fools buy and some fools sell." Can't remember the name of it though. At Tanjong Pagar.
  7. A quick update. All pictures shown so far were from the beginning of our renovation till about 3 weeks ago, just before we moved in. Things are still a major mess and I'll put up the pics of the furnished place as soon as I can. Most of the stuff are from IKEA and we're hoping that the furnishings make the difference. Here's a pic of the side table that I got from Forar. Has a pre-loved feel about it and we love it.
  8. Haha, thanks. Found some use for the IKEA HEMNES mirror/light + RIBBA frame Thanks adidaem! I'm following your t-blog very closely as well and, likewise, can't wait to see the end result. The electrician broke the switch at the bottom of one of the lights and covered it up... got quite angry until I found a way to attach it back... doesn't work like it used to but good thing is that we have another main switch to control that.
  9. Yes they are. I think it's pretty common these days... so common that we were short of a few pieces and had a hard time locating them. I'll ask my ID when I next meet her.
  10. The kitchen. As we both cook (sometimes at the same time), I opted for a Galley layout instead of the 'U' shaped layout which is better suited for a single cook. It also allows us to put a mirror at the end of the walkway, effectively doubling the perceived length of the space. Only problem is that we take a longer time running between the tap, fridge and cooker now. Ah well, you can't win em all! The toilets Masterbedroom toilet. Generic hotel styled, sand tiles bathroom. Nothing noteworthy but very comfy to be in. Common toilet. Love how this turned out!
  11. Can't remember the name but it's beside the coffee joint -The Plain. Nice place for treasure hunting....
  12. A wider shot with my poster from MAGMA books. We also purchased an Artemide Surf Mini for floodlights (general lighting). Again, it's a 150W halogen... hard to keep to our green theme.... The Artemide Melampo Parete bedside lamps which allow you to tilt the angles. Chose this over the more popular Tolomeo series. Incidentally, Lightcraft has a replica of these lamps. Realised that the electrician busted one of my Artemides! Should have installed them myself.... good thing it was still 98% repairable.
  13. Lighting updates (again)... We wanted to see how each light affected every item, so we moved some pieces around and just tried out some configurations. This is the Living Room light test. I'm using 50W halogens for the spots, which tend to get a bit bright. However, 50W x 4 = 200W!! I've put a dimmer to the bulbs but I've heard that dimming halogen lights does not affect the energy used. Can somebody help me clarify this? I've also swapped it for 3W LEDs, but the spots tend to flicker when dimmed. bummer.... Also tried a comparison with a 100W incandescent bulb vs a 18W energy saving bulb for the pendant lamps. The incandescent lights (left bulb) gave more tones whilst the energy savers (right) had a very even distribution.... choices.... with the 2 lamps on incandescent, it's like 200W of consumption... vs 36W... was a no brainer decision. Sample of how the light falls on furniture. The piece in question is one that I bought from a junk store along Neil road.
  14. Hi ugene, Your blog is looking good! Would like to check if you found any Singapore distributors of the RedEye? I saw something similar at one of the mac shops... Unity Universal Remote. http://www.gear4.com/showcase-unity/ but it was WAY overpriced. Are you planning to buy locally or online? Thanks!
  15. Some updates on the toilets... I sort of chickened out for the master bedroom toilet and went for a more traditional full tiled look instead of the more quirky style at the common bathroom. We wanted a hotel like style for the master bath and decided to remove the bathtub and replaced it with a shower instead.
  16. Apologies for my scattered style of blogging as I write whatever comes to mind.... more fun this way
  17. Once again, another purchase for my caffeine fix. I'm not a big fan of Nespresso, but on my recent trip to London, I chanced upon a newly launched model, the Pixie. A tiny little Nespresso machine at only GBP139! That's like SGD$280... way lower than the price in Singapore... Also, the capsules in the Knightsbridge store cost only $0.60, while it's $0.90 here. Can't say that it's the best espresso, but if I'm pressed for time, it gives the best taste to time taken ratio.
  18. Home theatre system Had the electrician run the speaker cables in the wall. A bit tedious but I'd rather keep my speakers on the low profile. Got some the Mission m-cube from Alpha Audio Not super audiophile, but good enough for my layman ears to enjoy my music. Hooked up to a Marantz NR1501 as well.
  19. Oh, due to budget constraints, we've decided to reuse our old dining table from my previous place which was (and still is) pretty well built. Only problem is that it's a little banged up. We are planning to sand it down and restore it but still considering.
  20. Hi velv, I'm not sure about the contact. My main con handled this with the iron mongers. If it helps, it's a scalloped glass and it's quite common as I've seen it at some places.
  21. Hey! Thanks for recommending Forar! We visited Les and spent an hour talking about furniture. Finally found our entryway table. Fantastic place with a chilled out atmosphere. Love it!
  22. Lights are up!!! A sneak peek of our PH 5s. Love the tone and the way the light falls on the surface.
  23. Here are some other things that I purchased. REVO Heritage Internet Radio Love the design of this little radio. It has a Dieter Rams kind of feel to it but packs a whole lot of tech. Brushed aluminium body with american walnut sides. Internet Radio, LAST.FM, DAB / DAB+ radio, Media Streamer, iPod connectivity and USB player all rolled into one. Only thing it doesn't have is Airplay and it doesn't do the dishes. Found it on sale at Challenger for $599 but managed to find it at John Lewis in the UK for GBP 229... Very high markup for the local distributor.
